Thoughts and CC on my unfinished Tianenmen Square Vector...

Featured Replies

As title says, im currently making a Tianenmen Square Vector.

Its the first vector that ive ever made and so i wanted it to be a powerful one, and i figured what better way than to use one of the more powerful photographs of all time.

I dont feel as though i need to explain the photograph (even if you dont know what happened in china in 1989 to cause the event it's still a very powerful picture)

and the BEGINING of my vector (only had a bit of spare time for now)

a bit of progress -

I will post updates as i continue with the image, although i dont suspect that it will be complete for a good fortnight.

As always thoughs, ideas, advice about vectoring and CC are always very welcome.

Please steer away from political opinions (if any) and remember not too be too harsh on me as this is my first vector (never tryed to do anything even remotely close to a vector before)

good, i think its great that that event is being acknowledged, i wasnt born when it happened, and i havent seen much footage, but it holds a lot of power.

the same with me, it is very powerful.

Crits: the front tank looks weird at the front, down the bottom. The panel extends too the ground, which it doesn't irl. The tracks also look strange, they're not square. Nice work though, good luck finishing

Oh and whats the grey sq doing there?

Thanks for the comments, yea it is an incredibly powerful picture.

The reason that the front tank still looks weird is because (although its got over 220 shapes in it) its no way near finished, im posting my progress as i go through the stages of making my first vector.

As i said in my first post i expect this to take me 2 weeks if not more to complete, with over an hours work each day (if not far more).

As im sure you can see by the road, road marking, shaddows, the man and the tanks behind it. This is mearly the start. I expect the first tank to have a bit over 1000 custom made shapes on it, the tanks behind it to have around 400 each, the road to have a little over 100 and the guy to have around about 40 (although its difficult to see due to the size, theres already 13 on him)

And finally for the grey square, i never meant for it to be seen on there, its for use as a colour referance (i actually thought i deleted it)

I saw the video, but I don't really understand what went on

What was the point in all of it?

I saw the video, but I don't really understand what went on

What was the point in all of it?

From what I remember, it was a protest against a war? Seeing how tanks are not very agile and aren't allowed to harm civilians, that man could stop the tanks by standing in front of them.

As for the image, it's very good. I'd love to be able to do vectors, but I just don't know where to start. I haven't seen anybody use that particular image before, but i'm sure it's been done a few times.

tut tut! history lessons guys?

The Tiananmen Square protests of 1989, also known as the Tiananmen Square Massacre, June 4th Incident, or the Political Turmoil between Spring and Summer of 1989 by the government of the People's Republic of China, were a series of demonstrations led by students, intellectuals and labour activists in the People's Republic of China between April 15, 1989 and June 4, 1989. The resulting crackdown on the protestors by the PRC government left many civilians dead, the figure ranging from 200̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Ãâ300 (PRC government figures), to 2,000̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Ãâ3,000 (Chinese student associations and Chinese Red Cross).

On May 4, approximately 100,000 students and workers marched in Beijing making demands for free media reform and a formal dialogue between the authorities and student-elected representatives. The government rejected the proposed dialogue, only agreeing to talk to members of appointed student organizations. On May 13, two days prior to the highly-publicized state visit by the reform-minded Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev, huge groups of students occupied Tiananmen Square and started a hunger strike, insisting the government withdraw the accusation made in the People's Daily editorial and begin talks with the designated student representatives. Hundreds of students went on hunger strikes and were supported by hundreds of thousands of protesting students and part of the population of Beijing, for one week.

hope that clears it up. basically the chinese government didn't like it and shot them :? supposedly to stop the protest and save the lives of the people on the hunger strike....

Ok then it was a rebellion against the government. I knew it was a rebellion against something. :(

knkcopy.jpg

correct, to stop the censorship (where the government blocks the population from accesing certain information) they wanted freedom of speech etc etc etc.

if you want more information, i just copied slabs from this:

if u want an interesting read, i suggest it. It's certainly sad though.

See above where it is far better explained than i could ever do...

But ne who yea this picture shows one man standing up for what he believed in. An act that is widely believed had him killed by his own government (away from Tiananment square), since it was never revealed who he was and he has never been heard from or seen since.

[edit] my confussing explination of events have been confused on acount of its been far better explained.

No it wasn't against a war... The tiananmen square protests of 1989, were a series of demonstrations led by students, intellectuals and labour activists in the peoples republic of China between april 15 1989 and June 4th 1989 the resulting crackdown on the protestors left about 200-300 dead (Governments estimates) or 2,000- 3,000 dead chinese students assiciations and chinese red cross...

Also

The incident is named after the location of the movement in Tiananmen Square, Beijing. Some historians also call it the Beijing massacre. The protestors came from disparate groups, ranging from intellectuals who believed the Communist Party of China-led government was too corrupt and repressive, to urban workers who believed Chinese economic reform had gone too far and that the resulting rampant inflation and widespread unemployment was threatening their livelihoods.

After the protestors defied government calls to disperse, a split emerged within the Communist Party of China on how to respond to the protestors. Out of the party turmoil, a hardline faction emerged and the decision was made to quell the protests, rather than to heed their demands

I am actually Australian myself, but its nice to see that it's supported, i wasn't too sure what reactions would be like, although it is in no way meant to be, i thought some may see it as disrespectful.

I wont be doing any more work to it tonight, but expect to see an update tomorrow.

i knew the protest was by students, but i thought it was against some law the chinese passed or something, limited their rights, and the chinese are dictatorship (or something like it, as there is only allowed to be 1 political party) and they killed / arrested the protestors. ive never actually seen the guy in front of the tanks, but i always had. my dad said when the tank turned he turned with it etc, that was 1 damn brave man. i want to see a video of it
