Tritium and Deuterium.

:D

But seriously, alcohol and chlorine is always a fun one...put it in a bottle and soon you'll have a small bomb.

NH4NO3 + Gasoline.

Aww, but that's just an outright bomb!

There are some actual fun chemical reactions, although I can't remember the chemicals involved. My favorite was where you mix two chemicals and they turn into a foam about 10x the volume of the original liquids, and they turn colors while doing it.

Exactly, that's why its so fun.

Alluminium and HCl, in a plastic bottle, all noise, jsut dont get too close

Would the Al have to be aqueous?

Nope, drop in some aluminum foil. It's definitely not pure aluminum, but it is enough to cause a good reaction.

the Al can be in any state (though... solid is perferable)

Al foil works very well ifyou crumble/rip it right... LOTS of surface area

as for reaction... fermentation

just be carefull. one time i didnt put enough Al foil in and it didnt blow, so i undid the lid and got acid vapour down my throat, not nice

OT: Luring is sooo easy to avoid. That's what those nice signposts are for.

For all those nerds out there.....

Post your favourite chemical reactions here.

This one is my favourite - what a stupid kid

I think you'd take an interest in the reaction between Cesium and water, then.

Cesium is for pansies, break out the Francium!

Personally I enjoy breaking the bonds in NI3, safe and still ridiculously loud.

As for unsafe, let's just blow up some hydrogen, nice and simple.

The first time I tried the reaction I just put it in a yogurt cup, and set it right outside my door so I could watch through the window. It started bubbling and smoking crazily, so I opened up the door to knock it over. My room smelled like that gas the rest of the night, and my throat and nostrils were raw the next day. I pushed it over with the first thing I saw, which was a fish net. It melted it completely away.

Yep, better be careful :D

the trick is geting cesium (or rubidium i think) to the water since it reacts with air. I like things involving magnesium, oxygen, hydrogen, and any alkali metal. Drano and tinfoils good to.

2 pieces of advice involving methane (which is like hydrogen around a flame :D ). 1. never light a fart on fire, a friend tried and found out the flame is two-way (ouch!). 2. Never light a match over an open septic tank if you want to live, if the methane ignites, your dead. (obviusly i havent tried personaly, but you can see why).

Anothe one (i might have this wrong). Hydrochloric acid and a bit of something (i forget what, but its a catalyst in this reaction). basicly boils the acid really fast. Once put too much in, almost got blasted in the face with steam (the acid turns to water).

I never got to take Chemistry in highschool, though I'm hoping I can at community college before I go to University so I don't feel too lost. :P

I made many "Works bombs" (Aluminum + Works toilet bowl cleaner, as people have mentioned above) when I was younger just to mess around with them. They're only semi-dangerous. :P My friend had one go off inside of his coat pocket while he was holding on to it and nothing happened to him. Scared the crap out of us both though, I thought his hand would be mutilated. He didn't think it'd explode unless you shook it, so he put it into his pocket to walk to where we were blowing them up, and it blew up...early. :P Obviously, at 12, he wasn't aware that "Shake" isn't an element and thus wouldn't have much more of an effect on something.

A girl I went to school with, in Chemistry, had something explode in her face too. She had some burns and stuff, nothing very serious, she's not disfigured or even scarred, they were very light burns. She should have sued though, the teacher told her the wrong chemicals to mix and she got a face full of nasty. :P

The popularity of any given religion today depends on the victories of the wars they fought in the past.

For those H20 and Alkali fans:

I'm a fan of Thermite as someone mentioned above (its a power that when lit burns at 4500̢̮â¬Å¡ÃâðF, used to melt through safes and locks)

But my favorite is Lycopodium powder(an inert powder that, if airborn, suddenly becomes explosive). It was awesome, we had to travel to a elementary school and do a sceince demo. Everyone else did the experiements like making foam, or goo, or changing colors. I go up there and put a candle on a desk then wave my hand past it, releasing a Hershey's kiss sized ball of the powder that instantly spreads into a cloud and a millisecond later ignites into a fireball as big as a fireplace. \'

My teacher gave me half a pound or so of the stuff so I did the experiment like 5 times. The kids coudln't see the powder from where they were sitting, and they were all like 5 so they didn't get chemistry. Afterwards I had like 30 kids following me around calling me various Japenesse names (presumably off some cartoon show) and all asking me things like

"Teach me how to cast fire!!!"

"Can you ride dragons?!"

"How much power does it take to cast?!"

"What is you're dragons name?! Can we see him!!?"

"Take us with you to "

I bet quite a few parents were confused when the kids got home

an alkanol (alcohol) + alkaoic acid (corboxcylic acid) --- (sulphuric acid catalyst) ---- produces an ester with water being liberated.

esters are a class of organic compound with unique aromas, commonly used as food addatives.

some smell like banannas, oranges, cherries and much, much more.

mentoes + coke

LOL

IT goes BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!

 Old, but I laugh at the person (probably some random kid) who accidently figured this out by inserting random stuff in a coke bottle and the whole living room floor started flooding with black liquid... Hopefully his parents weren't around.
