February 15, 200719 yr I was just wondering if people agree that "What if' topics are considered spam, and locked. I think they aren't really spam, and some of the locked topics are pretty good and would get alot of positve posts. THIS ISN'T A PETITION TO CHANGE THE RULE. I respect all of TIF's rules, but I don't agree with this one. What do you think? P.S.: Mods, PLEASE don't lock this, I just want to see what people think. Pay it forward!
February 15, 200719 yr have to agree with this one, what if topics can have great discussions, provided they are rational and not totally oblivious to reality
February 15, 200719 yr I myself have never created nor enjoyed reading a "what if thread" (well, I do laugh at the weirdness of some people who make them sometimes)
February 15, 200719 yr The constant flow of what if blah blah blah topics would be extremely annoying. The rule is there for a reason. Denizen of Darkness| PSN= sworddude198
February 16, 200719 yr I believe eliminating the " What If" topics is for the best. I find it annoying reading What if topics. Glad to see the rule was placed on the forums. :)
February 16, 200719 yr I agree with Valerie. Some "What If" topics are okay, but very few. And you can't exactly allow some "What If" topics and not others. - 99 fletching | 99 thieving | 99 construction | 99 herblore | 99 smithing | 99 woodcutting - - 99 runecrafting - 99 prayer - 125 combat - 95 farming - - Blog - DeviantART - Book Reviews & Blog

February 17, 200719 yr Most of the 'What if' topics are of the 'impossible' type. Pretty much a magnet for thoughtless posting.
February 17, 200719 yr What 'what-if' topics? The only one I know of is the 'TIF Con' thread in OT :-?

If we only allowed some what-if topics, I'm sure General P2P/General would be flooded with them and people would leave messages saying "If this isn't a good What If topic, please lock it mods," and it would be up to us to sort through the good and the bad every day.. - 99 fletching | 99 thieving | 99 construction | 99 herblore | 99 smithing | 99 woodcutting - - 99 runecrafting - 99 prayer - 125 combat - 95 farming - - Blog - DeviantART - Book Reviews & Blog
February 17, 200719 yr What 'what-if' topics? The only one I know of is the 'TIF Con' thread in OT :-?That's the truth. Most of them are like "If there was a nuclear bomb and you had a saw and noticed a tree, would you cut it down if you needed wood?" I think the rule is great.

These are great topics... can really get you thinking on what you would do in such a situation.
March 9, 200719 yr Can you consider changing the description from "no what if topics" to refining what types of what-if topics are allowed? A few times I've seen really interesting threads go locked because they discussed hypothetical issues. Maybe rewrite "no what ifs" to "what ifs are only allowed if the thread provides information and prompts intelligent discussion" - or possibly only allow what-if's in the debate forum because the prerequisite for threads there are that they have to be intelligent.
