I hope your mum is ok. Does she have amobile? ring her maybe?

Aaaww... Don't worry. I'm sure your mom is fine and will come home soon. And if you are that worried then try and call your mom, like warrior said. ^_^

Do you live in the south of America as well? I've heard there's tornados down there.

Don't worry I know how you feel, I live onntop of a hill... the houses/mansions were built in clearings in the forest so there are many trees around. In my house its very creepy because the trees make sounds and its very windy and there is alot of glass overlooking a dark forest and the house is big and lonely but I usually read or something in a "safe corner" to get my mind off it.

First thing I suggest is GET IN THE BASEMENT. I know I'm the kind of fool who will literally stand outside and watch for a tornado until something near me gets struck by lightning or a heavy object is sent my way by the wind, but I've experienced tornados all my life and it doesn't seem like you have much experience with them.

Second, keep calling. If there are tornados, your mom may have found shelter but left her phone in her car. Happens all the time to my mom. She'll walk in the door and realise her phone is still in the car. Don't worry too much, you're mom should be smart enough to know to find shelter when the weather takes a turn for the worse.

Get that window closed. The wind could easily knock things over if it's as strong as you say it is. No need to lose valuable items if you can easily prevent it.

Just wait out the storm, all you can do at the moment. Your mom's on her way, just keep calling because there might be some interference.

But on a more serious (but probably too extreme) note, if your house is shaking from the wind and a tree looks as if it is about to fall over.. I would seriously hide in your basement, and bring a phone. I don't live in an area where it gets really windy, but you never know.

You live in North America, but what part? Viktor said he heard of tornados in the southern part of the US-not South America

If there really is a tornado, you want to keep the window open. The pressure difference causes windows to break(I forget if they break out or in, but they do break)

You know, if a tornado came close enough to my house to break the windows via preassure, I don't think it would matter whether they were open or not..

tornadoes are most common in the western secton of the USA, around Kansas, the "Western States"(less common tho), and around the Idaho area. If so, go to the lowest point in your house and close all windows.

Most common areas in the US for tornados. I actually live in Tornado Ally or just barely to the north (would only be a few miles to the north).

Well, good luck! And tell us that you're OK afterwards :)

Don't keep the windows open if it's a tornado. The pressure difference actually doesn't cause houses to explode. The "exploding" effect is just the upward wind speed of the tornado tearing the house apart and flinging the debris upward. You're much safer with the windows closed.

I live almost perfectly in the middle of it all, Northeastern Kansas lol, never had a tornado go through my area though, they always go around.

And is it me, or has tornado ally expanded over the years, last time I saw a map it only included maybe half of those states and didn't go that far north. :-k

I think it has too. Last time I saw this map it hardly included Illinois.

I hope your alright! If you have a basement, get in it. (To late now, I'd imagine.)
