February 13, 200719 yr 1 of the fans on my laptop has stopped working. Is there any way to fix this easily, or should I just get a laptop cooling pad? And could anyone reccomend one? Thanks!
February 13, 200719 yr You'll need to get it fixed/replaced asap. A cooling pad will not sufficiently cool your laptop down and you could cause serious damage due to overheating. The laptop dates back to 2001, would it be worth it at all to have it fixed, or just get something new with vista on it?

February 13, 200719 yr Taking it to BestBuy will cost you an arm and a leg to have fixed. You're better off just buying a new one and moving your data over. BestBuy and 'GeekSquad' are already insanely overpriced when it comes to basic hardware and will charge you even more for the labor to put the fan in.

So basically you're saying that parts and labor would not be worth it because of the cost....yeah....I can get a new Dell for $~500

February 13, 200719 yr If it is just an regular case fan that plugs into a motherboard or fan controller/Powersupply then you could most likely find the correct size at he local computer store.(providing its the fan that isn't working.)

I'm not going and messing around with it, I don't want to take apart multiple computers to see if is the fan itself, or the computer. I think it's the computer.
February 13, 200719 yr If it is making your pc malfuction do you have a guarnte. If so you can take it back on the guarnte. I had the same problem took it in for repair repaired it had it back as good as new within a week. Tif 360 MGC Leaderboard

February 14, 200719 yr If you put it up on fleabay please mention. I'd be interested in trying to buy it then replacing fan. I wonder how hard is it really? After asking the overpriced people, consider just trying (knowing full well you've ahigh chance of messing up) replacing it yourself.

If its the motherboard not providing enough power for it, the entire CPU is busted right there.
February 16, 200719 yr Just something, I recommend you don't get a computer with Vista on it just yet. The reason being, Vista is a new OS, therefore there are some flaws that need fixing. There are so many incompatibility issues right now that you'd be beating your head against the wall well before you had a 'normal' machine. Yeah you could buy Vista now and get some use out of it but a lot of the software out there just doesn't work with it yet.
