Horoscopes

So for the past few weeks I've looked up my horoscope every day and compared it to my plans and how things are playing out through the days. I was wondering if anyone else checks their horoscopes? Do they seem to be accurate (with your plans/how your day seems to go)?

Mine have been pretty accurate. My horoscope for Saturday says to hang out with friends and not take life too seriously. Well, my plans for Saturday are going to a friends party and having some fun..

Horoscopes are an absolute load of tosh.

The word is not accurate, it is ambiguous. If horoscopes were to be believed then half a billion people (assuming a world population of 6 billion with an even birthday distribution) would be having the same sort of day as each other.

Some people are changed by being a moderator. I wouldn't be.

According to the research I've done into my family history I'm part Irish

Also, my sign is Virgo (my birthday is Sept. 7) and there's quite a few places to find your horoscope online. Easiest is Yahoo..

I read mine occasionally, but take it with a pinch of salt. Like was said before, it's ambiguous, you can just read them to mean what you want, nothing they ever say is specific. And omg mahoosive spider.... (off topic sorry... but have to kill...)

Horoscopes and Astrology goes into the category of "woo woo" and is nothing more than a sham. There is strictly no evidence to prove astrology works and any double blind testing done has proved against it. I really dont want to get too involved in this topic because i fear i will start getting lairy about how foolish people are beliving this trash. The Skeptic Dictionary has a good article on the subject as does James Randi (head of the JREF $1,000,000 paronormal challenge)

Why would anybody want to complete a horrorscope anyway? It's ironic that people spend time on finding out when they are supposedly going to die instead of using their life to it's full potential and not worrying about it. Not relying on something that is clearly a con for the paranoid gullable people in this world.

Here is a small selection of horoscopes for my sun sign today Friday 15th September

Russel Grant

An unexpected bill will cause you to hesitate and think carefully about your financial situation. You might be dissatisfied with the way your mate is handling their money. It is up to you to take joint monetary commitments into your own hands. You might urge others to be extra cautious with their cash. Do this in as diplomatic a way as you possibly can!

Jonathan Cainer

Write a letter - but don't post it. Get all your feelings down on a piece of paper and then destroy it. Set fire to it or rip it into pieces. Don̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t feel obliged, this weekend, to communicate your deepest truth. Once you have fully articulated it to yourself you'll understand precisely why this advice is appropriate. Understand what you need to understand then say only as much as there is any point in saying. What matters now is not that someone else knows the score - but that you know it.

Horoscopes.co.uk

Financial or ethically-based discussions may now be taking place. You might need help from a lawyer or well-versed friend. Protecting your interests seems more important than usual. The outline of a deal could be agreed. This could put significant stress on your nervous system though. So this might not be the best day to try out a new food. Anything unfamiliar could put pressure on your sensitive system. This could have the interesting result of you planning to construct an old recipe over the weekend.

Yahoo

Are you feeling a growing sense of responsibility toward someone new? Be careful about acting on these feelings right now, because you don't really know who you're dealing with yet. You might step over a boundary without realizing it, and it's very important to respect the personal boundaries other people have established. Don't push anyone to do something they seem reluctant about. Take things slowly, and use your charm to lure someone out of their shell

Lets analyse this for a moment... Both Russel Grant and Horoscopes.co.uk both mention finantial issues, however Russel says it is the friend that needs the help whearas horroscopes.co.uk says its you. Not to mention of course that EVERYONE has finantial and money issues these days. Its something that everyone could relate to whatever their sun sign. Cainer and Yahoo make mo mention of the seemingly very important finantial issues currently arrising and make completely vague statments about how you are currently thinking about stuff right now. Its all complete BS and if i could be arsed i'd get into analysing "love" horoscopes showing no corrolation between any of the astrology readings by different people.

Even when taking the actual written statements aside the idea of "Mars travelling though Orion" CAN be tested. We can pinpoint the location of the planets in the sky and how much electro magnetism is being given off by each one etc and all of that evidence clearly proves that the Atrologers are just talking rubbish.

Belive it if you want but its nothing more than a scam

The thing is, you'll read the horoscope, which will influence you to behave in the way it says.

Oh my word, I can't leave this thread without mentioning Dave Gorman's Important Astrology Experiment. Absolutely brilliant. He followed his horoscopes exactly for 40 days or something, and compared it with this twin brother's normal. He rated both their lives on a happiness scale of Love + Health + Wealth = Happiness. Haha, I remember on the penultimate day of something he was on -2000 or something crazy, and he ended up on really high points because he won the lottery on the last day! :P

So, Dave Gorman concluded: Following your horoscopes will make you happier ^_^

Horoscopes rely on several things. Firstly there is an extension of the Barnum Statements (aka Forer effect) which are sets of statements that could apply to pretty much anyone. Secondly people who wish to believe horoscopes are prone to flawed analysis, specifically focussing on spurious correlations and rejecting outright and conflicts.

The only good horoscope I have ever read was in the Framley Examiner and read as follows (something like at least, I read it years ago):

Pisces: If it's any consolation those 239 people would have died anyway in the end.

Well, checked my horo's today for the hell of it, Yahoo said:

You're an intensely physical person, but you need to balance that out with a more cerebral attitude. Take your gut reactions into account, but think about the long term while you're at it, okay?

That's about right. Tequila makes my gut go no-no >.<

It's interesting how 1/12th of the world's population that happens to have been born around the same time are all intensely physical people who need to balance it out with a more cerebral attitude.

That was it. He put money on Ian Woosman to win a Dubai golf tournament!

And won because Pluto aligned with Jupiter, causing...Well, nothing at all, and certainly nothing that would effect us on Earth. :-w

Edit:

My Horoscope said this today;

"Sometimes we can suddenly find ourselves feeling that the world is taking us for granted. You have been working exceptionally hard these last few weeks and today it may feel as though nobody has noticed your efforts. If you let a close friend know just how you feel you may be surprised at their response."

I have not done a thing of importance or anything that can be catagorized as "hard work" for...Months. I smell poopie.

i always read my horoscope at the end of the day, to see if it was true or not. and then i read all the other ones, and discover that *shock* they are all true for evry one in a 1st world country, every day, all 12 of them

Back by popular demand!

And I guess I just wanted to tell you, as the light starts to fade, that you aree the reason, that I am not afraid, and I guess I just wanted to mention, as the heavens will fall, that we will be together soon if we will be anything at all.

Just say Capricorn, and when they say "I knew it", say "No, wait.. Actually I'm an aquarius". That'll keep their mouth wide shut...

Anyways, horoscope is already listed on most services, TV ads, etc. as "entertainment". That's what you should treat it as. 8-) If you're bored, go and read them. Just don't base your life on them. Make your own destiny instead of following some ridiculous planetary explanations.

"Orion will soon dispatch the cellular metaphysics of the Mars while obligating nuclear rabbits to purchase radiating stocks on Jupiter and those born in January should expect two daily servings of meatballs" bla bla...

Like Anesthesia said, it is quite an entertaining thought that a single description daily fits 1/12th of the entire world population no matter where they live, who they are, what they do, are they ill, healthy, young, old...
