Well not all Muslims agree with and live in the Middle East as you and Tigra may think. There are two kinds of Muslims. Those who do "violent" things that contradict the Qu'ran and those follow it the way it was meant to be. People on these boards seem to think that the violent ones are the majority or that all Muslims are like that. Trix.--quit WoW as of 12/07Thank you 4be2jue for the wonderful sig and avatar!

March 10, 200719 yr Qu'ran references for: Kill all unbelievers I don't have a Qu'ran so I can't actually verify them myself, and even if one or two are mistranslations, that's a lot of references in a book that supposedly promotes peace for fighting and killing. Here are some highlights. Those who believe fight in the cause of God, and those who reject faith fight in the cause of evil. - 4:76 O believers, take not Jews and Christians as friends; they are friends of each other. Those of you who make them his friends is one of them. God does not guide an unjust people. - 5:54 Make war on them until idolatry is no more and Allah's religion reigns supreme - 8:39 O Prophet! Make war on the unbelievers and the hypocrites. Be harsh with them. Their ultimate abode is hell, a hapless journey's end. - 9:73 To be fair, the first 13 years or so of Islam was a fairly peaceful religion, until Muhammad left Mecca and flew to Medina. To deal with contradictions in the Qu'ran, Muslim scholars use the principle of abrogation, whereby later texts and teachings override earlier ones. Sadly then, the violent later texts by that logic displace the peaceful earlier ones. "Da mihi castitatem et continentam, sed noli modo"

March 10, 200719 yr I really don't consider myself to be anti muslim, but when the Qur'ran says that "kill all infidels" and people say oh its not the religion that brings about harm, its the interpretations, i get mad. "If thy brother, the son of thy mother, or thy son, or thy daughter, or the wife of thy bosom, or thy friend, which is as thine own soul, entice thee secretly, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which thou hast not known, thou, nor thy fathers;" (Deuteronomy 13: 6) "Thou shalt not consent unto him, nor hearken unto him; neither shall thine eye pity him, neither shalt thou spare, neither shalt thou conceal him: But thou shalt surely kill him; thine hand shall be first upon him to put him to death, and afterwards the hand of all the people." (Deuteronomy 13:8-9) Are there christians who converted to other religions? Yes. Are there muslims who converted to other religions? Yes. It is a matter of intepretation, whether you choose to intepret a book literally and judge somebody to death is the choice of the country or the person deciding the judgement. Other religions are fairly peaceful; Most problems stem from the two major religions, christianity and islam. Not because of their violent histories, but also because of the dangerousness of some of the texts both parties claim to be "holy" or "divine". Repeat "killing infidels is the will of God" hundreds of times a day, hear it since your first breath, and you'll start believing it. These are dangerous beliefs and it's up to your parents to choose to make you a normal person or alternatively a religious extremist.

March 11, 200719 yr Whoa whoa, the Qu'ran seriously doesn't say that exactly does it? I mean, it's not even written as if it were a true religion. "Wage war until Allah's religion rules supreme"? Does that not sound like an order from man, not from a God? A God would say "Hey, my religion is the only right one." not up and say "Fight until mine IS the right one." Can't believe thats the second biggest religion in the world. The damn Qu'ran was written in the 1500's and is OBVIOUSLY modeled after the story of Jesus...Why do people believe this crap? At least the Bible is SOMEWHAT less ridiculous. ...But still ridiculous. I can explain that, actually. It's not a strictly spiritual reason, but an ecological one. Traditionally, the peoples from whom the Abrahamic religions originated occupied an area with scarce resources and stiff competition for water and arable land. Those sorts of conditions foster a need within each separate society to be naturally wary of strangers and competitive with other tribes, often in violent ways. Consider that it is much easier to persuade skeptical people within one's tribe or town, if you will, to take up arms against rival tribal units and city-states when one presents a "divine" decree. Bear in mind that the vast majority of people would not have been able to quickly grasp, and with fervour, the concept of an ecological reason to make war and seize land and livestock. Thus, a "spiritual" reason would be in no small part useful as a rallying point for disparate peoples in times of need. This applies not only to war, but other things as well - ethical values in society, manner of dress, relationship with one's parents, et al. Do I go around personally insulting every atheist I see? Nope. I learn to live with the good ones. Maybe you should live happily with the good Muslims. You are free to hate whoever, but judge them individually by their actions. Thats because the aetheists dont piss anyone off. They dont force their religion upon others,( if you want to call it a religion) and they dont wage "holy wars" to rid the world of all the sinners. We have nothing to believe in so we have nothing to fight against. Now i know some people judge by groups, aka stereotypes, but think about it. If a group of people following the same religion do something stupid BASED upon the religion, then you can assume everyone will because their religion WANTS them to do it. How is that flawed? Now people who DONT do that ARENT following their religion. Thus when i make generalities it doesnt apply to them because they dont follow that religion. If people want to follow part of a religion, they should find a better one that isnt associated with killing all infidels and unbelievers. Everybody lovin' it, but ain't no body touchin' it
March 11, 200719 yr Kill disbelievers wherever you find them. If they attack you, then kill them. Such is the reward of disbelievers. and Perfected is the Word of thy Lord in truth and justice. There is naught that can change His words. He is the Hearer, the Knower. The word of Allah is that killing is ok. If you do not believe that then you are not a Muslim because the Qu'ran is THE word of god and is infallible. All Muslims who follow the Qu'ran condone such acts of violence, slavery and torture and its all written down "There is no changing the Words of Allah" (10:64) That is not misquoting or selective quoting that is two passages that were easy to get which were clear in clarity and could not be misinterpreted. Do I go around personally insulting every atheist I see? Nope. I learn to live with the good ones. Maybe you should live happily with the good Muslims. You are free to hate whoever, but judge them individually by their actions. Try to look at it from an atheist's perspective though. We look around, and see all the religion, all the misinformation about fundamentalism, interpretations and the like. You're right, we live amongst and respect the good muslims, and christians, and jews and all others, but not because of their religion. We judge them by the content of their character, not by their religious beliefs. We wonder what the potential of these people would be if they weren't held back by religion, we wonder how many lives might have been saved without religion, we wonder how much better the world might be without not only fundamentalism and extremism, but without moderate religion, without the indoctrination of children before they can make up their minds, without the segregation of men and women for no other reason than an ancient scripture says so. We wonder what the world might be like if unquestionable faith wasn't taught to be a virtue, and something to be automatically respected. So, forgive us when we seem irate and aggressive, forgive us when we become frustrated and angry and throw quotes and facts at you to try and curb the spread of misinformation. We mean well, we really do. Some may feel sorry for us, living without god, but please don't, because we have come to appreciate the amazement and wonder of the world as it is. The world suddenly becomes a lot more beautiful, and life so very precious when you realise that this is all we have. We live our lives for the world, not for an afterlife. We just wish others would join us. "Da mihi castitatem et continentam, sed noli modo"
