  1. Probably Peter will have to answer the following... Isn't there a way to leave the forums online at the same time while a script does all the dirty work? ~D. V. "Why offline when you might be able to run simultaneously?" Devnull
  2. Sometimes, you two. Other times, the Java applet chokes because it can't send/receive fast enough and chokes from it. BTW, DDOS Attacks can cause lag without knocking sites offline, simply because it went through a router that you were also using at the same time. ;) Beyond that, yeah, graphics cards can also factor in. My previous post had already taken account of that and was mentioning all the junk that I wish was gone, because it would result in less lag as well. :D ~D. V. "Sometimes what looks like one thing can stem from another..." Devnull
  3. Here's an idea, albeit a little more blunt... :geek: Reduce all multi-CRLF (i.e.: 5+) packs to a maximum of 4 CRLFs (per pack of CRLFs) for all posts prior to the PhpBB/IPB forum conversion's date. I do think that this would pretty much solve any/all problems and restore readability for the most part. From there, any posts that still need fixing could then be sent to the Moderator Queue, pending on the condition that the thread is still well-used in one way or another. How does that sound to all of you??? :) ~D. V. "Trying to think of a useful solution..." Devnull
  4. Heh... that's internet lag for ya. If only we could get people to quit clogging the internet with spam and/or ddos attacks, just to name a couple of the worst. But we all know that won't quit happening... LOL... ~D. V. "Lag... Remove jerks to stop it, if you can..." Devnull
  5. Not difficult? I think that's some of the worst sarcasm I've ever heard. LOL! :XD: Shall I make a post in this thread to demonstrate how annoying it can get, having seen what I've seen before and being worse than annoyed as well as finding it overly difficult to stick around long enough to finish reading? ~D. V. "Finding you extremely hard to believe right now..." Devnull
  6. Thanks for the second heads-up. I appreciate it, as it helped me find the moderator post on the next page. =)

  7. Thanks for the heads-up... I'll go have a read soon.

  8. I hadn't looked at it quite that way, and hadn't realized the possibility of it being an abuse. Also, I do understand that the posts were never in violation of the rules. However, and not to be overly argumentative/annoying, I don't know of any other method in which posts with this problem can be handled rapidly except by sending it to the report queue. So, any ideas on what we, as lowly forum users, can do about this to help get these posts fixed? ~D. V. "Stuck in the confused pile..." Devnull
  9. oliboli1992, have you tried the IE7/IE8-compatible rendering modes? ~D. V. "Compatibility mode, perhaps?" Devnull
  10. This has been happening since the first conversion from PhpBB2 to PhpBB3, and even into IPB. If you really want the extra returns gone, I would suggest that you report the post(s) in question. That way, the Mods/Admins of Tip.It Forums can get easy pointers to all the current ones that affect users and possibly do something about them. You aren't going to make them go through the forums like a trawler through an ocean, right? ;) ~Mr. D. V. "There's a reason for the 'Report Post' Button..." Devnull (p.s.: Wow... so many posts while I was typing this while distracted... lol...)
