An NPC...that can RUN

Featured Replies

Instead of the normal npc (monster) that pursues you by walking behind you...there should be an NPC that actually RUNS after you!

Just imagine, a bunch of shadow wraiths running after you in a multi combat zone, wielding scythes, and all of them are attacking you while you run for your life. If you turn on your volume, they could make screams that could send chills down your spine. *Morytania area hint hint* Or maybe a hellhound that actually charges after you, and maybe could run even faster than you!

Sounds pretty darn cool to me. :)

The area that an npc can wander around could be enormously increased so that the NPC could run after a player for a good amount of time. Right now they'll only follow you for a screen's length or two. If a monster was truly aggressive, it would pursue you for a very long time, perhaps even to the death.

They could run at different speeds, perhaps slightly faster than a player's walk pace, the same pace as a player can run, or even much faster than the player can run to be inescapable.

This could entirely change the dynamics and mood of an entire area. It would make the game feel a little more realistic, while also providing a new and exciting challenge to questers or adventurers.

Think of a monster that could really benefit from running...

Anyone else agree with me?

No, that would be stupid. If you can't escape a monster, players that are just exploring the world would get followed by monsters that are way more than they could chew, and the monster could sprint after them for decades. Other people would lure monsters into public places and log out, leaving the monster to wreak havoc amongst citys. Imagine baiting a greater down from the wild into lumbridge? some noobs would be unable to respawn. Other problems would be out of place monsters, and there'd be agro monsters on main roads, attacking innocents that stuck to the given path. Terrible idea with the follow issue. As for faster movement, some monsters do appear to move faster, but keeping up with run would defeat the general purpose of run.

Increase their roaming area, I never said anything about completely taking it away! They could just have a larger area for the monster to roam in.

Anywho, perhaps it would force you to take damage to run? Instead of running, you might have to fight instead. It may be a better option to kill the monster rather than run and have it keep hitting you. Or, if you are confident enough, run until it stops following you...although it could be a bit. :)

The thing is, this would have to be used creatively. But I believe it could be used.

EDIT: It would require a little more thinking, and a little more tactic. If an npc could run, it would add a degree of complexity to the situation...you'd have to adapt...have to change. Although I know change is something a lot of runescapers can't handle very well.... :?

Larger map areas, huh? so you mean completely redoing the runescape map and enhancing the entire world of Geilinor

You should send your idea to Jagex, I'm sure they'd love it...

He said to make the wander zones bigger, not to make the map bigger. There is a difference.

He didn't say that all NPCs would be able to run. He essentially said that NPCs would have varying speeds.

And following you FOR A SCREEN OR TO, i like the idea, makes combat more exiting... but, mosters with half the level of you-1 will not chase you.

I think it would be a great idea. Make monsters a little bit more challenging and add just the tiniest bit of skill into the game.

And to the person complaining, here's a solution: Don't go there.

I agree with you bubsa =) Why complaining when its voluntary to go there, and even play the gam =/

kill3r_c0w.png

I agree, now for example when a unicorn 'runs' away from you, you can just walk after it at the same speed, surely a unicorn should be able to run faster then a human's walking speed.

I support the idea.

Some monsters, in some proper area, should act a little more realistic. Not the dark wizard near varrok (though its not so realistic that they will enter the city), but other things - let them act similar to the leeches in the haunted woods.

Furthermore, and even more crucial: jugex, city guards must cease being a mare decoration. It will be good if they will start *working together* if a player attacks them or the citizens around. Be a bit more realistic - if someone murders citizens or other guards in their sight-range, they need to storm him. Let the "brave" player who enjoy attacking 2lv women deal with 7-10 lv21 guards. Add even few archers from above, and it will be even more fun :-).

An as a rule - make monsters a *bit* more inteligent.

L.Bellatrix.png

Slayer: 85/85, Herblore: 82/82, Farming 81/82, def 99/99.

new goals: full sardomain costum from t.trails (2/6), slayer 87/90, attack 98/99

Dragon drops: 4 half shields, 2 dragon spears | whip drops: 5.

barrow drops: Ahrim's hood

not bad idea, however, for example, if i would "bring" a strong monster to area's like lumbrige: bleeding newbs! .

if they would pursue you to death...

just make a limit where they wont go further like most NPC's.

then its a nice idea.

trough the thought of sending a monster to varrock killing every low lv... IS SO.... EVIL...AND I LIKE IT!!

Now this is a great idea. Make it like Morrowind - mess with one, get the whole group kicking your tail.

i dont like the idea of a NPC that can run, cause for one, like Evanboy said, they would follow you into cities and stuff, besides, isnt the point of running so you can get palces faster, but mos use it for getting past monsters to the lower level ones, so if they could run after you, then youd be stuffed no matter where you go

Finally retired from RS. It's been a good 4 or 5 years.

It's a good point about the running monsters sneaking into areas where new players were. However, I was under the impression that such monsters would be isolated, IE. in a dungeon or something. That's why I supported it.

To Bellatrix: Back in the early RSC days, guards actually did serve a purpose like that :P If anyone tried to PK around the city, the guards would break up the fighting. I would like to see, though, guards working together, much like the jail guards at Prince Ali's prison do.

i definetly like this idea, it would kind of make npcs a lil bit dangerous again, more simular to the 3 hit system in classic where people (even experinced players) could die to npc's. I support this idea and im glad you have thought through it a lil bit to say possible speeds etc.

He did say that NPCs could only run inside of their areas, so monsters running into cities would be highly unlikely. I think this is a good idea. Monsters are a bit downgraded, and this reminds me of old combat system (sorta).

I always wished the teleother spells could be used on npcs. Imagine the havoc one KBD could do.

Giving the running ability to a few npcs is a great idea.

Aha. Yes, this would be interesting. It would add some excitement into the game. Of course, in Lumbridge that probably wouldn't happen since they're all new there. Now if you just take a few steps away, the NPC will stop attacking you, but imagine running from something that's running after you. Haha, cool.

I oppose this idea simply because I like it the way it is. If you are about to die, and are trying to run away, you don't want the npc running after you for a whole minute.

Lmao that would be awesome

A monster chasing after you would be pretty kool but explorers of lower levels would be killed easily..

I support the idea.

all right this whole idea is just plain crazy! as for bellatrix's idea allright your probably a higher lvl well imagine when you just started and were training on men and women in the town how would you like a bunch of lvl 21 +s comin after you and being able to run in about 5 seconds youd be dead. as for roamin monsters there wouldnt be any more high lvls other than those allready here because the noobs would all be constantly killed and not able to train. all in short this is the stupidist idea i have ever heard! ever!!! :x
