the wonderful world of...anime

^ I watched the subbed anime and a bit of dubbed on [AS], so thats all I can really comment on. (subbed sounds better).

If you watched the dubbed first, you'd probably say it's better than the subbed :P .

[subbed's better].

That happened to me with Bleach. I generally prefer dubbed, and it's mainly the only thing I find on TV anyway. Online, however, is mainly subbed. If I missed an episode of Bleach (I follow the Adult Swim episode lineup), I usually watch the subbed version online, and it annoys me. Just got to get used to it I guess. :wall:

I wish I knew Japanese. With sub or dub, you can never really be sure what you're reading/hearing is what the writer intended. I notice with Bleach, between the sub and the dub, or even between 2 separate subs, the content can change dramatically. In fact, in Naruto, the meaning of some things seems to be completely changed. Luckily I found what I believe is a pretty good translation set of Bleachs/Narutos that seems to pretty much say what they are saying whether it makes sense to our culture/language or not.

I should learn Japanese.

Trust me, if you're only doing it to avoid subs, if you can't put your heart and soul into it, if you don't have enough free time and drive, don't. Learning a language is hard, learning it on your own is harder.

I mean, you'll pick of little things (especially interjections, i.e. "bakana", "urusai!", "baka", "hai!", "gomen", etc.) when watching and listening to subs somewhat intently, but attempting learning the language itself is something that happens a great deal among fans, and to be honest, almost never gets accomplished. But, if you are going to try, go ahead, just make sure to put your heart into it, and make sure as hell not to become a weeaboo. Make damn sure of that.

I picked out the word "noob" in the Rurouni Kenshin theme song: Heart of sword. (Really I heard it in there)

Weaboo? I think I may have an idea of what you're talking about, but can you please explain?

sleep like dead men

wake up like dead men

A negative term directed to anyone overly obsessed with Japanese culture to the point where they become annoying.Used frequently on the image boards of 4chan.

Most weaboos are uneducated about their obsession of choice and are often noobs who are overly zealous, trying to impress others with their otaku knowledge. Another trait of a weaboo is their desire to "be Japanese".

While the two terms are often fused together, weaboos are very different from anime fans or enthusiasts. A fan may be just as enthusiastic and knowlegable

about Japanese culture, mainly anime, but they neither boast about their knowledge nor call themselves otaku(because of its known negative connatation).

While searching that I can across:

1. otaku

...

Otaku is extremely negative in meaning as it is used to refer to someone who stays at home all the time and doesn't have a life (no social life, no love life, etc)

Usually an otaku person has nothing better to do with their life so they pass the time by watching anime, playing videogames, surfing the internet

weaboo: Chronic Japanophile. Their life revolves around worshipping anything and everything that has even a slight relationship with Japan. It is their dream to go to Japan and live there watching ridiculous amounts of anime and doing nowt else. If you say anything negative about Japan or anything coming from Japan they will go in a hissy fit and cry. They cant speak Japanese but insist that they can because they pick up about 3 words having watched their favourite series about 50 times through.

Thought so... I was thinking more along the lines of people who think they're ultimate Naruto guru's just because they know the japanese term for Shadow Clone Jutsu. They hurt my soul.

I'll probably get into it then, considering your recommendations and that of my friend who's an anime freak.

For some reason I have a hard time getting into animes with endings (just like Death Note :(). I'm used to the ongoing ones, like Bleach. The endings make me sad, like that it's the end of a great experience. It's hard.

Oh well. I probably sound stupid, anyway. :|

[hide=Death Note Spoiler >_<]I feel like I want L to die now just listening to his dubbed voice, and when I watched the subbed I almost stopped watching after his death...[/hide]

Daammmnnn L's dubbed voice sucks. This kind of terrible dubbing is going to go down in the hall of fame, right next to Naruto. Honestly, what the hell were they thinking when they picked this guy? He completely and utterly kills anything and everything L!

Heh, I'm watching it on adult swim right now, about 2/3 the way through the anime. I think I've seen only fifteen to twenty episodes of it though, 'cause the episodes after the beginning kind of bored me and didn't drive me to stay up later to watch 'em :-w . Ah well, I feel like I missed out a bit on the story, but not once when watching any episode have I felt like I was missing something. Guess I just saw the episodes vital to the plot or something :P .

It's a good anime from what I've seen. And that opening song, "Colors of the Heart" by Uverworld (a band familiar to Bleach fans), has got me hooked. The opening is amazing, and the song just makes it perfect :) .

I'll be honest you didn't miss much in the beginning. Really the show picks off at around EP20 or something like that, right around when Saya (sp?) actually gets a pair and kills stuff without moaning about it. There are some awesome fight scenes in the anime, especially in the last episode(s).

It's good stuff  . Also, I too enjoy the intro music to it -- didn't know who it was by though 'til now.

^My bad Nadril. Add hide tags for those currently watching DN. What I said might... uh, ruin it a bit for some.

Ugh...This filler-type arch in Bleach is really irritating. When will it end?

Ugh...This filler-type arch in Bleach is really irritating. When will it end?

Which one? If you're talking about the filler arc right after they rescue Rukia then you can go ahead and skip straight to Episode 110. 64-109 is one massive filler arc.

The filler after that is kind of scattered. The most recent episode ended a three-episode one, so it's back on the manga story. For a time, anyway.

(By the way, three episodes has got to be some kind of filler record. And the last one contained some real material too.)

its filler in the sense that its not derived from the manga, and doesnt advance the plot much in the long term.. but nonetheless it is a 45 episode arc, and thus you are missing a MASSIVE chunk of the series if you skip it. which is why i'm soldiering on through it atm.. currently at episode 86.

^ Both Bleach and Naruto have major fillers in them. That's why I only read the manga now.

Hello friend, Senajitkaushik was epic, Good luck bro.

^ Both Bleach and Naruto have major fillers in them. That's why I only read the manga now.

a) I don't get why everyone has something against the Bleach fillers. They were pretty good if you ask me, even if they did divert from the main story (and if that's what it takes to get some people dead, thank god for it).

B) Do you like the manga better, or did you just want to get to the storyline faster? I mean, yes, it's behind (as it should be), but they're finally in Hueco Mundo and getin' some action :P . Personally, I'd love for most of it to be a surprise while watching the anime, but that's just me.
