RuneScape Information

  1. It's funny how in the BTS thread I said that this was probably the focus of the update as opposed to high level content and everyone thought I was an idiot.
  2. Has anyone even stopped to consider that the smithing update might be a precursor to a high level smithing update in the future? Perhaps jagex wants future high level content to be more accessibly to players, and decided to introduce more ways to train it than blowing huge sums of money on addy plates, making ~50k exp/hr at caverns, or depending on other players in the blast furnace? They never said this was THE BIG HUGE HIGH LEVEL REVAMP, so maybe calm down and stop acting like the RSOF? Seriously, this community is so mature outside of these threads, its ridiculous to see everyone bashing an update that they know next to nothing about for reasons that don't even make sense when you stop and think for a minute. When jagex is about to release a revamp to smithing (just like for herblaw), they'll make it very obvious. I see the smithing update as a much needed change of pace for training, and will personally use it as an opportunity to prepare for whatever future smithing content jagex releases.
  3. DirectX option should not exist if you're running OS X. DirectX how windows handles graphics, you should be using OpenGL. In your home directory, try removing the jagex_runescape_preferences.dat file, and then reload runescape. I'm not expecting that to change things, but check to be sure. Also make sure you're up to date with with your OS, driver updates do exist for OS X despite common belief, they're just bundled inside version updates. If you've been holding off on 10.6.6, or anything earlier, now might be the time to update. If you're up to date with your OS, check to make sure your browser is up to date as well. Safari and Chrome in OS X have been known to have issues with Java and particularly Runescape (obviously, they both run off webkit), so if you're not using Firefox for RS now may be the time to change. Failing all that, submit a bug report and dual boot into win7. You can also always try downdating your graphics drivers to see if you can get an earlier driver version to work, but I would avoid that if you can because its a hassle you probably don't want to deal with. Also lol at the people in this thread who think they understand enough about computers to dismiss an entire operating system. Have fun being ignorant, pigheaded, and close-minded <3.
  4. I feel like people are over-reacting to this a little. Jagex has to offer you the option, it isn't like everyone can just go pay $5 for their account back. There are plenty of people who legitimately play the game, get tempted into bottom or something else that breaks the rules, and permanently lose their account. I almost lost mine a few years ago in a situation just like this; thankfully they accepted the appeal, but I would have been equally satisfied to pay a small cash sum for my account back (either way you can believe I learned my lesson). IMO people who are offered this solution by jagex will probably be people who's appeal demonstrated genuine regret for their actions, and won't be breaking rules again. The people that we need to worry about are the botters who will just move on to the next account, not the genuine players who make a mistake and potentially lose their account because of it. With the combination of stat and bank wipes, it seems like Jagex has all the bases covered here. Anyone screaming that jagex has "sunk so low" here needs to actually think about things for a minute. This doesn't change the game in any way other than to give people a second chance. So what if jagex wants to make some money off of it? I think it should be pretty obvious by now that jagex makes a much more genuine attempt than just about any other MMO to offer their services as cheaply as possible, so why get all uppity when they introduce an optional feature which affects the game in almost no way?
  5. So is this a borderline confirmation that we are still getting a smithing update and it wasn't all those dungeoneering armors? I was about to comment on this, I really hope it is. Was wondering what had happened to the big smithing re-work they mentioned so long ago.
  6. I've met plenty of new players who have politely asked for me to explain something (albeit in less than perfect grammar), don't let your long play time make you pessimistic :D I completely disagree with the OP. Bless people's graves? Remove risk from wildy? Did you not play before 2007? When there WERE no graves, and everyone knew full well what kind of risk going into the wildy for something other than pking was. When you go somewhere dangerous, there is always the risk of dying. Players who die for any reason knew these risks and took them anyway. Why shouldn't I take their items when they die? This mechanic existed since the inception of runescape and I'm very glad its coming back. Now people will think twice before running off somewhere dangerous wearing half their bank. The kinds of risks you want to eliminate are a lot of what made runescape fun pre-2007. Just because you're used to being able to die whenever you want and know your items are safe doesn't mean we should remove all risk from the game.
