Dreams - post/share
I always find it really weird when I get a dream that I don't understand. The story lines to my dreams might be totally out of lunch, but I can pretty much always figure out where certain elements or things that happen in my dreams come from. For example, I was watching some Andromeda last week, and yesterday I somehow ended up watching an episode of pokemon, and last night I managed to combine the two into one of the most ridiculous dreams I have ever had (it also had cut away scenes because if your going to dream about a TV show, I guess your dream might as well look like your watching one too). I also feel like I had a dream about fixing my messy hair, which I only mention because looking at yourself in a mirror is a pretty sure way to realise your dreaming. Your mind has a lot of trouble creating an image of you in a mirror, which I guess tends to lead to it either being distorted, out of focus, or someone else entirely. This means I would have almost certainly been dreaming in the 3rd person, which made me think of something else: Why can I dream in the 3rd person, and see myself accurately, when its supposed to be impossible to see an accurate reflection of yourself while dreaming. I feel like both tasks would pose the same challenge. This leads me to a realization. I don't think I have ever seen my own face, or even a proper front view of myself, while dreaming in the 3rd person. It is always above/behind like it would be in a video game. Since I can't see myself from behind in the real world, I wouldn't be able to tell if I dream it right or not, because I have no comparison. I can dream up anything with roughly the right features (meaning the right length and colour hair) and assume its me. In all the instances where I think I might have gotten a look at myself head on in a dream (I don't know for sure, because I never thought it was a detail worth noting or remembering), I don't think I was dreaming about myself (I'm not always the focus of, or in, my dreams). I'll have to pay attention to this in the future.

The snow normally manages to wait till after Halloween here in NS, but I think you guys in NB get it more than we do, cause your not as moderated by the ocean. I hate it when we get snow before Halloween, because that normally means a cold one, and most costumes aren't exactly designed for warmth.

I have no objection to the cold, and I love snow that's not in my driveway or on the sidewalk in front of my house, but I do object fairly heavily to being cold. When I was younger, some of the best fun I would have all year would be bundling up in a full snowsuit, sometimes with a facemask and google, and sledding down the hill behind our house that goes down to the lake. It's en epic hill, at something around 70-80 ft start to finish, with a 90 degree turn right at the top where you start (we have a rock pile that we would cover, and make a starting ramp into a banked turn using hay bales), and a 110 degree turn at the bottom, starting about 25 ft above sea level (which we also tried to make banked when there was enough snow, since otherwise you often went flying off the track into the trees). Some great times on that hill, like the time it was a solid sheet of ice top to bottom and getting back up was a 30 minute trip, on your chest, with the sled tied to one of your feet. Or setting up jumps on the main stretch and then trying to get enough weight on one side to pull through the bottom turn, only to fit another bump and go flying off the track and head up head first in the snow drift (this was what the googles and face mask were for. This and the frequent mini blizards in the bottom turn). Or maybe you just hit or bounce off a tree. Also a huge fan of downhill skiing. I've been skiing since I was 3 or 4, and I just love it. The ski hills within driving range aren't very big, but they still have some fun spots. Theres a really nice run on one hill where if you take the final stretch at speed and pull your skis up over the final steep section, you can actually stay about a foot off the snow down almost the whole thing, which is a good 30ft fall, and the landing is pretty easy. Now I want to go sledding and skiing.

Loyalty Points Glitch - Nov 21
I agree with this, but I also don't think its worth losing members over either. I'd ban them for a few weeks at least, and remove their loyalty rewards. All of them.

Kind of reinforces the theory that guys (straight or gay) care more about physical appearance than women do. I think another part of it is that girls seem to have more varied tastes than guys do. I find that most guys tend to have very similar tastes, where girls seem to be all over the map in general. So he might be getting hit on by the same number of girls, but they might not all be the same ones.

