My crackpot theory is that a relativistic view of truth will lead to a rebellion against structure in language until one day all people speak in nothing but insanely long run-on sentences and speech will take place at a dizzying speed as no one will any longer take the time to breathe in between sentences as there will be no such thing as sentences any longer and of course this will take place in writing as well as speech because people will no longer use punctuation and language as we currently know it will come to an end

The end of the world? Well, there's a red dwarf star that's about 150 light years or so from us that could go supernova at any time. 160 light years is the safe distant, so we'll be just in the outer range of the blast. Losta gamma rays smacking our planet to death.

But by the time it goes supernova we'll probably be further from it. Which makes me angry. bacab wants a big boom.

My crackpot theory is .... (post goes on for a while)

Not everyone is from an English speaking country.

edit- forgot some 0's

We don't rebel to sell it just suits us well, we're the bright young things.

No need to defend him. It was meant to be a friendly jab, as indicated by the ;) at the end.

Maybe if you left your land that smells like purple you would do better...

I think there's going to be some major world war, followed by a massive uprising of all people against their governments, and the world would essentially revert back to a feudalistic society. Don't know if the world will literally 'end' or not.

Look on the bright side! Once we finally kill ourselves, the world can start to heal itself and be awesome again.

Wow, that sounded a lot more hippy-esque than I wanted it to, but yea...True story.

The popularity of any given religion today depends on the victories of the wars they fought in the past.

Stop the presses, I've had the zaniest idea in recent memory.

What if the world ends on account of a massive nuclear war, but the human race doesn't "end" but is exposed to so much radiation that humans literally become cavemen all over again, and virtually all signs of modern civilization are destroyed and we just start over again. It would explain a lot of things, like de ja vus, Atlantis myths, and the humans that are advanced enough to make it off the planet alive come back eons later as "aliens" and watch us...

I think little green aliens would come down from little flying saucers and would invade our planet.

We would all die in the invasion.

But this is just my opinion, though.

HAHAHA! This is a funny thread. Good job. It gave me a laugh on some of the theories...

Yeah, I was watching a 20/20 episode on the end of the world. They named the 7 most likely ways the end of the world could happen. Global warming was right at #1. I figure it's very possible. The worst thing about it is that it's the people on this planet that are causing it. It's almost like suicide. Another thing that I found interesting was that on Friday, April 13th, 2029, an asteroid will come so close to Earth that it will dip under our communications satellites. It will not hit us but it will just miss us. The thing is, a few years later (they said the exact number but I don't remember), the same asteroid will come at us again. This time, there is a 1/1000 chance that it could hit us. It would not cause the end of the world but it woulc change the way we know the world. It's kind of scary when you think that in the next 100 years, our planet could be changed so drastically and we could possibly prevent it.

That would be only three days after I turn 37.

Anyways, I don't think anything too horrible will happen in our generation, it's the next generation that has it REALLY rough.

Global warming is one of the most likely.. It certainly won't destroy the whole world but countries that are near Greenland (such as USA) will be having a nice time if the whole of Greenland (which is ice) melts into the ocean. The sea level would be about 7 meters (about 20 feet) higher... I'll laugh so hard then. ("there's no such thing as global warming! hypocrite liar lefties! err.. why are my shoes wet?)"

What's sad is that people use Global Warming to get recognition.

The world is eternally in a cycle of heating and cooling, we happen to be in the warming phase.

91% of all "greenhouse gasses" would still be produced if humans did not exist. These are produced by wild animals and the world itelf, including world's largest pollution vent: volcanoes.

7% of the remainder is due to human agriculture over the past thousands of years. Mostly from wheatfields, cornfields, and other farming areas.

less than 2% is made by human pollution by exhaust or industrial venting.

It's inevitable, and is only a part of the nature of the world. We survived the last time, I am sure we can survive this time around.

Yeah I really don't think global warming is going to "end us".

As human's we have adapated through enough change, and we can adapt through this as well. It may bring more deaths, but the human race is also a verstile one, and we won't die out so easily  .

I haven't heard about that asteroid No_OnE is talking about until now. If one hit and (if it was large enough size) it would deffinitly change the world up.

I don't know what will happen in our life time but i'm almost positive that WW III will happen during out lifetime. Considering most of us are within the 15-25 range and asuming we live to be 80ish, we still have about 50-60 years left (i'll say 60). So technicly i'm almost positive something will happen between now (2006) and then (2066).

I am interested in seeing how the next generation is going to be, however, and what their living conditions are. It's interesting to think how much the world has even changed since our generation and the last generation (probaly people from around the mid 1900's, like 1940/50.) Hell, part of me wishes I could be in the next generation of people just to see what the hell happens. Ah well, should be interesting. :)
