I am always overjoyed to see more tablet users out there. For all of you free hand artists, are you using a mouse or a tablet? Or better yet, the so called holy grail, the drawable lcd (more common now with tablet pc's)

They have a drawable LCD where I work.... it's so bad [wagon].

The one I use at home is the basic wacomGraphireIII, the 3x5 one.... kicks sooo much arse.

do you actually like the larger tablets?

Well to be honest I have never sketched in one. The only thing I do with them is use the SoftImageXSI we have... But I must say they are pretty cool when all we have is huge dual monitors everywhere. The thing that I like about the small tablet is that I can cover a huge area by just flicking my wrist once. However I'm sure there are some advantages of being able to detail little areas with the larger tablet. I know that when I sketch, sometimes it helps to be able to move my entire arm across the canvas.

I like the small one, never tried the large one. I know some who have had both (one at work, etc.) and they prefer the smaller one at times. A lot of them wind up using only a portion of the large one (software limiting.)

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I don'treally find detail work to be a problem on the small one...but maybe I dont do enough details :)

I am thinking of buying a tablet, but I can't draw very well normally so I am not sure if it will be just a waste of money. Nearly everyone of my friends is taking an art and design course at the local vocational school so I am sure they could use it if I couldn't. Do you think its worth buying or not? How much of a difference is there between it and drawing on normal paper?

well.. i'm sure i'd like the tablet for drawing better (can't draw worth a crap with mouse) but my tablet that i found in my house a while back is really... meh. lol for one the thing isn't working anymore :lol: :lol:

I have to admit that I can't stand doing artwork with a mouse. It makes me all colours of frustrated (yes, I did mean to type colours and not kinds). My tablet is a life saver.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I like to ink my work in photoshop because one slip of the hand doesn't ruin the entire picture, and God only knows how many slips I've had. I also do a lot of colouring and whatnot in photoshop, and I'm a big fan of brushing work slowly and softly; I brush it the way I paint with water colours, minus all the annoying waiting while a layer of paint dries. The table is more fluid and easier to handle; it's by far more natural in my hand than the mouse.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

It's not like I have a horrid mouse either, it's optical and fairly recent. It's just awkward. XD

I want to get a tablet, but i dont have any $ (despite my name :cry: ) , plus i have better things to spend my money on, so far i dont have much use for a tablet, but i really want one , my address is......... send me one!!

Mouse. I never tried one of those sketch pads, perhaps one day. :P

I just got my tablet yesterday. I call it a Palm Tungsten E :P It may sound abnormal, but it is pretty easy to use. It's the best resolution for the price, and can do more than just draw. Well, my plug for the day.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I can't draw unless I can see on the canvas what I'm drawing. Wacoms and other non-LCD tablets are good and all, but they just don't do it for me.

I bet wacom cintiq would work for ya :)

and in a year im getting a Wacom Cintiq 18X (or better if they come out with newer by then). this would be your 'drawable lcd', its a 18'' flatpanel lcd monitor with wacom tablet technology. also about $2500 USD I think.
