October 2, 200619 yr Linkage Now this is probably one of the most closeminded things I've read lately... "He looked through the book and found the following things wrong with the book: discussion of being drunk, smoking cigarettes, violence, "dirty talk," references to the Bible and using God's name in vain." Does he think it's going to corrupt his daughter or something? And about the references of the Bible, I don't really remember a problem that could occur from that, because didn't they treasure it because it was on of the last books they had? Still, all of his concerns are just egh and his daughter is definitely going to have a hell of a time come college (if he allows her to go  ) > I just posted something! ^_^ to the terrorist...er... kirbybeam.
October 2, 200619 yr The girl needs to lose some weight. She is way too obese to be caring about books right now.
October 2, 200619 yr Protection is ok, but too much is sheltering your child from the real world. And in doing that you're actually worsening your childs life. Me doing staff.
October 2, 200619 yr That has got to be the dumbest thing I have ever heard in a while. According to whose religion? Yours? FHI (for his info), not everyone is Christian and believes what he does. Besides, they mention all those things in Health class, which is mandatory. Why doesn't he [bleep] about that too? Trix.--quit WoW as of 12/07Thank you 4be2jue for the wonderful sig and avatar!
October 2, 200619 yr Reminds me of our class trip to see Da Vinci Code. One of the parents literaly tried to stop us from going. We ended up having to go after school. #-o Me doing staff.
October 2, 200619 yr When will people look through the bad and see the good. The book has an excellent theme, and themes are there to teach people. Macbeth has swearing and naughty things, yet we read it in school just cause it has a good story and excellent themes. Sig by IkuraiYour Guide to Posting! Behave or I will send my Moose mounted Beaver launchers at you!

If you had read, there was an alternate book with similar themes available :P I just posted something! ^_^ to the terrorist...er... kirbybeam.
October 3, 200619 yr When my dad was in high school they were suppose to read Catch22 and his dad, who was a WW2 veteran, told the principal he wouldn't let my dad read it because it was "anti-military." (Okay, so I shouldn't put it in quotes. The book is very, very anti-military - but it's still a fantastic book. I'm the most pro-military person you'll find and Catch22 is one of my favorite books. [/rant]) The girl is 15. Sure, I could understand there being a problem about a book with "language" and "bad themes" before the girl is old enough to see a PG13 movie, but this is ridiculous.

Sure, I could understand there being a problem about a book with "language" and "bad themes" before the girl is old enough to see a PG13 movie, but this is ridiculous. That last sentence is a laugh. If your 15 and you haven't seen an R rated movie than I pity you. PG-13 is nothing. It's serious once it hits NC-17. Me doing staff.
October 3, 200619 yr ... Besides, they mention all those things in Health class, which is mandatory... There is an op out form for health class when discussing sexual related material.
October 3, 200619 yr It's America, people always find something to complain about in this country. ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâï(̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâú_o)/̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâï
October 3, 200619 yr It's America, people always find something to complain about in this country. They're just following the propaganda slogan! 'Be all you can't be!' the (n't) part is subliminal >_> <_< ;) just kidding in case you didn't get the sarcasm
October 3, 200619 yr This happens to be the definition of irony. He's censoring a book. But the book's theme is the over censorization of books. By the way, I've read the book and I don't remember that much dirty language... apart from one phrase that sort of stuck in my mind because one of my friends laughed at it. The part where Captain Beatty tells Montag that they have their fingers in the dike. He's talking about a dam of course, you dirty minded people .... We don't rebel to sell it just suits us well, we're the bright young things.

Regardless of your opinion, PG-13 is a standard to guide what is allowed for 13 year olds without parental consent. It's the most reasonable measurement of a book that would not be rated more than PG13.

R is debatable, but tends to be 17+. Me doing staff.

Why are you repeating what I'm saying and trying to make it look like you're arguing with me? (Also, thanks for telling me what PG-13 means. I'm glad that you don't know that the President can't veto Supreme Court cases, but you think I need help deciphering what PG-13 means.)
October 3, 200619 yr Protection is ok, but too much is sheltering your child from the real world. And in doing that you're actually worsening your childs life. I couldn't agree more. No matter how much a parent shelters their son/daughter. Once that kid is off to college, they're gonna wanna try everything there is to try. - Only character in Runescape History maxed out in RSC and RS2

October 3, 200619 yr The dad probably hates gay people, and holds church group book-burinings. Can't people see that they won't always there to shelter their children, and if they do, then that's kind of weird? I used to have a link to my school's project to provide fresh water to a Kenyan Village, but the sig police changed the link to say something, which, if followed, leads to an "ahem" adult website. Let me ask you. Which do you think is worse?
