Plus I'm not sure if I should mention that all these sites are run by an organisation called CharityUSA.com which isnt actually even a charity and instead is a profit organisation which gives a "percentage" to charities. Clicking on the sponsors' advertisements, and subsequently buying products from their site, does a fair bit more. Bunch of slacktivists. You make a fair point :D However, instead of getting discouraged, I recommend doing other and more significant actions instead. Join a local chapter of an organization you believe in. Or, if you're religious, maybe do some activism (i.e. soup kitchens) with your local church or synagogue or other place of worship. :D Alternatively, donate $5 (or more!) to an organization of your choice. Try to check and make sure that the money will really be going to what you want it to - and not just to the bureaucracy of the organization. UNICEF is a good one that really has relatively little overhead cost :D While organizations always need money, you can feel more secure that your direct action and volunteerism will actually be productive. Working in a soup kitchen is a great way to see your volunteerism have an immediate effect - and it's really quite helpful. Bring baked ziti :D Everybody hug and spread the love :D
January 3, 200719 yr Clicking every day for an entire year on that site generates LESS than $10 to HungerSite, of which an publicly unknown percentage is actually given to charity by CharityUSA (not a real charity). I ignore what they say on their website because if they really did give 100% to charity then they would have charitable status but as they obviously cream off a fair share for themselves its not the case. Of course because its an American for-profit company they don't have to provide any financial figures saying how much they do give. In theory they could cream it ALL for themselves if they wanted to. Back to the point on the $10/year... what can you buy for $10 these days? Its only about ÃÆââ¬Å¡Ãâã5.08 for me in the UK which buys a Magners and a packet of nuts. That's how insignificant a years worth of slacktivism does. I earn more than that for an HOURS work. How about people actually give some REAL money or support to causes that really deserve it rather than handing your money over to corporations relying on the philanthropy of people. I am arrogant about this, indy500fan, because people are getting rich over this and its NOT the charities I can assure you of that. Instead of clicking the buttons on these sites giving an HOURS pay out of the ENTIRE YEAR and it will still be more benefit. Ask yourself the question: Are you clicking to genuinely help charities or are you clicking to make yourself feel better about yourself? There are so many worthy genuine charities in the world deserving of money which you can guarantee will get to the people that need it most, rather than going towards a CEO's next Bentley. If you have the time to click a link on a website every day then you have got the time to do some fund raising, wash some cars, clean windows, mow lawns for example. Ask yourself the question: Are you clicking to genuinely help charities or are you clicking to make yourself feel better about yourself? There are so many worthy genuine charities in the world deserving of money which you can guarantee will get to the people that need it most, rather than going towards a CEO's next Bentley. No harm meant, just saying that people do get arrogant when they donate. Not saying you do per say, just that it isn't all that uncommon. The answer to the question would be: I am not clicking the links, nor do I donate to charity, because I don't care. My role models are the Grinch and Scrooge, pre-enlightenment of course :wink:
