mouse jerking up

Since a while ago, my mouse would sometimes start jumping to the top of the screen (the pointer, not the actual mouse you move with your hand), and after a few restarts would go into hibernation and i wouldn't see it do so for a while. I always thought it wasjust my mouse, but i got a new one a few days ago, and right now it keeps on jumping to the top of my screen, making it really really hard to do anything. Can someone help me out with this problem?

Thanks, stan

I was thinking your mouse was dirty, but then I read you got a new mouse...

Are you using a mousepad? If not, it could be the surface you are using the mouse on.

How often? Mine periodically (10 mins or so) jumps to a random corner of the screen. Mine is not a virus.

yea i am using a mousepad, i also tried without a mousepad and the same thing happens

@Herr: it depends, since it either starts or doesn't start when i turn on my computer. If its one of the startups that makes my mouse jump, it happens constantly (every 5 or so seconds it jumps to the top)

That's very strange. The only time my mouse ever *jumps* is when my mouse rollers are dirty, or whatever you call them (yes, I still use a mouse with a ball, I cba to get a new optical mouse).

I just take the ball out, clean the gunk off, put it back in and I'm good to go. I have to do it about once a week.

I can't figure out what your problem could be. :x

My logitech mouse used to do the same thing, then I got a Micro Optical mouse, and it hasn't done it. I think it's concerning the way the harddrive was made. I thought that the laser wasn't correctly secured, which made it think I was moveing the mouse, when I wasn't.

Okay apparently no one has an answer....

If you guys are all using laser or optical mice, ocasionally a bit of dirt or dust will cross into the beam of the laser, and as it floats on past it, it causes your pointer to dart across the screen. There is nothing you can really do about it, you can't clean it because it isn't actually dirty.

Another thing I might suggest is that if your using a laser or optical mouse, don't use any red wood surfaces. Somehow or another it interferes with the laser and can send back faulty info causing your mouse to go bezerk (my friend's mouse would suddenly go straight down and then spin in circles for a few minutes) You can always get a special mouse pad designed for laser mice which will help reflectthe beam alot stronger.

Mine sometimes does it at work and when i look at the mouse theres a tiny hair thats gotton next to the laser thing. Just give it a good blow to clear out the dust/hair and consider getting a glass mouse mat or something.

what kind of mouse pad is it maby??

i heard that the metally ones can affect it but try cleaning the mouse out with a can of compressed air or something even blowing it is all u need or if theres alot of dust around like said b4 that could be affecting it.
