  1. I'd choose someone who showed that they had good judgment and leadership because that's what they do, they lead. Furthermore, no one "owns" a company (I know you didn't say that, just saying). It's owned by a Board of Directors. People surround themselves with people who also show good judgment, and are perhaps more experienced than you. What kind of judgment are we talking about here?
  2. Fdr didn't bring us out of the depression. World War Two did. If anything the new deal prolonged it by getting the country so dependent on federal spending that when even he decided to take some of it away the country went into a mini depression. Fdr also destroyed 10 million acres of crops and killed 6 million piglets just to raise the food prices even though people were going hungry. He prolonged the double digit unemployment which was the most important factor of the depression.
  3. Racists and neo-nazis would still find some excuse like "he's only half black", but you're right it would do a LOT to improve equality in the entire world as well, seeing a person from a minority group can actually become the leader of a free country (not sure how free the US is anymore, but it's just an icon). I don't quite understand the McCain voters though. Do they vote for him, just because they don't like Obama? If you are voting for McCain.. You're basically saying "bring on Bush's 3rd term". His voting record in 2008 is 100% with Bush (and 95% in 2007). McCain's not really like Bush. Obama voted with Bush something like almost 50% of the time. And he votes with Senate democrats 97% of the time. And for McCain's career he's got a very very low percentage of voting with Bush for a Republican. They've fully agreed on almost no major issue completely. Even on the war McCain was the one to call out the administration early on. On taxes, immigration, the environment, energy, detainee treatment and other things they have been different. Increasing taxes is how we are going to end the debt. It's funny, people want to cut programs to end the debt, when the US really doesn't have that many programs as it is. We are pretty damned capitalist, in a major war, have little programs, and you want to CUT taxes??!!? Jesus crickey, talk about fiscal irresponsibility. Were in a recession and you want to RAISE taxes??!!?
  4. I'm pretty sure most people didn't know until they actually found the camps. I think the very top people in the office of war information and the President knew as early as late 1942. They had no idea of it when they turned away the St. Louis. However Roosevelt didn't bomb the tracks going into Aushwitz or Buchenwald after they did know. I don't know why they didn't though. I've heard that it was outside the range of the bombers but I'm not sure if that is true. I remember when Bush gave his speech at the Holocaust memorial or something he said something about it.
  5. Best choice he had other than Mark Warner; who is running for Senate and did not want the job at all. No matter who Obama picked, he was going to get attacked. No matter who it was, they were going to mine through their statements, dig through their past, etc. Obama knows this, it is what the vetting team was about. Joe Biden is going to rip Mitt Romney to shreds when McCain picks him, I cannot wait. If Obama loses, it would almost be worth it just to watch that slime wither. Anyway, McCain is not winning lol, it ain't happening. I won't let it. All Obama needs is Kerry's map/Iowa (which Iowa is guaranteed to go Dem this year) + Virginia, and as a local resident of Virginia, I'm going to make that happen. Obama's ground team >>>>>> McCain's. All these new registered voters are almost all for Obama. It's all about getting people energized, and Obama/Biden does that. Another good thing about Biden, 1/4 voters don't know who he is, and another 1/4 don't know anything about him. Shows he has a clean record, and has kept his nose clean. Although unless someone is running for President as a major contender or has been involved in a sex scandal, I don't expect the American public to know "who they are". Obama is not winning Virginia. Probably a better chance at Indiana or another state. If McCain picks Romney He'll win Michigan, and if he picks Lieberman he'll win Florida. Ridge would probably give him Pennsylvania. The text message thing is genius though. All you gotta do is text everyone the day of.
  6. Thats a tough one. Whoever gets that one is pretty smart.
  7. Oh I could clean up on American History. I think I got the all but one. [hide=]2. Concord 5. Pat Henry 8. He was the President 10. George Washington[/hide]
  8. I was laughing at that for like 5 minutes.
  9. At the beginning of world war two all of the areas that Germany wanted were mostly german. So theoretically Germany was just protecting their own citizens. South ossetia and abkhazia are not russian provinces. They are part of Georgia. Russia should not have had "peacekeepers" there to begin with. And at the very most russia could have simply pushed the Georgians out of those areas instead of tearing across the whole country and taking cities not even near there.