Anyone hacked lately?
Never. I haven't written down a pass in years. Instead, I have a system for making my passes that makes sense for me, but wouldn't to anyone else. As long as I know when I made the pass, I can normally guess what it is in 2 or 3 tries. For really important stuff like RuneScape and my bank account, I have much more spectacular passes that are memorized through sheer repetition. The only exception are my recoveries, which are kept on a memory stick somewhere.I have scrambled recoveries but I have to store them someplace because (a) I never use them, so I have no memory of what they are, and (b)none of them follow my normal pass technique. Their all total gibberish as far as I'm concerned. Apparently I'm not much of a target anyway. I was able to get a jmod to check how often people try to recover my account a month back, and they don't have a single recovery for my account on file (which also means their records aren't complete, since I did forget my pass once after taking a long break). I was actually a tad bit disappointed that people don't try to hijack me, though I don't want to tempt the fates either. One thing I am noticing is that it seems accounts that go inactive are a lot easier to recover, probably because they realized that people who take huge breaks are going to know dick all about their old account info. I'm not even sure I could make a successful recovery, though I do know my first pass (thank god I was using a good one back then, and I don't think I ever used that one here), and I can make a pretty good estimate on my account creation date (I think I can get it down to the month actually). I also keep records of my membership payments on the flash drive with my recoveries. The email my main is registered to is known to like 5 people on this planet, myself included. It's tied to my phone, so I'll always get any notification of someone trying to change it within minutes, and it has a pass that I can't remember most of the time (which I have to deal with every time I get a new computer of phone), because the computer handles it.

Same in Canada. Most 1st and 2nd years at least will stay on Campus, whether or not they live close. The only exceptions are normally people who would have a 10-30 minute commute, and even most of them will stay on Campus is they can afford it. Once people hit their 3rd+ year, they start moving out into the surrounding area, though for at least some programs (like engineering at my school), a lot of people never move out of University accommodations. I'm trying to think of the numbers from my frosh week, since they had us divided up by residence, with off-campus being their own group. The off-campus were the largest group, but not by a whole lot. A little over 400 off, the largest residences were something like 350, 300 and 250, and another 200 or so between the rest of small residences. The off Campus grows by the year, but I doubt more than 35% of the University is off campus students at any one time.

I wonder if I am the only person I know who can use the bathroom in a dream without doing it in real life. It's happened 2 or 3 times in the last 2 weeks I think. I normally wake up about 5 seconds after I start peeing in my dream, probably my bladder is shouting "your about to piss yourself [wagon]!". Each time it happens I think I might have peed, because peeing is one of the sensations my dreams do get spot on, and I can feel it for the first couple seconds after I wake up. But dry as a desert each time :) Since I don't normally need to run for a toilet when I wake up, and I get woken up by the urge to go maybe two times a year tops, I have to wonder if I don't pee in my dreams for some other reason. I'm not sure my bladder is even capable of waking me up at all, at least not until the water works try to get going. I was in the hospital a few years ago on constant IV fluids, and I almost never had to get up to pee. I was fine when I woke up, but if I got out of bed I learned to just head for the toilet because I was going to need to pee like no tomorrow in about 30 seconds, and I doubt it would have ever held for more than a minute. Compliments of measuring all my fluids, the largest pee I have ever had in my life worked out to about 1.2L. If I am already awake, its like a 3rd of that though tops.

Sounds like at least some things are really going your way Tim! I'm very happy for you, cause you've been so sad/frustrated lately. I normally try to keep my music to times when it won't piss everyone else off if they hear it, which normally means middle of the day between classes. If I do it at night I have to see who's home, because two of the bedrooms bellow me are used to study in (my room covers portions of 3 bedrooms, but one of them is never used for studying). Also, people don't mind telling me to shut up when I'm being disruptive.

My accommodations are working out nicely for once. The people in the house this year are a lot quieter and cleaner than the previous sets. A while back, we had a batshit insane neighbour who called the police every time someone sneezed, or went out on the back porch. By the end of the year, at least one person was got hit with I think a $3600 noise complaint (because they double every time). She moved out as soon as she realized black people were living in the house now (well, that's our theory anyway). My room is also a noise bunker. It's built over a low slope rood so the floor is about 2.5ft thick, though the furniture hatch and door at the bottom of my stairs do leak higher pitched noises like yelling. Sorry to hear its not working out for you Racheya. Yeah, most leases are drawn up so that you pretty much have to find a subletter. It would be kinda silly for the landlord not to protect themselves from people walking out at a time when they can't find someone else to take your spot. I know the one for this house takes post dated cheques up front, for the entire term of the lease. The other alternative is going a bit crazy and soundproofing your room with carboard (liquor stores normally have an abundance of boxes they would love to give away if you need carboard). I've thought about doing it around my door a few times, and perhaps over the hatch too, but part of the beauty of falling asleep to the TV is it helps drown out any kind of background hum. Doesn't work if your on the same floor as the party though :(

