Banning becoming a more frequent happening?

Featured Replies

Anyways, I have only been browsing the forums with this account for less then 3 weeks, and I have already read at least 10 threads about someone being banned. Why is this? The topic starters make it sound like they were innocent, but were banned just for the hell of it. I don't think these people are giving the whole truth at all, I bet that they were trying to scam or do some other thing against the rules and that is why they are banned.

Is there anything to discuss? :?

Banning mistakes could happen, that's why they have the ban appeal thingy.

Well to take this in another direction i think that bans should happen more frequently short term bans, not permanent ones. If the person learns the lesson, fine, if he/she doesn't he/she should have his account banned and his/her IP recorded so if he/she should happen to break the rules again he/she would be perma-banned.

Well at least that's what i think.

IP banning... yeah, it would work, but it would work too well. For example, you ban a Library Computers IP. Now nobody can get on that computer for RS. See what i mean?

One of the things i see happening in the community is the lack of respect for everyone else among the majority of the people. If getting them banned will get them out of your face and out of 'your' training area, then so be it.

I would be the first to advocate a perma-ban system if they ever found a way to stop that person from evermaking characters again... lets say... after 3-4 banned chars? But unfortunately, it won't happen for a while.

As to answer the original question... there is always another side to stories. You can't expect the person who is telling it from the aggrieved side to tell it if the story blames them will you?

I don't think IP bans will ever work, but they could ban by email or use a cookie. Basically a computer that has a certain cookie could never have accounts created on it. However, computers with many "real" accounts created on it (library) won't get this cookie. Ever.

You do know that cookies can be deleted?

And you can make a new email address.

Well yes cookies could be deleted.

And make so that it doesn't accept "fake" e-mails, ya know, like the ones with yahoo msn or gmail. Unless you wanted to change your internet providers e-mail adress every time you wanted to make a new account.

What I meant is, are the people who are being banned on a "fluke" mistake, or have they scammed someone and then tried to make themselves look innocent. Now that I think about it this wouldn't be the greatest discussion, so I guess just continue with better banning methods. :)

Bans happen for a reason. Mostly I see it on people's "noob" accounts, so they don't risk getting their mains banned but it can happen anyway. Jagex does not ban their accounts for minor infractions, so if a player is banned, you know that they were not a good addition to the Runescape community.

Well, I don't know about the frequency of bans, but I do know one thing.

Generally, people--anywhere, everywhere--think the rules are for everyone except for them, and will not let themselves be proven wrong. Read the newspapers any day of the week, and you'll see what I mean. Logically, why shouldn't this mindset extend into the RPGs people play?

get banned, make new character and pay for p2p again. more money for jagex.....all i got to say.

Yea, everyone is scare this day being ban for no stupid reason lol. You did something wrong and your so scare that you would be per. ban.

There might be mistake, but I don't think Jagex would ever do such thing, banning innocent players :P .

Yeah, people getting banned unfairly is an everyday thing...

Andrew probably wakes up one morning, has breagfast, then goes to see who would be mostly pissed to be banned.

I guess that means I'm the thread Terminator?

No Tip.Iters were harmed in the making of this post.

As more people play rs, there are bound to be more rule breakers in the game but on the other hand as the population of rs accumulates, there are also to be more mistakes every once in a while. Compare rs when it first came out to how it is now, very few rule breakers and it was like a small family or community playing the game. When more people came into the game, players started creating autoers or just become vulgar in language etc...

May i say i was one of those unfairly banned characters tyvm.

After 3 months they read my appeal and the ban was released with apologies from jagex. So yea it happens and it shux when it happens.

They should check better before banning

IP banning is for n00blets, any [bleep], jane, tom and harry can get past an IP ban.

Jagex went down with their customer service.

I was reported for abuse, when I didn't do anything..

They gave me 2.5 blackmarks

Which isn't too bad, but I appealed it...AND I GET [bleep]ING [cabbage] automessaged from them 2 [bleep]ing minutes later saying they have "conclusive evidence I was in control of the account"

1) No one has conclusive evidence that anyone was in control of an account, unless they were right behind them watching them actually do something wrong. You may argue about IP...but your wrong, don't even argue with me, check on the internet why you are wrong.

2)Their automessage statement had nothing to do with my appeal option...and how lame is that 3 options of appeal? My appeal really didn't fit properly into either of them.

And we all know that Jagex doesn't respond to an appeal within 2 minutes. Hence I was automessage...with a reply that had nothing to do with my appeal in the first place.

WHICH IS BALLS.

Good day.

Banning mistakes happen but not often.

Mostly the author of the thread leaves some things unsaid about why he/she was banned.

mhd7k3.jpg

Some people get banned becasue they have done something wrong, but sometimes (NOT often, like 1 in 50 000 times) banning misstakes is made.
