SGS, Armadyl Battlestaff?

So I completed my subjugation set. I now have every tier-70 defense set. I am curious if Armadyl Battlestaff is really THAT much better than using Polypore Staff as a general use staff. I have a SGS but is it worth it too keep? Will the price rise much more? Or should I de-grade to BGS/AGS to be able to get Arma Staff? All opinions greatly appreciated.

Thanks

You already asked in two different threads if you should keep or sell your SGS. You should read the replies there, rather than creating a whole new pretext to ask the same question.

I bought Armadyl Battlestaff and can say it works for general slaying very well. Even recently buffed monsters, like steel dragons, are quite easy to kill. Not to mention you get free standard air spells.

However, this staff is essentially worthless against level 170+ monsters, since you splash (including abilities) half the time with 99 magic and magic-type armor (the increased 2h damage is not worth it over faster casts using wand + akhn). You can test this on the level 170 Double Agent. Where you would splash at most 1/20 on 144 level steel dragons, you will splash ~50-55% on that level 170 non-boss monster.

Go ahead and read those threads. They did not answer my question and the first had the wrong title which would not attract the correct information. So would you please mind your own business? Also, what is wrong with trying to ask questions and get a little life back into this site? It is nothing like it used to be, but you wouldn't know that. So please get off of this thread if you are not going to attempt to help out the OP. This applies to all threads in this section; If you aren't going to help, get out.

First off. Good luck getting help when you respond like an ass. As someone who likes to help on this forum your continual spam is rather annoying.

Ot: it's pretty obvious in the current state of the game that an sgs isn't worth it when a bgs does the same for significantly less cost.

L2useyourhead instead of thinking that spamming a forum is a good idea. Oh and you can change the title of posts to fix your "wrong title won't get the right people" crap.

Ok then, comparison time!

Bandos - Lowers your opponent's defence if their own level is above a certain threshold (Around 1 level reduction on most beasties)

Passive effect activation chance: 25%

Price tag: 2,770,138

Zamorak - Stuns / Binds your target, much like an Ice Barrage

Passive effect activation chance: 25%

Price tag: 3,929,295

Armadyl - Raises your Attack and Strength levels both by 1 level each time the effect hits, up to a maximum, stackable boost of 10% on your actual level. (Level 60 Attack / 70 Strength person would get the max boost at 66 Attack / 77 Strength. Not sure if the stack rounds up or down, as in, level 99 max stack could be 9 or 10)

Passive effect activation chance: 25%

Price tag: 7,439,712

Saradomin - Chance to restore some of your lifepoints and a low chance of restoring some of your Prayer points.

Passive effect activation chance: 25%

Price tag: 29,581,638

Let's assume all GE market values are correct.

We can discard the ZGS special for it is of 0 use.

We can discard the AGS special for any self-loving player uses potions.

Now, for the SGS special to be worth it, you'd either have to be facing an enduring boss, in which scenario the BGS would arguably be better, for it'd lower the boss' Defence, making him easier to hit, on average, or you'd have to be facing an extremely low Defence monster and have a luck roll beyond belief.

Assuming a Slayer scenario, there is nothing that causes enough damage to justify this whatsoever.

The SGS spec is a little added bonus, something of a niche, and is not something you should drop 30m for.

Now, factor in Shield abilities (You can use a 2h and swap in a shield when you have a full adrenaline bar to use Rejuvenate, for instance, or even swap in for Resonance, if you see a special attack coming, even though this is less practical since you have an ability cooldown upon switching gear) and even Regenerate, which doesn't need one, and you have a cute scenario, where you simply don't have the need for a recovery special.

If you still, however, insist on a health-recovering passive effect, I'm happy to indicate you a Vine Whip / EEE combo, good for Slashing with Momentum activated. Of course, this is less than ideal compared to actively using abilities, but to each his own.

-------

Now, as for the Armadyl Battlestaff, it is arguably better than the SoL - I personally note a difference while randomly Slaying / Bossing. I, however, choose not to dish out 19m for a 2 level improve, and stick with the SoL until I muster up 200k dg tokens to buy a weapon 3 levels above the ABS' one. With the premiss of lvl 90 weapons coming sooner rather than later, I'd hold back on getting an ABS just now.

Of course, should DG not be an option for whatever reason, you can consider the staff as a good replacement, and as a definite improvement over a SoL.

And in the midst of all this, let's not forget JaGeX is still actively tweaking monsters' defenses and what not, and with hinting towards Skill levels and DW becoming less of a drag and more of a benefit ([qfc]198-199-34-64200271[/qfc], page 105 @Mod Dean's post), I'd say that a lvl 75 300k Staff > lvl 77 19m Staff. For now. Or otherwise, lvl 70 Wand + Orb/Book (The arguable DW for Magic) > lvl 77 Staff, who knows what changes will come.

And for the love of god. If you create a thread asking if you should sell your pets and summoning pouches to fund DG leeching, I'll personally find you. And slap you.

With all the love in the world,

Guado.

Everybody stay on topic and answer the question (thank you Guado :)). If you feel a topic is redundant, report it. If you feel someone is being an idiot, report it. Replies to flaming or spam are not acceptable under any circumstances.