  11. As it stands, it is possible to use the following... Intel P4 (Single Core) @ 2.4 GHz 2 GB (DDR 266) RAM ATI Radeon HD 4650 AGP Dual monitors @ 1024x768 resolution Windows XP FireFox 2.x-series Java 6 Update 6 Maxed RuneScape Graphics Settings ... and still get anywhere from 5-35 fps, only dependent upon polygon count and player traffic. Those specs of that newer system that you mentioned, Nifflin, should result in a near-gangbusters gameplay experience. Unless Jagex did something utterly stupid that causes RuneScape to not improve with extra CPU cores at hand, but I won't speculate on that. :? ~D. V. "In short, you should have a lot less lag... period." Devnull
  12. What's your browser? Also, do you get any scrollbars to drag? ~D. V. "Always asking the diagnostic questions..." Devnull
  13. Hello, Tip.It Crewbies... Read below, I've got some bad news for you... :( While heading to visit the Tip.It Front Page this morning, I ran into some cookies (which I denied manually) that shouldn't have shown up from "tongji.linezing.com"... I then checked my ABP list, and discovered multiple entries that shouldn't even be there. Very quickly, I flew to my "View Source" command, and found the following in the page... <script src="http://www.dual-boxing.com/clientscript/yui/animation/js.php" type="text/javascript"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="http://js.tongji.linezing.com/2494801/tongji.js"></script> <img src="http://dt.tongji.linezing.com/tongji.do?unit_id=2494801&uv_id=19015599273809678862& uv_new=0&cna=&cg=&mid=&mmland=&ade=&adtm=&sttm=&cpa=&ss_id=1445423839&ss_no=6&ec=1& ref=http%3A//tip.it/runescape/%3Ftimes%3Dall&url=http%3A//tip.it/runescape/%3Ftimes%3D626& title=Tip.it%20RuneScape%20Help%20%3A%3A%20Tip.It%20Times%20%3A%3A%20 The%20Original%20RuneScape%20help%20site%21&charset=undefined&domain=tip.it& hashval=600&filtered=0&app=Netscape&agent=Mozilla/5.0%20%28Windows%3B%20U%3B %20Windows%20NT%205.1%3B%20en-US%3B%20rv%3A1.8.1.6%29%20Gecko/20070725 %20Firefox/2.0.0.6&color=32-bit&screen=1024x768&lg=en-us&je=1&fv=10.0%20r42& st=1308582258&vc=b9c1ad14&ut=0&url_id=0&cnu=0.9868762751287229" border="0" height="1" width="1"><noscript> <img src="http://img.tongji.linezing.com/2494801/tongji.gif"/></noscript> [Edit: Had to manually hand-chop this so it could display easily...] ...which was hiding amongst the page code for the Website Poll. Immediately upon seeing this, I then launched google searches on the domains in that snippet of page source that I saw. Now, it's not just bad enough that site who the cookies came from is all chinese, which makes it impossible to read. But, "js.tongji.linezing.com" is on the "ISC Diary | IE 0day exploit domains" listing, marking it as being potentially hazardous to computers to have anything load from it. You need to get that junk torn out of the website pages, and fast, before someone gets hit. As for me, I'm just glad I haven't been hit, and I've already placed ABP blocks against them so I won't in the future. (Firefox FTW, eh?) But I don't want anyone else falling victim, so that's why you're seeing this now. Please fix it quickly? :? ~Mr. D. V. "I shouldn't be seeing potentially dangerous junk in Tip.It's pages, right?!?!?" Devnull (p.s.: BTW, that was a VERY nice poll that you chose to put up there today. Already placed my vote this morning as well.)
  14. Have you sent in a Bug Report to Jagex at the RuneScape website? It is looking more and more like the problem is theirs. ~D. V. "This might not be your fault..." Devnull
  15. Logdotzip, do you have any issues when you set RuneScape's AA to 2x? I don't know for sure, but knowing this might help point to where the fault is. :-k ~D. V. "Maybe you can get some partial smoothing?" Devnull
  16. Yeah! That's the best way to prove your point! Ignore everyone who disagrees with you! Only because they've passed my "trouble vs. anger" quotient. Also, if you notice from my updated post back there, that signature only contains half of my thoughts. Right now, I'm too tired to care about retouching it, plus the reply to you happened to be an afterthought. :| In that case, you contradicted yourself by saying that gaining too much exp means you can't moderate effectively and then by saying that it doesn't matter how much exp you gain in relativity to moderation. That all depends on the tilt at which you, them, and/or anyone takes my posts. Again, the "whole paragraph" thing applies, as I'll note that I was dropping in a little personal opinion while making the point. ;) ~D. V. "Quotients... Tilts... Oi!" Devnull (p.s.: If it helps, take note of the funny little "Warning" item in my global forum siggy. BTW, Last_to_Kn0w, I gotta credit you on staying far less inflammatory than Bows does. I won't ask though what promise to tripsis you just broke, as I'm pretty sure I didn't want to know.)
