punk4ever
I have been having this problem the last couple of weeks and I can't for the life of me figure it out. I have Opera (9.02) and it has always run just fine for me. However, the past couple of weeks, after Opera has been turned on for a few hours, my laptop fan begins to whir incredibly loud, as though my laptop is overheating and it was going into overdrive to cool it down. Whenever I exit Opera after that, almost immediately, the fan goes back to normal volume and everything seems okay. Is there anything I could do to fix this? I am currently running on Windows XP (SP2), with Opera v.9.02. My laptop is a Toshiba Satellite R25. I have run my own virus scanners and come up with nothing. Here is my Hijackthis log, if it helps: Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1 Scan saved at 8:21:54 PM, on 2/5/2007 Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v7.00 (7.00.5730.0011) Darrel104
Have you checked to make sure the fans are not speeding up because of the increased heat? Maybe it is from lack of airflow because your fans should do that once one of the temp sensors increase above a certain degree, just it shouldn't be needed unless you are playing a intensive game. Does it do that with other programs?
Mercifull
Uninstall Opera and re-install it again from a fresh download. Mercifull <3 Suzi "We don't want players to be able to buy their way to success in RuneScape. If we let players start doing this, it devalues RuneScape for others. Maybe it is from lack of airflow because your fans should do that once one of the temp sensors increase above a certain degree, just it shouldn't be needed unless you are playing a intensive game. Does it do that with other programs? Only with Opera, and I have already done so Mercifull. By The_Jeppoz

Cruiser
I wont directly suggest Firefox, but Ill hint at it :-w : http://www.ie7.com Linking to IE7 is hinting at using Firefox? :? Please step away from your computer and rip the plug from the wall. ---------- Does the fan issues appear on static HTML pages (No flash/dynamic junk)? Is Opera using any funky amount of CPU time after those few hours? :? Flash ads for example running constantly could be using enough CPU time to cause it to heat up. Just a wild guess since nobody else has asked or has any other ideas.

Cruiser
If you're going to link someone to Firefox, just use the damn Mozilla website. Linking to some stupid IE7 domain is just a waste of time. If you're replying to a thread, you should be trying to HELP, not trying to be funny be linking to a worthless image.

My laptop is 1.6 gHz with 1 GB of RAM, where Opera takes about 60,000K of memory on average. By The_Jeppoz

alexrider1234
Do you put your laptop on your knees when using it? If it's not on a table it should be on a piece of wood so that the fans can blow the warm air out, if they can't it will overheat and the fans will go faster. Causing it after a long length of time to break. RSN: dbferrariLevel:

Militaris
Your computer is easily capable of running Opera and there is no reason for it to be overheating. I tried a google search and did not find a few similar problems but no real answers. I am thinking that for some reason the computer keeps on wanting to access the hard-drive which is causing the whirling sound. I can really only suggest two things. 1) Install Opera 9.1 , there has been a few changes made which might help. 2) Ask this question on the Opera forum. Someone there might be able to help http://my.opera.com/community/forums/

I never considered it being the hard drive, but that's a possibility. By The_Jeppoz

Ive got this attachment for my laptop that blows cool air into the laptop and excreets the warm air through fans on the side PLAYER QUEST: The Spoils of War
Celt23
sorry for off-topicness but i'm looking at using different web browsers and was wondering why you think opera i better than firefox or IE7 Just try it and see if you like it. It's a good browser and has many of the same features as FF and IE + a few unique ones.
adam_ross0
I've never used Opera, but my best suggestion is to prop your Laptop up with something. Let the bottom have some air beneath it for a while to cool off. If a Laptop gets too warm, the fans will start going faster..you could have a problem from that. If anything, just exit out of everything, put it in sleep mode or whatever, and let it cool off.
