ThoseTheBrokes
It does look like he/she is running. Maybe it's just because it's being veiwed from the front. Although it seems rather stiff in movement.. Everything else is great, Even the hair moving makes it look more realistic. My dA account..retired, as of the 1st January 2008. eckered
i think his head needs to be bent a bit lower, to show that he is leaning forward. if you need some refrences, check out those old mario animations rofl, they are prety smooth and give a good runing illusion. its much easier to do running animations from the side btw. wop wop
woopidoo2
Or, you can add a ground to it which moves away, to make it more obvious that he is running. terley
the problem is it doesn't look like the legs are moving much (looks like he's tip-toe'ing), and especially animating a guy character the movements should be much more exagerated if you really want it to look like he's running. ->to-> heres how I'd start to change it.. 1st frame - widened the foot by 1 pixel so it looks like its coming closer to the screen 2nd frame - widened the knee in the same way its played pretty quickly so it gives the impression that there's depth to the image. 3rd frame - widened the foot by 1 pixel so it looks like its coming closer to the screen again 4th frame - brought the knee up to exagerate the movements more (did the same with the first frame too) 5th frame - widened the knee in the same way as the 2nd frame, Id also like to mention that lighter shades tend to raise parts and darker shades push them back, its a good idea to make the most of your shading. hope that helped Edit - ooh forgot to mention, nice sprite  Plus maybe a change in the frame rate? maybe not too noticable but it makes a big difference >> instead of a 0.1 second gap in between each I made the 1st, 3rd and 5th into no delay because whilst running your foot moves quickly up to when it hits mid-air and again till when you touch down.. pjb21
i was about to say have the head lower then i saw what eck write, then i saw what you did and so i shall say it. have the head lower when the characters body is puished foward, so the head is bopping up and down the whole time, makes it flow better and hence less stiff =) looking good tho. maybe also the arms go a bit too far back, but that may just be me... PJB21 100% my own work, i make my own brushes: set 1 set
beesafree
also the arms look like they are glued to the shirt, i don't think they go in front of you while running, they stay facing forward.... http://forums.thegamehomepage.com/
terley
you still need to widen the feet too by one pixel either side ( <- 1px- feet -1px-> ) maybe you widened it on the inside of the legs (when you run your feet don't point 'in'), it just doesn't look like the feet are coming closer, it may seem odd when your pixeling the feet larger but it does give the right result.. Varda
Would look good if you made it transparent. Edit: I made it transparent, but it only looked odd, something with the hair.
eckered
b2d- i think youve got it now. its lookin prety good =D @ sue_kitsu: 1- the reason it looks bad is ebcause i think me haid the hair pure white, and when you eliminate allt he white for trancparency, the hair becomes trancparent too. 2- teach me to make trancparencies pl0x? wop wop
Varda
No, the hair did not became transparent, but the hair on the layer under, was showing on the top layer, so it had the running animation right, but it was like: _ _ -_ all the way, quite annoying. To make a pic transparent, take the magic wand tool, mark the area you want, hit delete, and there you got transparent. It's magic
eckered
oh =( so it only works on photoshop? and you have to save it as .gif right? wop wop
Varda
It works with GIMP, but not Paint. I'm not sure with other programs. Since I mostly use Photoshop CS2 and Painter IX.
pjb21
[ontopic] hmm... the eyes could look straighter ahead, like move the pupils up 1 px, see how it looks. also its not that smooth (sorry im suddenly smooth freak, been doing way too much AAing in the past few hours, probably more than ive done up till this point in life) so yeah, add more frames, and in the frame(s) between the foot becoming 1px thicker add a line of grey where its gonna be bigger, makes it smoother. infact do that with more areas of it, so its kinda echo-y (proper word?) meh, yeah make it smoother is basicly wat im saying, you may not even need to add any more frames =) ill have a quick go atualy, soo what i can do =) PJB21 100% my own work, i make my own brushes: set 1 set
