December 17, 200619 yr I am courious to the story of Tip.It. How it came about, how it was first publicized, who did most of the original work... I would appreciate any infor relating to this. Thank you Last.fm Signature Overlays
December 17, 200619 yr I don't remember when it exactly first came around. I haven't been around that long. (been here since 2002). However, Lightning started the forums. We've gone through a few 'versions' of the forums, the largest probaly being this and the last one we had on a dk3 hosting service. Needless to say, the guys sucked so we ended up switching. Long story short, we lost all of the data and had to start these forums fresh.

December 17, 200619 yr Author any other info, not just forums? I am curious to who wound the cogs that started tip.It and how they turned it from a ghost town with no publicity, to the ever-popular site it is today. Last.fm Signature Overlays
December 17, 200619 yr Well, that accounts for the .It part Omg, I seriously never realized that. Me doing staff.
December 17, 200619 yr I know the founder is Italian. 8-) Silverion. :P "In so far as I am Man I am the chief of creatures. In so far as I am a man I am the chief of sinners." - G.K. Chesterton

December 17, 200619 yr The Steel thing... Weren't they a Steel bar making company in-game? Or am I just talkin' crap? ;P More likely since no ones name starts with an E :P I just posted something! ^_^ to the terrorist...er... kirbybeam.
December 17, 200619 yr "STEEL" corperation? [what the heck]? That would be the combo of their names I believe. Actually, a lot of those people were involved in smithing/mining the first 'high level' bars/ores in runescape, for example Hitman X had the capability to mine adamantite at an astonishingly early phase of the game, Bluerose went on to be the first rune smith, and Kibble was a very succesful miner for his day. The OP asked how tip.it became popular. Well, this was the first fansite, and it got mentions on the runescape.com site often (the site did have it's own forums even back then, but were removed for over 4 years). Staff like Andrew and Paul posted often on the older tip.it forums, but as the game grew more popular and increasingly professional in nature, their posts started decreasing. There have been at least 4 forums here: One on tip.it, one on runetipit.board.dk3.com, one on scapeboard.com, and finally, forum.tip.it.

December 17, 200619 yr You must be confused victor. :P Numbers cannot be used in top-level domains. Dk3 was the service provider, and as pointed out, .com was obviously the TLD.

O, well I knew .com was the TLD, but I thought .dk3 was some sort of sub TLD, meaning Denmark and the 3 meaning the area or something. I thought the same about .it. But it still makes me think why .it is there? The Tip It domain address is so complicated I just use favorites. http://www.tipit.com would be easier. BTW Viktor  Me doing staff.

December 17, 200619 yr Silverion is Italian and I remember tip.it/runescape became somewhat famour for it's detailed quest walkthroughts(and thus shunned by andrew and paul because it had them) Back in the day there was a list of fansite ranked gold, silver or bronze depending on how good they were and tip.it was gold and then because of the walkthroughs it got moved down to bronze