World 60 penguins
I got into the world after about 10 minutes of waiting (this was only a couple hours after the points doubled). Some of the easiest hunting ever. The penguins were pretty much dead on where the website said they would be, and there was a constant stream of updates in the chat for most of the penguins (I got into a chat without issue, because they opened up a couple extras but I think a lot of people didn't know about that). The only hitch was 3 of the penguins being very close to each other, with two on the loose, and them all looking identical. The chat was having trouble keeping the penguins strait, and one of them constantly went off radar entirely (I found it, and it was tracked for about 3 minutes before another penguins stole its spot and the first one vanished). It was a pretty painless ordeal actually. Even with the queue I was in and out in like 30 minutes. World 71 is probably easier this week, but as a former rank in world 60 (I resined over inactivity, since I found other things I wanted to do), I feel some loyalty to them. They were my first, just like TIF :)

I'd probably transform into the psycho room-mate from hell at 'peed on the floor'. I'd [bleep]ing lose it. Unless they have like a medical condition, but you make it sound like he's just really [bleep]ing lazy. I don't normally do well with roomates for extended periods myself, mostly because I keep really strange hours, sometimes even moving to a multiple sleeps per day model. I also find it soothing to have the TV on when I fall asleep, so its not uncommon for their to be lights or a TV on in my room at night. There aren't very many people who have the ability to fall asleep effortlessly in that kind of environment. Never been a huge fan of sleeping with my day clothes on. You have two options. You can get dressed the night before, which awesome as that is, makes you look like you slept in your clothes. Because you did. So unless you want to take your shirt off every morning to iron it, its a no go. If you wear what your wore all day to bed, then your getting the bed dirty, and you have to wash the sheets more often. I already do this every week, because I grew up with a laundry happy mother. I like my sheets super clean and fresh, though I tend to be on the lazy side for other laundry.

Masking the True Problem
I read all the gold posts on one of the threads that enjoyed sticky status for a few hours on the update day, and MMG (the CEO) talked about how they are actually looking at the root problem, grinding. I don't expect anything to change soon, but I think Jagex might be coming around to the fact that the game is set up in a very frustrating format for people looking to get to the high ground. If they really can take on this problem, more power to them. And yes, the bots might be able to counter the clusterflutter one day, but I've been looking at descriptions of what they actually did, and I think it could take the bot developers even longer to counter it than it took Jagex to program it (10 months or so). And it's not like its the only barrier they plan on throwing up, in a very short period of time. The bots it affected are going to be out of commission for a long time I think. Long enough for Jagex to reformat the game into something a little less monotonous if they so choose.

Happy Halloween
I went to a (very) small high school, and we never stopped dressing up. In fact, the grade 12's we're in charge of the schools haunted house. We did a damn good job of it to. We ended up doing an extra run through for teachers because everyone was saying how awesome it was (and considering we finished building it about 20 seconds before the first run, I think we did way beyond an epic job). We had everything lol. Making people crawl through a narrowing hall until they were on their hands and knees, then they came out by some straw dummies (6 of them, and 3 of them we're real people). I was dressed up in a cloak, a shiny robe meant to look like armour, with a Roman breastplate and full face helmet further down the hall (I would also pretend to be a dummie and just stand up when people approached. Scared the shit out of at least one person doing it too). My job was to steer the group into a side room where the lights would go out and about 8 people would roll out from under benches and attack them. Then I sent them upstairs where a dummie would fly down from the ceiling at them. Up stairs was just a whole bunch of stuff meant to gross people out (I don't remember it well, since I only saw that part once in the whole day). And holy crap was it ever a pain to crawl under that freaking desk with a breast plate on (I had it on all day because you kinda have to jam the back and front together, and once its strapped on the person wearing it can't actually reach all the straps. I didn't trust anyone to be able to get me back into the thing). Now that I am in Uni, Halloween is just going to a party in a cool costume. Then again, its been that ever since I was too old to trick or treat (I would have stopped when I was 13 I think). I had a friend growing up who was never allowed to trick or treat because Halloween was the devils holiday or something. He got a shit load of candy and went bowling instead, but I think he only ever got to go trick or treating once or twice. There will be no staying home to give out candy, not where I live. The place I live in is much to close to the University for anyone to be crazy enough to trick or treat here.

