Me too. The 'Remember the Titans' music is on again though. -

Yeah because you know, insulting people shows a lot of grace and class when you win something. -
At least there is some consolation. It looks as if Prop 8 will pass. The abortion one is iffy though. Florida and Arizona passed things like Prop 8 already also. I still feel bad about Allen West. I'm going to be sulking about him for weeks.
-
I lol'd He was the main hope. Such an good candidate. Not afraid to call Obama out on playing the race card and refrained from using it himself too. How does a 30 year army vet and war hero not get elected? I guess Florida's 22nd district is just to racist. The only hope left is for Mike Pence to get minority leader.
-
Never mind. Allen West lost. We are screwed. It's all on Mike Pence now.
-
^^ That is a terrible attitude. The Republicans will make a comeback after there is somebody else to blame but Bush. There are only a few hopes left for the Republican Party. I'm pretty much putting all of my hope here. He's trailing though so it might end up here. That is the future. Hopefully Presidents 45 and 46 respectively.

Good news from the Western Front Comrade! Anyway, we'll see how his term goes. It's not really any surprise that he won. I mean he practically had it gift wrapped to him. With an unpopular administration and a 4 to 1 money advantage it's pretty hard not to win. I don't think things could have gone much worse tonight. Murtha was re-elected and Allen West is trailing Klein by like 30,000 votes. :( -
Thanks. Watching it now. This could take my mind off the elections now. Allen West is behind. :(

Which network? I could go for that right now.

Wow. I fell asleep and when i woke up Obama had won Penn. and Sununu had lost. That is a pretty bad way to wake up. Jeff Beatty lost. He was a beast. If only I could trade either one of them for Saxby Chambliss.

Yes on 8! I'm with the Tongans on this one. And only partially because I'm scared of them. I just get a terrifying feeling whenever I hear Gavin Newsom say "whether you like it or not" in between affairs and providing alcohol to minors. :ohnoes:

If they lose, that doesn't make me wrong. It just means they lost.

Great, The daily show. I guess you sure showed me.

She's more qualified than Obama is. How so? I don't think being governor or a low population state like Alaska makes you more qualified than being a senator of a state like Illinois :-k Being a Senator, it doesn't matter what state you are from. Add that to the fact that he has accomplished nothing while in office. Palin actually has a long list of accomplishments and has the highest approval rating of any Governor in the country. Even The Governator. I'd agree with him that Obama is a 'girlie man' though. He looks soft. I'd challenge him to 1 on 1 and take him to church. Not Wrights church though.

[hide=] You're right, the college's votes are the only ones that actually elect the president, but they have always voted the way their state has. Exactly, they really have no choice. Each state is worth a certain amount of electoral votes (I think based on population, but I could be wrong) and if a candidate wins in a state, he/she gets those electoral votes. IF 8th grade history is to be believed. They actually do have a choice. There's nothing in the Constitution (and I don't think any laws) that forbids them from voting for another nominee, but no Electors have voted against their states. And you're right, the number of electoral votes a state has is based on population. There has actually been a case or two when the electors went a different way, I believe. Having to do with their personal moral opinions and all. People really don't understand the electoral college. At this point it is rather obsolete, but that does not make the principle on which it was created unsound. But there is always that little hitch where a candidate can win the popular vote but not the college vote. Which has happened a few times as well. [/hide] In 2004 some idiot from like Iowa or somewhere voted for John Edwards for both President and VP.

How is saying that it is a big deal racist? It would say a lot about how far America has come in relation to race if he wins, that is a great thing - progress. Now that is not to say people should vote for him only because he is black, it just means that a black man winning would be a great sign that America is overcoming it's troubled past in relation to race. I want a black President, just not Obama. I'd really like Allen West. He's a beast. If Obama loses(which is highly unlikely) West in 2012! He'd have as much experience as Obama by then. He is the future of the Republican party. Mike Pence for minority leader and him for whip.

McCain and Obama's actions on Iraq would be nearly the exact same, something that neither cares to admit. No, not really. Dude, Jefferson was a good President. He went against his own ideology and bought almost half of the country for a bargain.
-
Don't hate on Lincoln or Jefferson. And how can you not have a favorite? It's got to be George Washington. He's like Babe Ruth in the Sandlot. 'More than a man, Less than a god'. You can't beat him. Anyway, I am bracing myself for Tuesday and President-elect Obama. I'm more concerned about congress than the President now. Nancy Pelosi. :ohnoes: Really though, I ready to give Obama the benefit of the doubt on everything but Iraq. That is just too important. I don't really care too much if he raises peoples taxes or whatever but Iraq is the only thing I can't give him a pass on. Maybe energy too but not as much.

