Jagex can sleep on their 2 ears? Their macro's do Jagex's work.

It is something which I read in an interview with the J-mods who make the anti botting macros. I and I feel like Jagex mods who ban people with macros shouldn't be sleeping at all.

I got banned in september 2012 for macroing.

I have a well protected computer (fire wall, anti virus...) so I never get hacked and I never bot, if I want to bot I would be the same bored as without runescape.

So after 5 posts on the forum on my noob account (which all get laughed away by forum mods) I started writing e-mails.

After 4 months 1 mail finally got read and Mod Gunner released my account (I play 8 years nowand used to be almost famous )

In the mean time ports came out and EOC.

Messed up my combat level, so I trained prayer and summoning, my 2 lowest skills.

Friday I logged in and first screen I get is macro detected, you are permanently banned.

I think sigh, again?

So I appeal, log in on my noob sjefdemuis, tell Samche (my only old friend online at that time) hey, I am banned again.

5 seconds later:macro detected you are permanently banned...sigh, back to tip it and e-mail writing.

I still want to get the message out to my runescape friends.

I make a new account, it goes to the tutorial island...the game asks what my accounts name should be ...and ...you guessed it, even before I can type in a name...macro detected you have been permanently banned...

Stop sleeping or go to sleep for everyou darned Jagex incompetent programmers and even more incompetence in how they bring it into the game without a small scale test first...

Probably gonna take 4 months again to get my account back and yes, I never bot, cheat nor scam.

  • 2 weeks later...

So after another 12 days, I got "all" of my accounts back.

(My noob account was also banned.)

A small apology and yes, lost 12 days of membership.

Sleep on sleep on.

At least this time they gave the information of my account to the "bot watch team".

And they promised me to not ban me again.

As stated above: I never BOT, nor CHEAT nor SCAM.

If you are a frenchy penguin or have smelly paws or you are just Kaur, and you are sure that it will never happen to you, than you will have to thank me for it.

After my ban they will update the macro for banning, so that they will not ban innocent people/accounts again.

I never bot, cheat nor scam.

That's what they all say but what's the point? The truth will come out sooner or later.

I'd rather give people the benefit of the doubt since "Jagex" DOES make a lot of mistakes and most people who bot don't go make pointless threads about it if they get banned. Of course if you were talking to someone ingame and asked what happened to their account they would probably swear they were innocent no matter what, but seriously? Automatically taking the side of an automated process? Lol.

I wonder what the legal implications would be for them to ask for your computer specs (including all programs installed) and then banned those that have known bot stuff.

Curious on the legal implications for the following situations:

  • Disguise it as something else, like asking for specs to see how the average user will run HTML5 content. Force users to submit data to play the game.
  • Disguise it as something else, like asking for specs to see how the average user will run HTML5 content. Make it an optional poll. (Give xp lamp as incentive to do it anyway?) Pay more attention to those that don't submit.
  • Straight up tell players why it's being done, force users to submit data to play the game.
  • Straight up tell players why it's being done, make it optional (Give xp lamp as incentive to do it anyway?) Pay more attention to those that don't submit.

In any case it's bound to catch a bunch of the more dim witted botters, which not only removes them, but gives a great lump of information on typical bot patterns and improves their bot detection via pattern recognition.

I can see a lot of angry people if they do that. Just having software that would let you bot does not mean you do bot (and yes, I realize it's unlikely). That would be like arresting people for arson because they own a lighter...well, maybe it's not quite that bad but my point is ownership of something that can be used illegally is not proof of a crime.

Besides, what's to stop them from using the information about what's on your computer to report any other suspicious stuff they find? Do all of you torrent users out there want Jagex reporting you to the local authorities?

Just because people don't submit doesn't mean that they're botting. Personally, I probably wouldn't let them scan my computer just on general principals. What I have on my computer is no business of theirs just as long as I don't use it in a way that is against the rules of the game.

1. There is no acceptable way to detect 0day OR private bots.

2. You can in no way disguise a full HDD scan.

It only comes to mind because steam scanned my computer recently and I saw all my programs run down the list as it scanned. I think it might have only checked the desktop and a few folders but it got pretty much every program I use on the list.

This has never happened in other games or programs that scan your hard drive, despite the paranoia of the internet.

@ Silly scan idea

- Shared computers; I don't care that they bot but I'm not stupid enough to be scared of using the same computer.

- Botters who only bot certain accounts - of course some people view that any form of botting should mean all your accounts should be banned. Some people like to try botting on a pure for example to see what they're like and to make a specific type of account. I really don't care about botting that isn't goldfarming.

I've created "dg pures" before for the sake of lower level monster spawns (back when gds were slow) and maxed Tui over a long period of time. I would be happier if I had spent less time on leveling my accounts and more on furthering life goals or the enjoyable aspects of the game. Dungeoneering for example really requires a maxed account for doing the best speeds and getting the most out of the game. Maybe had I had more time I would've written better guides and covered more things :P

So I see the hate on botting from a "I love this game as a competitive grindfest" viewpoint and why people would hate goldfarming bots but hating all botters seems rather close-minded.

As I said many times before Jagex won their lawsuit against Ibot: "just because it hasn't happened yet doesn't mean it won't".

Shared computers - Fair point.

If you bot on one account then Jagex have every right to ban all of your accounts. You broke their rules playing their game, it means nothing in which way you did it.

I personally don't care about bots - I just hate all the discussion and focus on them. I hate the politics of jagex pretending to care but not actually doing anything because obviously money is money.

I'd prefer if jagex just muted people for using the word "bot" so that it wouldn't be the topic of 90% of all conversations.

I used all the e-mail addresses which I could find.

legal, accounthelp, phishing... and so on, as I said, you just have to be persistent and keep trying.

I estimate 1 mail out of 100 gets read.

In my case Mod Gunner was the only 1 to reply me, so in the end Ijust say:

Hello Mod Gunner...in the hope he does a search or someone gets his attention.

Jagex is a big company, so addressing the highest level people does NOT help at all.

Scanning the computer is pointless because you could just run RuneScape in a virtual machine or remote viewer and let the bot control the mouse etc from a different computer.

I wouldn't have thought it'd be that clear cut. Surely you'd need either user permission to search or the e-equivalent of a search warrant to do this. Illegal search otherwise?