  7. Not really how bot detection works, or at least not how jagex should be doing it. When you have computers, there isn't a reason for an actual person to have to sift through reports before assigning a ban; bans should be assigned through automation, and then actual people should check the evidence to determine whether the ban was just or not. Granted I don't have enough knowledge or experience with how jagex deals with bots to tell you this is how they do it, but it is the most logical approach when time is a key factor in preventing botting. I am almost in complete agreement with the OP; people are freaking out for no reason. RWT is still a bannable offense, and botting is an instant permaban. People aren't going to be able to get traded millions of gold for nothing in-game without attracting attention, same as before. Yes botting was pretty rampant prior to the trade restriction update, but anyone who says that bringing free trade back will "ruin the game" is over-reacting. I enjoyed playing for several years before trade restrictions were imposed, and have enjoyed playing afterwards as well. For all the ranting people do about bots, they don't have such a profound effect on the game that it becomes unplayable or even unenjoyable. Sure skilling will be less profitable, but that isn't really because of botting; risk-free money making will always be less rewarding than activities that involve risk. Besides, I can't remember a time past midway through rs1 that you could make a legitimate profit through skilling anyway (outside of high level rc).
  8. Hmmm, the name I want (1wingedangel (with an i)) is on there. hpoefully he changes everyones names so I can get it lmfao.
  9. Dear god I lol'd so hard when I saw his necklace.
  10. Just a note on the sentinels for anyone who hasn't fought them already: Get both of them to attack you, then stand on top of one of them and range the other. Once the first one is dead, melee the second with Balmung.
  11. Haha, well played. Yea, hoodies with skill symbols is a great idea imo. skill cape hoodies and you have to log onto the store with your rs account and only can buy one if your account has that 99 As amazing as this idea is (and trust me, its amazing), I feel like the skill icons are too plain/low-res to be on the back of a hoodie. What I really want to see is hoodies with JUST god symbols on them. I feel like zip-up hoodies with the symbol on the upper-left chest area would be amazing. Pretty much like the early hoodie they had, minus the huge trollface on the back. It's simple, the symbols look badass, and theres no flashy JAGEX RUNESCAPE stuff with it (which they did a good job of removing this time around). Also the "my other shirt is trimmed" is awesome, I may have to get it even if I don't intend on wearing it around when I go out for fear of people asking about it.
  12. 300k an hour is nothing at green dragons. I could easily make ~500k an hour when d bones were worth a lot less than they are now. Not that its the best money making method, but its certainly a nice change of pace. I'd say keep up your personal kingdom, farm toadflax a few times a day, and couple those with some money making activity (slayer is not a money-making activity in terms of gp/hr). If you're getting money in with dragon slaying, go with the dfs, otherwise BCP and the whip+defender combo is great for general combat (assuming again that this is how you're making money). Also, the guys telling you not to buy one piece of armor until you can afford all of them are assuming you're utilizing your cash pile to make even more money (IE some form of merchanting, or buying large amounts of raw resources to process for a profit, such as pure ess to nature runes). If you're not doing that (I recommend you do those things though), then go ahead and buy your gear piece by piece. On a final note, get rid of the sara sword. It's not really useful for much (killing waterfiends comes to mind as an exception), and the dragon scimitar+defender combo will do you just as well for a fraction of the cost.
  13. 1. i regeret to inform you that i be the only one who hit a 199 *highest hit* with range :( didnt screenie btw turkeys cant hurt you so why hp low Yeah they can hurt you.. they hurt me. They hit me a few times, and I have 99 defense <.<
  14. +1 on this. Also, scAIRed, bel-AIR. The -are- in scared being the emphasized syllable makes it a perfectly valid rhyme with -air. Miscellania...has nothing that could even remotely be slanted or mispronounced to rhyme with scared, there, etc etc. If it had actually rhymed like the song I might have smiled a little, but as it is "this use couldn't be more forced if he shouted DESU DESU ROW ROW FITE DA POWAA LULZ YO DAWG I HERD U LIEK MUDKIPZ RIKROLEDD."
  15. My stats were also reset :/ I think it has something to do with the fact that for a while after the move to rs2 you could still play rs1 but with your stats reset. Shame too, I'm not too hot on rebuilding my character.
