RS is like a gateway drug... know what im saying? :| *cough*Get WoW*cough* The Enrichment Center reminds you that the weighted companion cube will never threaten to stab you and, in fact, cannot speak. Anesthesia
WoW. Simply because it isn't run by Sony. Some people are changed by being a moderator. I wouldn't be.

The_Sith
World of Warcraft. I've tried both and strongly disliked the Star Wars one (wow). My friend has done the same and is of the same opinion. World of Warcraft is an excellent game. If you decide to start playing it, you won't be disappointed. 5.5 million subscribers should be big enough for you. :D Also, I think World of Warcraft has the opportunity to be popular for a long time. SW:G, I think, is losing customers to WoW and other MMORPGs. Plus with the release of the first WoW expansion pack (Burning Crusade), there will always be more content for you. They release patches with new content once every two months or so, and have very good customer service. I say you can't go wrong with WoW.
Phil
I've been thinking about getting WoW for a while now but I'm not too sure. Maybe people on here could help answer this. I usually like and stick to mmorpgs when they are new or reasonably new (runescape, GW, etc) and then gradually lose interest over time, but when I try a mmorpg that has been out for a while I just don't get into them at all. Perhaps it's the community/other player's attitudes (which seems to fall apart when a mmorpg has been out for a while) My question would be, would it be easy to get into WoW even though it's been out for a fair amount of time? For the record, I have tried out SWG and I wasn't too impressed with it.

Perhaps it's the community/other player's attitudes (which seems to fall apart when a mmorpg has been out for a while) My question would be, would it be easy to get into WoW even though it's been out for a fair amount of time? For the record, I have tried out SWG and I wasn't too impressed with it. I think so, yes. I got it around April of 2005 - and it was released in late, late 2004. The general time progression when playing is getting to level 60, doing end-game raids to get items, PVP'ing, and more. However, after people have tried out a class for a certain amount of time or have completed all the "end-game" stuff that they want to, they reroll a new character. So you don't necessarily spend all your time on one character - but you do if it is your first one. Sometimes it is the wrong class or even the wrong faction (a lot of people reroll to try Horde if they were Alliance, or vice versa). It's a bit hard to explain overall though. When a new server opens up, a lot of people decide to reroll on the brand new hardware and start anew. Totally new people start out at as well. I've rerolled three or four times (and have two level 60s) and have always noticed new people playing, especially to this day. You may look into rolling on a new server for this reason. Everyone is starting out again. Or maybe you prefer to roll on an established server, one with a lot of level 60s who have been doing end-game stuff for awhile. Either way, you'll encounter people who have mastered the game. However, the game is organized in such a way that in either situation, you won't be overwhelmed or feeling like you are "left behind." There is a LOT to learn but you can get the hang of the basics fairly quickly. WoW is different than many other MMORPGs I've tried. Don't think of it as RuneScape. A friend of mine went in after playing a big skill-based MMORPG, got to level eight in the game (takes less than a day), and just went around mining. BORING! He quit in less than two days. You really have to come at this thing not with RuneScape or any other MMORPG in your head. A friend of mine who visits here rolled on Warcraft and learned the hard way that you can't take on three monsters the same level as you at the same time. ;) She loved the game and got used to it, but she did mention how different it was. Anyways, that's my advice. If you get it, Phil, go at it like you haven't played a MMORPG before. You can't judge it based on what RuneScape or SW:G is. ScarletEve
Before I played Rs, I played Diablo. After I played Rs, I played Diablo. It's established....the game's been around forever, with patches, so there are updates. It's chat isn't filtered. I get a customer service response in less than 5 mins, no matter how stupid the question. You can trade on eBay for -just about- anything you need without pursecution. You can have 8 chars on 1 acct. You can pk or mf (other things to do, but those two are my fave). You can play in your OWN passworded room or with other people. (Antisocial mood helper right there.) Once you spend the 40 bucks to buy the battlechest, you never pay to play again. If you live for hiscores, you can play ladder and compete for lvl 99. You can fine tune your char into just about anything you want it to be, 7 char classes to start and tons of skills. Diablo II LOD...everyone says it's a game of the past, but to be honest: It's a quality game. It's not too hard, not too easy...and it's got over 10 million accts worldwide. (If you do decide to play, US East server is the most commonly used.) I even played it on dialup. I tried WoW at a local gaming shop, just didn't really care for it; The original Warcraft and Warcraft II on PS were awesome...the online WoW does it no justice. Tried Everquest before, that was just too complicated (I play online, I don't live online...those people have their own lil world...literally.) SWG...ugh...don't get me started. Anyway :P
krunkthemonk
I've just kicked the habit(Wow). As they say, the game begins when you reach 60. The specs for WOW arn't that crazy high compared to a game like Oblivion. I find the people generally nicer in WOW and are usually willing to help, unlike Runescape. If you've got a friend that has Warcraft ask them if they have their 10-day free trial. It's more than enough to get the feel of the game. I'd gladly help you out but I won't be playing till the Expanion comes out this summer. The problem with the gene pool is that there's no lifeguard. Nadril
*cough* WoW sucks *cough* *cough* agreed 100%*cough* However, SWG sucks even more now that sony screwed the game over. It's not ridculously easy to play..... I wouldn't go with either game because both, in my opinion, are realy... bad games. WoW's PvP, for example, is nothing but a bunch of ganking in a 'battlegrounds'. There is no risk, if you die you basicly respawn and head back there. To me, the bigest part that makes an MMO good is the risk involved in it. If you feel 100% safe all the time in the game it realy isn't that great. Granted, lineage II (the mmo I play) isn't the most risky game, but you have chance of dropping items, and if you go red [means you killed someone, karma] than you have an amazing chance to go red. Plus, with the castle sieges and clan wars... :). EVE Online is another choice. In my opinion it was a greatly made game. Infact, I would have played it, but none of my friends would have been able to join me. Plus, the fact that to get one of my skills would have taken a week's worth of time turned me a bit off, I didn't realy feel like I was going anywhere in the game. However, the economy in it was amazing. Anyways, my opinion? Right now a lot of MMO's realy aren't that great. As of right now I am sticking with Lineage II, because it's , in my opinion, one of the best MMO's [next to Ultima online however] on the market right now. I play on private servers, but its still a great game. However, it's very PvP based, so if you don't like to pvp, and generaly like to hide and just fight 'lil mobs, l2 isn't the game for you. :)
Zerocool11
WoW. Simply because it isn't run by Sony. Totally agree with this. I used to play a game by SOE (Sony Online Entertainment) called PlanetSide. Good game and everything but Sony managed to mess it up further down the road. I'd go with WoW. It got good reviews and Blizzard > Sony.
