May 25, 200719 yr Oh please, both teams were even on the night. Just like two years ago when Liverpool 'beat' Milan. What comes around goes around. They were robbed two years ago in a mighty tight clash - this time it was you. But Liverpool certainly did not deserve to win, lucky goal or no lucky goal. I hope Rafa realises that going for the Champions League exclusively, neglecting the League runs the risk of not actually geting ANY trophies. I'm getting a bit annoyed with Liverpool fans start saying they're the best team in Europe when they can't even be 2nd in their own domestic league! | Favourite Game Music | Last.fm | HYT Friend Chat Rules |
May 25, 200719 yr Im getting annoyed at Man Ure saying they are the best team in Europe when they cant even come 2nd in Champions League :-k
May 25, 200719 yr The football keeps on coming though! This bank holiday weekend sees the football league play-offs in England, which are always cracking games. Be sure to watch them if you're near a TV. Personally I'll be rooting for Blackpool and Derby, but I'm going to enjoy it for sure. Scottish Cup final on Saturday. Celtic - Dunfermline The Pars will be up for this one so it might not be a walk over you might expect. Woohoo! I was born in dunfermline! :). Live in England now though.
May 25, 200719 yr Im getting annoyed at Man Ure saying they are the best team in Europe when they cant even come 2nd in Champions League :-k I suppose they will have to settle with being the best team in England then.

May 25, 200719 yr The best team in Endland would do the double. No the best team would the team that comes out on top after playing 38 games over 10 months.

May 25, 200719 yr the best team at the moment: Man U the best team in the future: Arsenal the team that will become terrible after their main funder pulls out: Chelsea Couldn't agree more. Arsenal v Man Utd will be a real close one to watch in the future, especially as the future looks kinda (excuse the terrible pun) blue for Chelsea with Putin falling out of favour with Mr. Big Bucks himself. The sad fact is Liverpool could be the best team in the future if they focused on their youth programs and went for the league instead of trying to win 18 matches a season in Europe. I'll happily admit as a United fan that Liverpool are the most successful team in English football History - but that's when they focused on building a team around their area. As for the comments about United fans thinking they're the best team in Europe, did you hear our fans walking out of the game at Milan? We admited we'd lost fair and square, as did Chelsea when they lost to Liverpool. We both had other things to worry about - the league and the cup. UEFA would have just been a sweet bonus, but not the aim of our season. And Phil, so so true. Liverpool and Arsenal are miles behind Chelsea and Man Utd as far as I'm concerned. The final table reflects that. | Favourite Game Music | Last.fm | HYT Friend Chat Rules |

I think that our season is timed wrong, and we play the final stages of UEFA when we're at our most tired, and that showed with all three English teams in the last four. Also, given the state of Italian football, AC Milan aren't really looking all that stable, and at the end of the day, you have to stable to be good long-term. | Favourite Game Music | Last.fm | HYT Friend Chat Rules |

May 25, 200719 yr I think Barcelona, Real Madrid, AC Milan and Inter Milan are all on their day better than Man U and Chelsea..but i guess you can say it both ways. I think player for player the premier league would not be on top. messi - Messi kaka - Kaka A friend to all is a friend to none.
May 25, 200719 yr ^ Well the obvious counter to that would be it's not about the individual players. Kaka is an example of sheer grace compared to Rooney or Gerrard, but is he a part of a better team? | Favourite Game Music | Last.fm | HYT Friend Chat Rules |

May 25, 200719 yr As mentioned in my other post, I think that part of the reason Liverpool lost was because of the timing of the season. Instead of playing UEFA when we're on top form, we play the most important fixtures at the end of the season when we're shattered. Also, Liverpool aren't the best team in England. Fact. So who's to say Chelsea or Man Utd wouldn't have done better if they'd not have had other priorities? | Favourite Game Music | Last.fm | HYT Friend Chat Rules |

The biggest question is whether they can get to the level of Pele, or Zidane. I put Zidane in their just to show that goal to be honest, he's not in the same league as Pele or Maradona but in the second tier of great players with Di Stefano, Cruyff etc. in my opinion. (I love the slo mo and Once upon a time in America theme music even if it slightly takes away the beauty of Maradona's goal) He who learns must suffer, and, even in our sleep, pain that cannot forget falls drop by drop upon the heart, and in our own despair, against our will, comes wisdom to us by the awful grace of God. - Aeschylus (525 BC - 456 BC)

It's not just the premier league who plays 38+ games a season it's all the major leagues so you can't blame tiredness, nearly all teams in the top flight play the same ammount of games more or less. + I am sure Liverpool had other priorities, it's just they failed to achieve them. BTW who said Liverpool were the best team in England? A friend to all is a friend to none.

Would Pele and Maradona cope in todays more advanced, faster and generally more physically demanding games? I'm positive that Pele would ..but Maradona...am not so sure... since the marking and closing down of space is much more advance today. A friend to all is a friend to none.

I'm positive that Pele would ..but Maradona...am not so sure... since the marking and closing down of space is much more advance today. You're forgetting that players nowadays are alot better protected by the rules and referees. If you look at a lot of old football clips and see the challenges that were allowed you'd be horrified. On top of that the old offside rule was so favourable to defences. Plus your forgetting Maradona only retired in '97 its barely even 10 years ago (he played pro until 97 with Boca). If you reckon Maradona can't deal with marking you should see footage of him playing Italy in th 1982 world cup ( I had a tape on VHS), Gentile pratically stalked Maradona (while kicking holes in him). He practically dragged Argentina to the 1986 world cup - even Pele couldn't do that (he was in 3 winning teams alongside greats like Garrincha, Rivelino, Tosao, Jairinho etc.) He who learns must suffer, and, even in our sleep, pain that cannot forget falls drop by drop upon the heart, and in our own despair, against our will, comes wisdom to us by the awful grace of God. - Aeschylus (525 BC - 456 BC)

However I don't doubt that Maradona had awesome talent and with todays training facilities he would make a fine player. However i do doubt that would reach the ranks of Ronaldinho.. EDIT: Just read Wiki article on offside and it was stricter back in the day :-w A friend to all is a friend to none.

Basically you are a glory hunter and should support PNE.

I suppose so, but if you watch the old clips you also see players are overweight, drinking beer :D Even Maradona looks overweight, and he took drugs ... Yes towards his end of career he was overweight because of drink and drugs, but at his peak he wasn't. You have to remember he was a larger build than the normal footballer. Much like say Tevez or Rooney is today.
May 26, 200719 yr The best team in Endland would do the double. No the best team would the team that comes out on top after playing 38 games over 10 months. QFT. Also, could you imagine Pele now? 40 years on with better balls, better boots, better protection (ever watch him being treated in the world cup 66? It's shocking), we wouldn't be able to cease talking about him This is how much you all raised for charity. Thank you.
