Zippi08
This Tuesday, my school in Sweden had something called "Operations Dagsverket". This is a day when every student that goes to high school looks for a job, and works for a few hours to earn about $30. In the end this money is turned in, and it is chosen to be donated to an organization helping the poor. This year the money collected is going to go to building schools in Rwanda. Last year students in Stockholm (the capital city) collected more than 6 million SEK (which is about $830000), and the year before that, about just as much. I think this is a really good way for students to get some working experience as well as help others. Does your school have a day like this? Or anything similar to this? If not, you should suggest this to your school principle or something, cause I think this is a brilliant way of helping yourself as well as others :D Thanks for the sig, Runesmithie :)RIP Steve Irwin
Adam007
Sounds like a great idea, I'd love to suggest it at my school if I knew of anything like it in the US.
Bmw
So thousands of students are looking for a job on the same day? Ouch. I really dont understand how that could possibly work, though apparently it did  We don't have anything like that, but the closest thing I can think of is with our school sponsoring 2 African children/year, raising money to support them with school, clothes, etc. Great idea though, I'm all for helping out children in need of education across the world. Since Sweden obviously doesn't have illegal Mexicans, I guess all the students hang outside Home Depot until some guys who need help with there roofing come along. ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâï(̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâú_o)/̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâï

Up until all the elitist middle class credit card-toting kids in my school started making fun of immigrants and blaming them for their lazy selves not being able to get a job I didn't understand that page, but now it really hits home for me. On topic, my school does about nil, because of the very "rich" demographic of kids who don't care. That aside, I've donated somewhere in the area of $60 to various relief funds myself. handed me TWO tissues to clear up. I was like "i'm going to need a few more paper towels than that luv"
Zippi08
Sounds like a great idea, I'd love to suggest it at my school if I knew of anything like it in the US. Well, you could always be the first to suggest it even though other schools don't have it ^_^ So thousands of students are looking for a job on the same day? Ouch. I really dont understand how that could possibly work, though apparently it did  Yeah, well you have to start looking for a job before the day itself. And most shops, restaurants and other companies know about this day, so it's probably not so difficult to find one. On topic, my school does about nil, because of the very "rich" demographic of kids who don't care. That aside, I've donated somewhere in the area of $60 to various relief funds myself. Yeah, donating yourself is really good, but this "Operations dagsverket" is something for everyone, which makes it more fun, and you're more motivated, and you help others along the way. timmay929
Our school has something similar, but not that much alike. I think they call it Co-Op and it's where seniors who have an elective can go work for half the day and keep their money. So for example if no one understands this simple concept, if you have woodshop, you can leave school early and help someone build a house, and you get paid for it. 122 Combat : 99 Hits : 99 Attack : 99 Strength97/99 Defence : 99 Fletching : 99 Woodcutting

weezcake
Sounds like a great idea. If my whole school earned $30.. we'd be able to donate $75,000. ==================================Retired tip.it moderator.Teaching and inspiring.
