The highscores drive me. Maybe that's sad, but it's true. At first it was a goal to have all stats ranked. Then I wanted to be top 500.000, next top 200.000 etc etc. I like the thought of there being only xxxx people who are better in the skill/total then I am :D. However, a rank 1 is not something I strive for. I'm not that crazy...

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

exactly same thing i am doing. Just got my combat on high scores and now raising them more to get them to 500,000. To be better than others is what most people only care about.

just stupid... [example]now our names are onm a list of the "best" and then... no-one will know you... then you are just a lvl 126... got a 99 skill f2p?? how can you ever proof it??[/example]

highscores it what helps you see what you need to train to make yourself a better player. like right now i am a noob but at slower levels you can rate on exp not just levels. a fresh level 88 woodcut is different then a 88 almost 89 woodcut.

I think they should give you an option to not appear in the highscores. Maybe just replace your name with "hidden" for a placeholder.

yep but if your -22 skills.....then not many people would look you up. and also if you have an ownage amount of total exp in combat but 4 98s bout to level that would be ownage you can be number 1 that way easy.

I've been thinking about this to, I've been worried about my lower level skills dropping down to the 100.000 rank. My mining is the lowest ranked, I want to get it up, but mining is soooo boring. :wall:

 

 

 

There would be less stress to train my skills for me, which will give me a more relaxed playing expierence. I know what some of you might say "Don't check the highscores then", but I always have a feeling to always check how "badly" I'm doing. :?

the highscores doesn't motivate me, getting a 99 does...i don't really care all that much if 5000 people have this lvl, and i want it 2...i just want it. Without the highscores, yes it would deter a lot more people. But it's nice to be recognized.

As you can see, my stats SUCK (no offense to anyone, but in comparison to my level...). If the skill's in a blue rectangle it didn't even make it into the top 50,000. If it didn't even make top 100k it got a pretty pink rectangle. Ya.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Nontheless, I still believe that the hiscores are a good idea to keep around. They do in fact drive people to get good levels and gain fame, and hopefully people who don't like a skill will realize it's just a number, and know for themselves that they don't need to level that skill if they don't want to (i.e., me).

Highscores are good for Jagex, if it wasn't for the highscores they'd be missing out on alot of income from the top players (not sure if the name naming applies to this situation so i'll stay on the safe side) who continue to play to maintain and increase in the ranks and probably would have long since quit if there were no high scores through which to display their accomplishments.

I personally think it's a bad Idea, Thousands of players would quit because most people want to be number 1

also they would lose some members. people see that they can never get a good rating in nonmembers so they subscribe, me..

The Highscores is definitely the drive to play for a lot of people (including me). It keeps you going.

It shows all your levels and xp all on one easy to read page and shows how far you are compared to the rest of the RS community.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

It can compare yourself with your friends, so you can have mini competitions with them.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

It also can help you by giving random people's stats, so you don't get barraged by a pure while staking (they normally lose anyway)..

well sometimes i just think...it's just a game and supposed to be for fun not skills...but yeah i'm not saying i dont like highscores :P

no i want highscores because i stake alot and i like to check stats before duels to make sure they're not going to cheat me in some way and im proud of alot of my stats (except magic, fletching, ranged and runecraft :-w )
