okay now you probably know the theory on global warming

heres a quote from wikipedia

Global warming refers to the increase in the average temperature of the Earth's atmosphere and oceans in recent decades.

The average global surface atmospheric temperature rose 0.6 ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâñ 0.2 ̢̮â¬Å¡ÃâðCelsius (1.1 ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâñ 0.4 ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâð Fahrenheit) over the twentieth century, and the scientific opinion on climate change has concluded that it is likely "most of the warming observed over the last 50 years is attributable to human activities" [1]. The increased volumes of carbon dioxide (CO2) and other greenhouse gases (GHGs) released by the burning of fossil fuels, land clearing and agriculture, and other human activities, are the primary sources of the human-induced component of warming.

Observational studies and climate models indicate that the climate sensitivity to doubled CO2 is in the range 1.5-4.5 ̢̮â¬Å¡ÃâðC (2.7-8.1 ̢̮â¬Å¡ÃâðF); models referenced by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) predict that global temperatures may increase by between 1.4 and 5.8 ̢̮â¬Å¡ÃâðC (2.5 to 10.5 ̢̮â¬Å¡ÃâðF) between 1990 and 2100. The range of uncertainty results from both the difficulty of predicting the volume of future greenhouse gas emissions and the uncertainty about the climate sensitivity.

what are your thoughts on this? because i say that it is just a theory and a false one at that.

my mum works for these geologists who also disagree with the theory, my dad knows a politician who also disagreed and finally my parents were talking to a woman who says that the ice caps havent been this small for 350 years. where were all the exaust pipes and technology back then?

the geoglogists i talked of say that the earth always has large changes in temperature, it has highs and lows that last for long periods of time, currently we are on a rise but there is nothing to panic about because it will drop again eventually. - my two cents about global warming being just a theory

i finally quit runescape to play world of warcraft. i play on frostmourne, alliance

It is primarily the rate of change of global temperatures which is of prime concern to the global scientific community dealing with climate change. Certainly there are swings in global temperature as a function of fluctuations in the orbit of the Earth around the sun and more frequent swings due to any number of other climactic mechanisms. However it is a point of debate as to whether increases at the rate we are seeing now can truly be ascribed to natural factors alone.

There is still some debate on the matter although in recent years belief in global warming has become more widespread in the scientific community.

As regards the 350 years question, human industry has been emitting CO2 for much longer than the last century. However the volume of CO2 has been increasing. The effects of CO2 emission throughout the later centuries of the first millenium were probably counteracted, partially at least, by the Little Ice Age. However, in recent years (particularly since the industrial revolution circa 1870) CO2 emission has risen exponetially with an according (although arguably not related) rise in average global temperatures.

Regarding your sources, it is important to ask whether the people you speak to or whose opinions you listen to have any source of bias or any authority on the issue. For example, politics does not always hold the environment as its first priority and politicians are notorious for selecting only the evidence which supports their desired reality than taking an objective viewpoint of the situation. Likewise with your geologists, do they work for oil companies or someone else with a vested interest in denying global warming or are they looking at the whole thing from an entirely independent perspective?

Maybe global warming isn't entirely due to CO2 emissions, in fact it almost certainly isn't, however, most people agree that a higher global average temperature would have more negative consequences than positive ones. Therefore even if CO2 has only a marginal impact on global temperatures it might be a good idea to cut it out to ameliorate the problem if not solve it.

Obviously this entire subject is extremely contentious and viewpoints are likely to differ widely. I am no expert on the situation.

Global Warming is pretty obvious around here in Minnesota - We haven't had a cold winter for around 9 years now.

I tell ya' one thing though, it's going to be a hard problem to fix. I read somewhere else that when planes were grounded on 9/11, the 3 days (or whatever) they were grounded for, it was unusually hot and the skies were clearer. Imagine 20 years from now if we're using something besides oil (ha!) and we find out it's too late, that we now NEED oil to be burned so WE don't burn.

Ohhh the irony! What will destory Earth? Wrath of God? Astroid? Nuclear Winter? No, no...It was the bones of dinosaurs, burned to fuel vehicles! Dinosaur's Revenge 2040!

Just curious, because I don't know a lot about the subject - but how did we get past the Ice Age without global warming?

For people who dont believe there's global warming, you're an idiot...

You have this closed room, put heat in it and it gets hotter. More, and more, and ever more and it gets hot as hell. Thats gonna be the earth someday, if the Capitalism of USA does something about it :?

The sea dissolves most of the carbon dioxide. Like the fellow said, the earth has under-gone ups and downs in temperature before and this is currently a high.

Global Warming is for goody-two-shoes who want to make themselves feel better by trying to save the planet which doesnt need saving =; .

And no lol why do you always want to get stuff from John Lewis. Its over ̣̉300 more then than what i paid.

John Lewis is a great, great shop.

