Ears

You know I was expecting a case study on ears with a topic name like that. Try being a tad more descriptive mate.

Yeah, I'd say try sucking on some hard boiled sweets.

Jolly Ranchers work wonders because they make your mouth water like crazy.

step 1. Take a deep breath.

step 2. Push your nostrils closed with your fingers

step 3. Exhale as hard as you can only through your nose, for as long as you need/can.

step 4. Swallow spit/ chew gum

step 5. Shake head

The pressure inside your head builds up, it can make water some out the sides of your eyes, bubbling, and then air will come out (it doesn't hurt though)

Also this can either stuff up your ears or get rid of the stuffiness. (It's going to make your ears better, because it does the opposite of what you have) The last 2 steps are in case it stuff up yor ears more, but since its newly stuffed up, it should easy to get rid of and take out what you had before.

xvillexvalox got it. The best way to pop your ears is to close your nose and try to exhale as hard as you can through your nose. I used to have ear infections a lot and my doctor told me to pop my ears in that way if they ever got stopped up.

I hope you get to feeling better.

I never could/can do that :? It just freaks me out and hurts a bit :-k Yawning and a few of the others usually do it for me, but to each his own, I suppose.

When I visited the WTC's and Sears Tower my ears popped in the elevators going up. They also popped on a flight to Disney World years ago. :) The pressure change feels so weird. You're suppose to keep your mouth open and breath through your noise, I think, not so sure on the latter.

As previously mentioned, this question revolves around sinuses. The differentiating pressure within your body (Two air cavitys I am aware of are the lungs, and Sinuses) causes pain where the sinuses bulge (_) or buckle )_(

Most people say holding the nose and blowing out is the best. Keep in mind not to use TOO much force, as only steady strong, but not painful, pressure is needed. Too much hurts. Another way, albeit for me difficult, way, is to hold a yawn for extended periods. In my experience, I gent a "noise" in my ear when I yawn Which is necessary to hold the yawning for a long time in order to "pop" my ears- Don't just keep your mouth open alone.

It's important to be relaxed, and not get angry if it won't work. Struggling, makes any attempts worse. Relax, try again later. My saddest Scuba dive (Water pressure causes similar issues) I missed a newly discovered cove as I got excited by the prospect, and was struggling beforehand with a flipper problem/ Mask leakage [Anger].

Edit: MY rambling makes me totally super late

Or you can be like me and gain control over the muscles that pull on that part of your ear. I can pop my ears on will. :) No silly tricks necessary...I can't even describe how I do it tbh. However, it's nice since it works every time no matter what, and it is instant.

Gonpost, it requires equalization of pressure...You sure you don't have some subliminal intake of breathe? You can't "Pop" your ears without adding pressure to your ears (In the form of air). Except of course when you descent because it just naturally releases usually (If it doesn't- Try gum)

@Celt- Ear problems Shtink! :( Sorry to hear you had 'em, but glad to hear you don't atm ::' Nitrogen & Sinuses are evil to the wonderful world of scuba!

No see, when you yawn, you pull on the muscles to allow your ear drums to equalize. I simply don't have to yawn, and I can pull on those muscles farther than you can by yawning, so it's more effective. :) I wish I could explain it to you better...

Nope! I understand ::'...I Think...

But that does let in air. [Or I'll struggle trying accept some way it couldn't]

Or, at least, I suppose it must. When I yawn, I would guess, I stretch that )_( to a |_|, increasing area, and bringing in more air. I do, at some point, have to stop yawning afterall.

Actually, did you have a sinus illness?

Sinus trouble can cause rapid earwax buildup, which can block the canal causing a blocked sensation.

There are earwax kits at any pharmacy that can remove this buildup. It would be a good idea to let a doctor take a look at it first, though.

Please, when you have medical issues, talk to your doctor first. None of us here at TIF are medically trained. Talk to the professional first, please!

It's quite normal sinuses to block and for you to have difficulties clearing them when your sick. In those cases, it is as I said, do not attempt blowing too hard. A doctor is your best bet [As a previous poster mentioned], and would probably offer something such as flonase to release the sinus congestion.

Obviously though, it doesn't seem so bad. But I just oah so love posting on a thread titled so elegantly "Ear"

Sinus pressure is extremely normal. Sinus congestion is a medical condition however and should be looked at. Even if it's only a passing cold, if you get these congestions frequently during colds, it could even mean you have a preexisting sinus problem- My brother did.