  10. If all russia did was to expel the Georgians from south ossetia and abkhazia it wouldn't have been a huge deal but they invaded Georgia well beyond what was necessary. They captured cities that were no where near those regions. And russia should not have had "peacekeeping" forces inside Georgian territory to begin with.
  11. chicago could a nice target, but that isn't wisconsin. it is close enough thought that milwaukee will be fried with it. baldwin would get some radiation. i live in the Chicago suburbs =( Just out of curiosity are the major countries in South America allied with European countries or The U.S.A? Would the major countries in Souh America fight if there was a world war? I think Colombia is the only big country that is very closely allied with the U.S. I know venezuela and ecuador don't like us but I'd doubt they matter at all. Columbia could wreck both of them. Venezuela is like russia in a way. Trying to act all tough.
  12. ^^ Washington only served two terms. He was the one who set the precedent for it. Roosevelt is the only President to ignore it and go for reelection again. After him they made it a law that you can't serve more than 2 terms.
  13. renegotiating nafta could affect canada in negative ways.
  14. I think the important thing to remember is that if you are white, even if your family came to America after the civil war and never owned slaves, you are responsible for slavery. Watch roots. You personally did that and you should be ashamed.
  15. Thats what it's for. The only reason that russia is mad is that Poland is cooperating with the U.S.
  16. If you wanted to try and live in Antartica, global warming would actually be a good thing. the ice would melt :wall: how is that a good thing? Antarctic ice isn't really melting. Most of the continent is getting colder.
  17. That is the best idea. Probably more than 3 miles though.
  18. I was flirting with the Idea of Bob Barr for a while but then I realized that was a wasted vote. Then I realized any vote casted in California was a wasted vote. Anyway Obama just picked Biden. Best pick he could have made. Anything outside this country he knows what the deal is. The only guys who can stand toe to toe with him are Lieberman or Romney. Biden does have quite a mouth though. He's almost as funny as Huckabee. After the saddleback disaster this might help Obama a little. Now it's just up to McCain to pick his vp. edit: All I can think about though is that Biden should be the nominee and Obama wouldn't even be qualified to be vice president. And that Biden was the one who wanted John Kerry to pick McCain for his vp.
  19. It's a missile defense system, right? If so then that concern makes no sense and the Russians shouldn't have it. The US could shoot at the Russians, and they couldn't shoot back. The shield could stop Russian missiles, and allow the US' right through. Ah, I see. Makes sense, thanks for that. Does anyone buy that this system is aimed at defending against an attack from Iran? [hide=][/hide] I suppose it could be plausible, though I'm no expert on missile defence systems. Beside that, wouldn't the US be more worried about defending Israel against an attack from Iran, considering the motives of a guy like Ahmadinejad? If so, then I don't see how a missile defense system in Poland would be effective for that. I think missiles might be like planes and travel on curved trajectory? And I think it is supposed to protect Europe.
  20. We're not really that good in baseball. They might be trying to punish cuba.
  21. You know the majority of the War was fought on the East side, right? Alas, one forgets that Russia had an equal hand in winning WWII with the United States, and endured far more casualties than the United States, Germany, and Japan combined. Bravo with the typical "America won the war for the world" propaganda though. =D> edit: I should say the USSR lost that many casualties, but I digress. I think what a lot of people fail to realize is that if Russia had an organized army instead of just a mass amount of soldiers with no training they would have done better. All Russia did was burn a city to the ground and retreat further into Russia on the grounds that they had more people and would outlast the Germans, which they did. A lot of those casualties were their own fault. Sure they were untrained and the casualties were their own fault, but you still cannot ignore the massive impact they had on winning the war, that was my point. No one says they didn't have an impact. There is a reason that we were called the "allies". Team effort. That said the U.S. was the only country that was crucial to victory.
  22. I personally wonder if it would have happened if the student had a gun. Just a wild guess but... No?
  23. Yeah you're right, since he failed to run for 5m he really didn't give effort the whole race. Get over yourself and stop being such a misanthrope. Get a hobby and stop finding every little thing to complain about. I meant the last race.
  24. Bolt just broke the 200 record. And this time he actually gave effort. That was sure a hell of a run.
  25. We did pretty well with North Korea. Obviously the prospect of being kicked out of the g8 isn't sending russia running with their tails between their legs. Not much anyone can do there.