Scare tactic by AC fanboys who just want you to think it's getting hotter so you invest in air conditioning stocks.

This is the way the world ends. Look at this [bleep]ing shit we're in man. Not with a bang, but with a whimper. And with a whimper, I'm splitting, Jack.

Theres a reason why they put that part in quotes, because its an opinion.

Climate changes such as global warming may be due to changes in the sun rather than to the release of greenhouse gases on Earth.

Climatologists and astronomers speaking at the American Association for the Advancement of Science meeting in Philadelphia say the present warming may be unusual - but a mini ice age could soon follow.

The sun provides all the energy that drives our climate, but it is not the constant star it might seem.

Careful studies over the last 20 years show that its overall brightness and energy output increases slightly as sunspot activity rises to the peak of its 11-year cycle.

And individual cycles can be more or less active.

The sun is currently at its most active for 300 years.

That, say scientists in Philadelphia, could be a more significant cause of global warming than the emissions of greenhouse gases that are most often blamed.

The researchers point out that much of the half-a-degree rise in global temperature over the last 120 years occurred before 1940 - earlier than the biggest rise in greenhouse gas emissions.

No one can tell you what to think, so I don't really understand the point of this topic.

Scare tactic by AC fanboys who just want you to think it's getting hotter so you invest in air conditioning stocks.

That dosn't make any sense. Do you even know how an air-conditioner works? It dosn't 'create' cold...

I don't know enough about climate change to make an informed decision. Fortunately these people seem to:

http://www.ipcc.ch/ - Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change

It produced a thousand page document on the evidence for and against climate change in 2001... it's probably the greatest collaboration by scientists across the globe ever... and it has continued to produce reports since then. I am lead to believe that respected scientists all expect irreversible climate change to occur in the next 20-30 years, due to man.

However, it's become a political issue, and since politicians are answerable to lay-people, the issue won't be officially recognised until it is too late. Of course, it is the poor countries that will be affected the most. A case of the selfishness of man!

For it is the greyness of dusk that reigns.

obviously we need to stop getting rid of all the pirates, to get the temperatures cooler again.

/sorry for putting this in everyone of the global warming topics, but its obligatory.

I gave a speech in an English class once about why everyone should become pirates. I used that graph as a reference. :P

All I know is that there's less of harsh winter up here so I guess it can't be too bad. Though there's a lot of concern about the glaciers melting too fast.

That's because it's an El Nino year! What a good warm winter it was! :P

HAHAH this is * funny seeing people trying to decline global warming, you need to get your brains checked, your theory is pathetic.

Whats your theory then?

Carbon Dioxide DOES disolve into the ocean. It was in our Triple science paper (Even higher tier) and Ive heard it mentioned before.

Taken from a website 'Of all the carbon dioxide (CO2) emitted into the atmosphere, one quarter is taken up by land plants, another quarter by the oceans. '

Before you start yelling 'LOLZ th3stz bS%!1' Try googling it you idiot.

And yes, I do know the theory. Judging by your spelling and poor punctuation im guessing you've just reached pubity.

And no lol why do you always want to get stuff from John Lewis. Its over ̣̉300 more then than what i paid.

Antrune is correct, the ocean does eat up a lot of Carbon dioxide. How? I guess the sea vegetation eats it up? How the hell should I know? I'm not a scientist. I just read it.

But that doesn't mean it "disolves" ALL of it. Global Warming is an obviously real problem. Anyone who denies it even exsists is incredibley blind....That or an oil tycoon...Either way.

Like I mentioned, I can remember here in Minnesota when it was easily getting to -20 degree's in the winter...For the last 5 years at LEAST, I don't think it has even dropped below zero. Just this past winter I think the best we got was like 20 or 30 degrees. It's still cold as hell, but it's nothing like it was. :P I almost miss it, because with extreme cold comes more snow...And snow rules. I remember digging tunnels in the snow on our boulevard pushed up by snow plows...I had a vast network of tunnels leading from my driveway to the end of the block - No really, I did. I haven't been able to do that for years though, and trust me, I'm 19 and I would still do it if I could. Tunneling the snow is teh AWESOMEZ! But alas, it is just getting too warm, and the snow is scarce. Our local mountain (skiing and stuff) opened a month late because of lack of snow last year, and the snow wasn't even high enough to get to the tops of the starting gates for races, so you couldn't use them. Yes, they do make snow, but you try making 10 feet of snow on a whole mountain...That isn't easy.

I think it dissolves the CO2 because gases are more soluble at lower tempuratures, and the ocean can't be that hot (nvr been there, just thinking that with such a large volume of water it would take an immense amount of energy to get it warmish)

But whatever steps we take to fix this problem it will take a long time to fix it.

Even the top notch supporters of the global warming crisis don't support the idea that global warming is noticably affecting temperatures like you claim. Temperatures like that fluctuate very often, especially around the time of El Nino. I love El Nino. :P
