Superstitions and Placebos!

Inspired by Kryptic's thread on mystic robes helping the catch rate of Sharks (I believe a study is pending ), I got to wondering what other "odd things" people do through superstition or the placebo effect..

Personally, I always clear the Barrows chest room of all monsters before opening the chest - I very much doubt that this helps (other than increasing my kill count) but hey, it keeps me happy

More strange still, is that when using the healing effect of Guthan's I always like my character to be facing south  I'm absolutely positive this is me thinking I heal better that way and therefore noticing it more, but since it doesn't take too much effort I'll stick at it...

Anyway, that's my soul bared... Anyone else? Or should I be getting help?

Sometimes when fighting the lvl 360s in fight caves... if I am hitting like 5 zeros in a row I will like move 1 space and then attack again. It makes no sense really but I always think of it as a superstition to like reset or something so I don't hit 0s.

Lets see...

If I meet the old guy at barrows on the current hill I chat til I get a book

If I keep the drop of anything I bury the bones as well

I keep every quest item that has a sequel that I can

and like a gazillion more things but nothing that has absolutely no connection to the task at hand.

The funniest one I find is the 'bugged attack/defence levels' it's funny how people believe 96 attack is better than 99 attack. When really it's just that the difference between 96 and 99 is so huge in terms of experience that when compared to the real affects (which are barely noticible) it doesn't seem worth it.

Don't ruin my delusions!!! WAAAAAA!!!!

I'm just kidding. That's an interesting one. I feel it's their way of making themselves feel better for not wanting to work up to 99 attack.

Wow, lots of stuff there and some that I do without thinking about it as well - distance from entrance to barrows chest is a good one, also tasks from Chaeldar [sp?]

Can't believe that I_Mahatma_I hits zeroes anywhere lol, but I'll have to try that move a square thing...

Anyways, I always think Abyssal Demons stopped dropping whips since 31 December 2005, and then I conclude it's true !

I have quite a few that I've collected over the years... I think only one is actually one that I use though...

1) Back to back whip specials NEVER hit good on both. I actually use this one cause I ALWAYS hit like... 19 then 0, or 7 then 21, or 10 then 31. I NEVER hit two good ones in a row, so I do one special, usually hit like 20+, then use normal attack, then special again and usually do 20+.

2) Logging out and back in will increase your odds of getting a good drop. Some people think that with each login, you're given a certain drop table for each monster, like 10,000 drops are automatically chosen for you. According to them, if you're getting like herbs and gp 20 kills in a row on fire giants, log out and back in. Then you should get better drops... makes no sense to me but whatever.

3) The less you teleport during a clue, the better the reward. I've heard this one tons and it's never been proven or even given creditable support. Jagex themselves disclaimed this awhile ago as well.

4) 12 kills at barrows will get you better rewards. I've tried this one and I STILL went 83 rounds without getting anything good. But there for like 40 rounds I got my first two barrows items in months.

5) Having a Crumbling Tomb (book telling the tale of the six barrows brothers) with you while doing barrows gets you better rewards. Again, never been proven or given creditable evidence to support it.

6) Continuously clicking the tree you're chopping will get you logs faster. On the contrary, this just gave me delay lag and didn't really get me logs any faster than before.

I got tons....

1. Also when hitting zeros. I run over 2 spots making the NPC move. ((Thinking he had better hit position and I need to move him to nuetral ground))

2. Collect and bury all bones from barrow monsters. (thinking this will help my chest)

3. ((Something I do at barrows at the chest)) so superstitious, I can't even tell you.

4. When I log in and I am wearing a ROW. I take off ROW. Log out. Log in. Put back on. Log out, log in. -- I did this once before I went to Iron dragons and got dlegs ((Done this sense when I am goin to good drop NPC ((Now I am getting looney))

5. When ranging FG's I bury 1 bbone per FG. I burried 1 BBone and got Dmed... man I keep gettin more looney each drop.

I got tons more... but I can only post 5 at a time... another superstion. :)

When I do Barrows, I clear out the chest room, open the chest, kill the last brother if I havent met him in the tunnels yet, then do spin, spin, joy jump, wave, yes, yes, rasberry, yes, yes, scared emotes, then search the chest. Still no barrows items

Maybe i should joy jump after I rasberry?

Look, if your mom still drops you off at school, you ain't gangsta, pull up your damn pants!

i got few also :P

1. when barrowing, i check that i DONT have ring of wealth on me. i think it brings bad luck on chest (best item torag plate, prove im right is when i had it no items, i took it off 3 tiems in 2 opening... well 2 x bows and a staff who cares :D )

2. i allways get 17 kill count at barrows, and its working i get usually 80 bloods per chest opening, record is 132

3. im trying to kill allways only skeles, rats or bloodworms in barrows if possible. its brings me luck.

4. wearing ring of wealth does decrease rate of getting rare stuff! it helps only getting bigger amounts of coins and such. all my dragon drops -- no wealth on me. try it :!: :D

Let's see...

1. If I take more than five swings at a coal rock, the rock is broken. Start over, click again.

2. If I start fishing really slowly, I back up, hit the "spin" emote, and come back down. When the fish see me turn my back, they race to shore, and then I'm firing a harpoon into their neck.

3. If I'm beginning to REALLY like farming, I've been doing it too long.

4. Never, ever let your special bar get to 100% when doing combat. That's just wasteful.

5. Don't leave home without an antipoison. Ever.