I'm pretty sure the periodic table was created in that structure just for electron configuration, but I'm not sure. Pretty much. Electronic configuration essentially dictates how the entire table is set up. It might make more sense if you look at a full table without any of the rows pulled down underneath (they did this because its really wide). The one on this wikipedia page shows everything where it should be, including a (hypothetical) g block. For practical purposes, just ignore rows 8 and 9 on that one. It's all the other patterns that fit into EC that are neat imo.

Gotta laugh at the lawsuit. That's awesome that they are doing that. Then again, with fines that large, if they win, the lawsuit will more than pay for itself. I don't like the idea of offering amnesty though, I'd rather see them strait up try to sue them. I guess from their perspective though its better business to try and scare them strait first rather than sue them. I hope they do sue some people and win though. The publicity from something like that would be an amazing weapon in their arsenal. "And if you bot in our game, we will sue you for hundreds of dollars, just like we did to these assclowns.". Jagex isn't pulling any punches. Their rolling out all the big guns in a very short time span. This is war! Now if only they hadn't also declared war on the general playability of their game at the same time, but I'm sure that will get sorted in the next few weeks. The only real symptom I am having is doubled cpu usage (I swear theirs got to be a leak in the program or whatever you call it. Its consuming more resources than GTA IV)

Server Shutdowns
Wow, that's super empty. I had no idea that it would be that bad. It is kinda a sign of a dying game though. It would send a really bad signal. I guess it will depend on if things pick up over the next few weeks. I doubt Jagex will make a move to quickly. Having a bunch of 2000 capacity servers with only a couple hundred people would look easily as bad as shutting some of them down. Starting to get an idea of why the marketing team has become so extreme lately. We might need a bit of an infusion of fresh blood.

Reflection and Injection to be precise. The jmod who wrote the news article wasn't a techie, and another Jmod clarified it a bit early on in one of their stikies (page 4 of something). And they never said anything about banning. Their intention is to break them so they don't work anymore.

25-Oct-2011 - Bot-Nuking Day: Making RuneScape Fairer and More Fun!
Most people call them colour bots. The update wont affect them, because they interact with the legitimate game client. I expect to see a huge surge in the number of people using these (they are inferior to the other bots, but way harder for the server and probably Jagex staff to detect).
-
25-Oct-2011 - Bot-Nuking Day: Making RuneScape Fairer and More Fun!
We wont be able to say if the update did any lasting damage for a week or so. As I understand it right now, none of the reflection or injection bots are able to connect to the game at all, so they did more then just tweak game code to mess with the scripts. The servers are actively denying the bot programs. If they don't come right back in a week or two, then Jagex has won, at least for now. After that, its a ticking clock till they find a way around it and Jagex invents even better ways to deny them.

25-Oct-2011 - Bot-Nuking Day: Making RuneScape Fairer and More Fun!
Loaded the new updates. Now I get to try again for the version that actually talks to the servers. This is fun. Maybe they could have not, you know, put the banner up yet, and left it to signal when the game will actually work.

25-Oct-2011 - Bot-Nuking Day: Making RuneScape Fairer and More Fun!
It would be a nice thought if next time they did a timer, they set it for when they plan the update to go live, rather than when they plan to start the upload to the servers. If you know you can't get the upload done in under an hour, it would just be nice. Also mildly pissed because I would like to get as much slay done as humanly possible, and Jagex is sitting there using a flame-thrower on the time remaining. And gotta love how they said "for everyone" and then only put in stuff for members. Memebers only D&D and skills and minigames. Smooth.