Why does everyone think governments are evil/out to get us?
jackattack replied to trapical's topic in Off-Topic
Well, she fires people for personal reasons, and hires her best friends...I'd call that corruption. The report cleared her of that so I wouldn't call it corruption. Come to think of it, there's a simple answer to that criticism. The moon makes one full orbit of the earth every ~30 days or so. Also, the moon is involved in a "tidal lock" with the earth where it always shows the same face to us (hence the whole "dark side of the moon" thing). So if there was sunlight bathing the Apollo missions on the moon, the angle at which it hit wouldn't have changed appreciably in 40 mins (remember, we're talking 40 mins out of ~30 days here, not the earth's 24 hours), hence the shadows probably won't have moved to any obvious degree. I might not have explained that perfectly, but hopefully I made it understandable enough. Edit: Just out of curiosity, I had a play around with the scenario on stellarium (where I was looking to the sun from the point of view of the moon) and by my estimation the amount of time exposed to sunlight for one period on the moon (analogous to dawn-to-dusk on earth) was ~16 days or 384 hours. More than enough time for 40 minutes to seem like nothing in terms of moving shadows. I've met Buzz Aldrin and seen him speak. Trust me, he's been to the moon. -
[hide=] ok your worse then a wall. a wall doesn't talk back. arn't you getting it they !!!!!!!!can't!!!!!! pay back any money that they are given because all that money is going to paying off debts and is not actually being invested in making more. and these are under the un's definition of torture. google it!!! look at how several un human rights overseers are being kicked out of gitmo because of it. torture doesn't work!!!! tortureres won't stop if you say you know nothing a million times!!!! they are after information that they believe correct even though there is no evidence to support it. people answer torturers because they think its what they want and will end there pain not because its the truth. if i were to waterboard you a million times to get you to say your mom is an alien you'll say it not because its the truth but because it will end the pain. i'm not going to post on this thread anymore because you just are not listening to reason and humanity and is just turning into a flame fest Dude, don't take my world for it. Look it up. House Resolution 1424 the "Economic Stabilization Act of 2008". It is in the bill that all money will be gained back by the taxpayers from the financial institutions after 5 years.. And torture works. I would trust someone who has worked at CIA for years and knows their job over some dunce from Amnesty International. you know what, i promised i wouldn't post on this thread again but its americans like you who have no clue how the world works that really get under my skin. do i need to get the cards out again?? what part don't you get?? your government can pass all the bills it wants to. they can't make money out of thin air!!!!!!! all the money that is going to pay the banks is going to pay debts and keep their stocks up!!!!!!! they are still loseing money no matter how much the government gives them. they only way to actually fix the problem would be to give the money to american citizens who owe money on mortages, credit, ect. if they do this #1 forclosures are going to go down and every american citizen will still have a home instead of being forced out on the street #2 people will actually be able to buy food, clothing, and everything else that we humans deem essential #3 it will stop the banks from crashing!!!! the banks will no longer have to try and collect money from people who don't have a penny to spare and all there debts will slowly go away and the banks will not be loseing money on failed mortages and loans. if they don't do the banks are going to lose more money and your government will slowly crumble, just like your infrastructure, healthcare, education, and nuemerouse other systems that are decaying because your government cant afford to keep them running. don't believe me look at new orliens(srry if i misspelled). people were telling the bush administration for years that the levees would not hold. pick up an actual book for once and not what your government keeps feeding you. and i'm discusted that you actually think torture is ok. more often then not its inocent people who are forced to confess to things that they did not do. and again i'm disgusted by people like you who actually think that this is ok [/hide] This is probably my fault because I am not being clear. Your first comment was that the government was going to raise taxes on people in order to pay for the bailout. What I said was that the government would have all of the money returned to them. The aren't just giving it away for free dude. It is written into the bill that if after 5 years they haven't made back all of the money then they will recover it from the financial institutions. Taxpayers are on the hook for nothing.

"spreading the wealth" would be more along the lines of 'from each according to his ability, to each according to his need'. And I'd be willing to bet that Obama would be perfectly happy to go along with Maxine Waters when she said "this liberal wants to socialize oil companies"
-
I see what is wrong with torture. I never said it was a good thing. But when lives can be saved by giving a mass murderer a dunk in the water for less than a minute I won't lose much sleep.

I thought banned books only meant that teachers couldn't teach them in class?