  17. What you tried to point out as being wrong, is something that you actually mis-read, and that's why it happened to be such an awful idea. Heck, if that's simply not clear enough, I'll be flat-ignoring any further posts from you to this specific thread via "Common Sense". It's something that comes with age, and isn't actually built into these forums, but allows thread-specific ignores without having to set more permanent settings. Really handy for me, ha ha... :shades: EDIT: As for this... I fail to see where you put the "don't always" part <<<snip>>> Again, you have to read through the whole post. Especially whole paragraphs, because if you don't, then you end up firing a bad return post at just a single segment. It isn't a matter of being a problem to disagree with an opinion, it's actually a matter of disagreeing with a single part without taking the rest into account. <_< ~D. V. "Don't want to read properly? I'll just bypass your posts!" Devnull (Late post edit caused by an intermittent post...)
  18. @ Bows -- I think Laikrob covered the other half of what I might have had to say to you quite well. Heck, I signed it in my hand-signature of my previous post, now that I recall! Put simply, my point earlier was that a person's RS Exp. gains don't always correlate to what their true ability to admin/mod a forum will be. Like Laikrob said, "one doesn't necessarily exclude the other"... BTW, did you miss the "at least in my personal opinion" part of what I said? Did you really try to treat my thoughts like I was stating more than just my opinions? If so, bad idea, dude... <_< ~D. V. "How hard is it to get a point across to someone, really?" Devnull
  19. Agreed. I don't know what I was thinking when I typed out that post earlier, now that I've re-read the whole thread. #-o It's just really mind-boggling though how only certain parts are working. Further, it's odd how they come and go, as well as how they work off and on. I'm almost beginning to think it's time to ask for an HJT Log, because I'm bonking my head on the wall trying to figure out what's going on. :wall: ~D. V. "Argh... *facepalm* ... this one's messing with my head." Devnull
  20. ('img' changed to 'url' to minimize load time...) Aw dangit! You beat me to the punch! :( ~D. V. "I'm too late!" Devnull
  21. ZokiRS, have you checked your Hosts file? I would like to think there isn't something about runescape in there, but it might be a good idea to check, just in case someone/something messed with it. :( ~D. V. "I'm thinking this isn't going to be a usual culprit..." Devnull (p.s.: Don't even get me started with worst-case scenarios yet... I'm trying to not think about them...)
  22. Is that XP increases? I think he's trying to imply xp increases equal one's ability to be a good admin. :wall: Jimmy is too beast to need xp increases for that. :^_^: In addition to what Jaffy1 said, gaining 19m xp in a month takes away too much time to be able to help admin a forum properly, at least in my personal opinion. Heck, I've been thinking of joining staff here and there, and I only make +20k xp/month at the outside normally. On the flipside, I've helped moderate/admin at least 3 or 4 other forums I've been at in the past, and I've always done a proper job each time. I'm seriously not trying to boast here or anything, but I am just trying to assist in making the point that RuneScape Skill Exp. gains do not auto-equivocate into better admin capabilities. ~D. V. "More RS Exp ≠ Better Admin Ability" Devnull
  23. Isn't that actually "hs_err_pid<number>.log"??? BTW, I can tell you that I've found some of mine floating around the install directory for Logitech's Setpoint Software, just to name one of several places. So it is very likely that dire1 will need to run a full search of their hard disks. :( ~D. V. "Yes, it's a lot more messy than I like to think about." Devnull
  24. I'll second that, and I hope someone hasn't messed with ZokiRS's LAN Router. IMO, ZokiRS needs to clear their browser cache without their browser being fully up and running. If that doesn't work, then we'll need a full list of system specs and an HJT Log, just to name a few pieces of information that might help determine what's gone wrong. Heck, if and when ZokiRS reads this, I would like to know if anything has changed in their LAN Router. :-k ~D. V. "So many options, so many questions to ask..." Devnull
  25. How about flat banning w99 as well from being a valid snipe zone for this? Such a change would make it fair to us poor F2P'ers. ~D. V. "No W99! Help F2P!" Devnull (p.s.: Yes, I'll admit this is a bit of a sarcastic joke, so no flames please.)
