slimysteve
Have you heard about the movie called Mr. and Mrs. Smith? I'm sure you have. This is an illustrated book written for six year olds about a couple called Mr. and Mrs. Smith who were secretly spies - and kept it from themselves. The similar aspects between the book which was published in 1997 and the movie is remarkable - and even goes into small things like an automated spinkler system that goes off when they are running through it. The author never gave permisson for it to be made into a movie. The more interesting thing is that the author of the book, Gavin Bishop, is now going to try take on FOX and sue over copywrite :o Wonder what are the chances of him winning  I say goodluck to him. ____
I'd say he's got a good case. Whether or not he's got the money to keep the matter in court is another issue :-?
Necromagus
This should be in the music and movies board, but yeah, Fox should pay, if only for putting such a rubbish movie out there. Mercifull
Lol this is one case where i really do hope he gets a payout :D Then again "smith" is the generic family name, without reading the book i cant really see how close it is to the movie. Vape
Maybe one of the authors read the book to their child, but wasn't really concentrating and forgot that they'd read it, then when they go to write a movie, the script was influenced by their subconscious? ;) Where the bloody hell are you? Bpob
It's all over the press here in NZ. Seems weird that he'd decide to sue them now, but despite it being such big news, only a couple of lawyers have come forward, willing to take the case. Wonder why :P. Supposedly, the plots of both are very similar, but in the kids book the two are spies, not assassins, for obvious reasons. Things like the phonecalls that they would make, the sprinkler system, how Mrs Smith always had dinner ready at 7 etc etc.

Mr_Putter
http://imdb.com/title/tt0033922/ Here's a movie from 1941 called Mr. and Mrs. Smith. I don't think they were spies but...Why, they should sue too! and TV show of 1996 of the same name. http://imdb.com/title/tt0115277/ This ones about 2 spies that play a married couple... Why, they should sue too!Other than the title, it's got bugger all to do with either. He has a point, though. There are movies of the same name and the same concept and it could be (I don't know for sure, obviously) just a coincedence in this case. I think the guy should contest, as the film itself was just tripe. I doubt he'll beat The Empire of Fox, however :( This is how much you all raised for charity. Thank you. weezcake
Now if it was Mr. and Mrs. Klusterswitzen, then I'd understand, but Smith is such a common last name. I don't think he has a case, and I bet he's going to lose. ==================================Retired tip.it moderator.Teaching and inspiring. slimysteve
He might not even get there because of the costs of lawyers ect. and taking on something as huge as Fox. Still, if i was him i'd feel a touch of pride knowing that his book might of been made into a good movie.
