Gallery Index, A question for you?

Has your gallery deep in the gallery forum. Like the blogscape index, IMO, there should be a Gallery Index. Not many people make gallerys, but this could encourage them to make one. It would de-clutter the gallery to. Then people could check if they're favorite artist, etc. Has made a gallery/updated it.

It would certainly de-clutter the Gallery, making more room for single-artwork-C/C-threads. :)

Something to consider while posting: would you guys be willing to start compiling all of your artwork in one thread, or would you prefer to create a new one every couple of days/weeks just to show off your latest piece (as most people currently do).

Because the only way I could see this working is if more people actually considered creating one thread to display their 'galleries.' Otherwise we wouldn't have enough threads to create an index.

That is certainly true.

I personally would prefer having all my artwork in one big thread, but I think a lot of people don't.

Well it would be a good idea to update a single post, but alot of members here make artwork they are prepared to post quite infrequently.

As a result, the original topic gets lost in backpages for all time, so we have no choice but to make a new topic.

It'd be good for the frequent artists though.

I know I personally tend to create single threads for my pieces, for a few reasons:

1. I don't make pixels often nowadays, so it's a bit of a waste of time as it'll just die off. :| Unless you spit out a pixel every week or whatever, a gallery is slightly pointless.

2. I certainly don't have enough presentable ones (in my opinion) to create a decent gallery. :P At most there'll probably only be three or four there - all the other ones are pixels that I think simply aren't up to my standards, or ones I just never bothered finishing.

3. I tend to post WIPs in my one pixel = one thread threads, and I prefer getting feedback as I go along, as it's easier to edit things that seem off or whatnot if you have all the feedback for that one pixel in one place.

I also find that I personally look at one piece = one thread threads more often, and give more constructive criticism on those specialised threads, probably because I have one piece to concentrate on instead of twenty or whatever. I dislike having to go through all the old comments in galleries and whatnot, and trying to find the latest piece, etc etc. But again, if you churn out a new piece often, go right ahead and make a gallery.

We may also have the problem of old threads where the artist has left the forums, but their thread is still being bumped/whatever even though they've gone. Granted, your work will be shown off to the newbies, but personally resurrected threads just don't sit well with me, and I'm not sure how people react to old threads being bumped up - the General board tends to be against resurrecting threads, but of course, The Gallery is far and away not the Gen board. :)

I myself will not make a gallery for the reasons above (I've turned down enough pixel requests to realise that I simply don't have enough time to pixel much anymore >< ). I don't pay much attention to galleries in The Gallery, to be honest (ironic, isn't it? :P). As Trip said, if there are more people willing to create galleries, go right ahead and make that index, but otherwise, just bump your thread every so often. The Gallery goes slow enough for a bump now and then, instead of one every day.

I've made a few galleries, with the only problem being that no one replies to mine and they die. I prefer to have one single gallery for all my images, and I would make one if the index was made. :)

I think this is a good idea, so you meen an index just like contests and battles, and the art bazaar?

It would give me a place to place my photos, without keeping it bumped. I would say yes, it would give way more posts and CC then a normal Gallery would.

The only problem I can see with this is that putting all your images into one gallery would be a dial-ups worst nightmare, atleast for galleries of photographers.

Also I don't know if I like the idea very much because when you post a new topic with your new art, people are more likely to see that you have new stuff, where as with a single gallery, people might lose track of the last time you updated and so on.

That's why it's a good idea, to keep all those separate and away from 56k'ers.

Do you we should make this topic? Maybe I could create it then a moderator could sticky it. That's so I can help putting some inside the main post.

No people on the forum are immature enough to do that, especially those who come to the gallery. I'll be checking every URL in case they do, now you said that.

I have been around Tip.It for about a year, and I have seen very few people like this, so it wouldnt be to bad, I understand what you mean though. I just thought because of Viruses on those sites, so when you check the sites, scan for Viruses immediatly.

Ill upload some pics my mom took later on, and I hope they make an Index :D

I can do what ever I need to to help in order to get this off if others want it to happen. ie start collecting urls of gallerys, but I need the official word on if its going to happen before I do anything.

If this happens, it would be a locked sticky that users PM the link to a Gallery Mod which then adds the gallery to the index.

I was just thinking their Gallery... Just a bit like the blogscape one, where they put the name of their gallery and the link in a code and it would be arranged.

and graphics

or just a big gallery with sub forums =P~

Though i'd bump this since galleries are quite big now so people can say what they think.
