Salem Witch Trials

Today I heard someone talking about the Salem Witch Trials and I couldnt help but overhear them say several innacuracies and myths about the events.

If you dont know about the Trials, I suggest you read up on them they're quite interesting.

What I want know is whats your theory on the six girls who accused all the people? Were they really possed by Tituba, Sarah Good, and the others? Or were they lieing, and had schemed up an act to seem like there was a Spectre? Or do you have another theory?

Its better to be judged by twelve, than to be carried by six.

You cant really prove that. Theres no proof agianst or fo the ability to summon, curse, control people.

Yeah, but logically, it's unrealistic. Considering all the rules of science, it would be impossible to place curses, summon objects, and possess people.

It was all a hoax.

1) Teenage boredom.

2) EXTREMELY strict "live-by-the-bible-or-die" lifestyles.

3) Chores chores and more chores.

Those three things were the general conditions of the Salem town, would drive any 16 year old to madness, it would.

So they made some stuff up got some people in trouble but hey, they were just having fun. They didn't have Runescape back then, but they did have fake witch possessing. ::'

We don't rebel to sell it just suits us well, we're the bright young things.

Ignorance of the times + religion.

Seems when those two combine, lots of people usually die.

Indeed. Witches, Heratics, etc.

Anyone who said anyone against the church usually ended up dead eventually.

(I know its not very likley but)

What about Tituba? She confessed to witchcraft and said she was cursing the girls, and signed her name in a tall devil like man from boston who claimed that hiss book was the Devils book?

I tihnk she wasnt lying, I do believe that she thought she was cursing the girls. And she did confess so her lfie would be spared.

Its better to be judged by twelve, than to be carried by six.

Its obvious it was all made up. They were caught doing something wrong so they pointed their fingers. The only trouble was it wasn't meant to get out of hand and kill people.

Yes. They burn the suspicious women.

hmm.. true. To be realistic, history had made this into:

Ignorance of the times + religion+Fear+Blame+Money+Power

Then a lot of people die.

What about Tituba?

If I remember from the novel I've read back at Highschool, she wasn't actually a witch. She did perform some witchcraft like chants and sacrifice, but she was already fingerpointed from her race {she's a mulato} and "her witchcraft."

I don't know about Sarah Good though.

-=Aznhuskarl=- Cleric

-=20Cent=- Juggernaught

More to come...

My history teacher last year taught us about the Salem Witch trials in a fun but slightly cruel way. We had just finished a test the day before and we came into class she acted mad. She slammed the door when she walked in and the class got quiet. She proceede to tell us that she had reason to believe that some of us cheated on the test. She named 10 people, the 10 people least likely to cheat. Then she told us 10 to stand out in the hall. She walked out and as soon as the door shut she told us what was going on. She told us that when we walked back in, to act like we were going to the office. Anyway, it was real fun and she tied it all into the Salem Witch trials really well. One of my favorite teachers that I've ever had.

hmm, that actually sounds like a pretty good idea for a teacher. wish more teachers were creative in the way they teach.

Ooo I acted out the Crucible back in school!! Yeah I played some random girl that could see a bird in the rafters.. meh. But yeah I agree with the majority, the girls made it up to cover up what they were doing, Abigail being the ringleader...

The popularity of the Crucible blurred people's thoughts about the subject unfortunately...

Good to read though. :-k

The Enrichment Center reminds you that the weighted companion cube will never threaten to stab you and, in fact, cannot speak.

In the event that the weighted companion cube does speak, the Enrichment Center urges you to disregard its advice.
