  1. Because changing what its censored to is still not solving the root problem but to solve the root problem would endanger the community. There exists suitable workarounds that, at most, add 30 extra seconds to your posting time. The world will not collapse and fall in that time. The risks outweigh the benefits and I strongly disagree with removing .exe from the censor. I also disagree with removing the censor on them, Kimberly, but that's not the point here! What I'm getting at is that my idea mitigates some of the annoyance caused by the root problem. Heck, if you view my idea versus the current censor in a proportional font, you'll find that my idea shortens the display length considerably. However, it still makes the point it was meant to. Hey, can you say "Less annoying because it's shorter.", instead of going around proverbially 'throwing out the baby with the bathwater'? :geek: Honestly, I personally don't find the root problem to be that much of a problem at all. Heck, I've put up with it for just about as long as I've known of the existence (a few years now) of HiJackThis, and I really don't find it that much of a freaking problem at all! (Well, at least I didn't until this thread stuck its' forbidden -- in my opinion -- nose out of the ground at me.) I'm just trying to help find some kind of middle ground that the Admins can quickly set in place for a while until a better solution can be designed. Again, which would you rather have, less annoying or very annoying? Personally, I prefer the idea of less annoying. That, and Dick, because "Former Vice President [bleep] Cheney" just looks funny. I see what they did there, dsavi. Good ol' decreased browser fonts FTW. Not something I'll actually do, though. Shame on them for doing it. :shame: ~D. V. "Bloody censor issues..." Devnull
  2. Everyone, why not just simplify things, and change... [Caution: Executable File] ...to... [block: Exec. File] ...in order to cut down the length of the censor text and make it far less annoying? I would personally support a change like that myself. ~D. V. "Why not shrink the censor length?" Devnull
  3. Regarding your comment to my profile:

No conspiracies, dude. You've just been making some severely comment-worthy status posts lately. ^_^

  4. of cores it can be removed without a 404 image, at least they could change it to an other image. Horrible spelling, I see. LOL :XD: Yeah, sure, they could change the image. Maybe to something crazy, like "Bugsby's Expressive Single Digit", which would be downright ridiculous. But, the retroactive damage would be insane. Further, as Das said, people will still be irritating no matter what's put there. So it wouldn't really help to change it. :boohoo: Anyway, your two posts above, the post-that-will-likely-be-zapped just after, and my post are all beside the point. Thread died with Saradomin_Mage, and the two of you have just necro'd it into an off-topic lunacy, as well as drawn an equally looney post with a comic reference from me. Hell, pardon me while I sign this final thought below in all caps. :-w ~D. V. "CAN WE LET THE THREAD DIE NOW?" Devnull [Edit by author to cover a post that was sneaked in while this one was being typed...]
  5. Same thing happened to me with a suggestion thread or two regarding other things. (I'm not going to say what because the one I do remember would be flamebait material, and the other one I can't remember.) I've totally given up on suggesting anything on the RSOF due to it. Can't blame you either for feeling the way you are. :( ~D. V. "Suggesting on the RSOF is depressing..." Devnull
  6. Before I go any further, I should note that I support both ideas... Now, on to the more involved technical stuff, section-marked by a list number... Instead of creating multiple chunk sizes, Jagex could instead just load more of the same size chunks at the same time into the Applet running in RAM. Heck, they could even background stream them and rig rendering connections so that you don't end up waiting for another loading screen ever. There's no need for even starting at low resolution and fading/detailing them into view. They could just stay behind the fog while they're still being set up and/or out-of-range, and already be at full quality once they're in-range. :D If we're going to have something like this, then I would suggest having some transparency controls to go with the on/off option, as well as some controls to change notification colors with. Further, Jagex needs to increase the chat/game message buffers and allow chat messages to transition between in-game and in-lobby, so that people aren't having their conversations punctuated with the disruptions caused by losing the chat history. Seriously, there's only 80 messages in the recent buffer, and you lose it all if you drop to the lobby? It's like "WTF?", seeing as things like split buffers are long-overdue! Good luck to both of these ideas happening. They're a seriously long time in the coming. :) ~Mr. D. V. It's a good question, but I wonder who has an answer... =s

No, I'm not. I just don't have the answer, so I'm not posting.

  8. Well done on moving up, Jimmy_Jim! ~D. V. "Nice, JJ!" Devnull
  9. I believe Ginger_Warrior was making a point by the use of the smiley, please don't come into a topic and accuse someone of trolling publically, thanks. Actually, I wasn't doing this because of the emote that Ginger_Warrior used, but because of the "Trollololol" following. Sort of a +1 on it in an easily-misinterpretable format, which I see you fell right into. I'll admit though, I should have wrote "...this thread is a bad idea of a trolling..." on that sentence part as I look at it in retrospect, as that would have made it far from misinterpretable. ~D. V. "Hook, line, and sinker... much?" Devnull (p.s.: I'll just consider this a lesson learned. Thanks, though.)
  10. I'm against the removal of this smiley. Other than the fact that it would damage a near-uncountable number of posts, there are people who use it to its' proper effect. Heck, check out my post history, and you'll see proper usage here and there. ;) Also, people could try and make equally useless arguments against a lot of the other smileys. The thing is, each has their use, be it for sarcasm, jokes, or even that "Let alone that, what about this bigger concern?" kind of issues, just to name a few. But should we let ourselves devolve into family-unfriendliness through removal, and therefore lack, of these emotes? Not just "NO!", but "HELL NO!!!", and that's quite well why we should never remove any. <_< Now, if you want something I might support, it would be slowing down the animation of the eyes. They DO move too fast, but that's no reason to junk it. You just simply pull it into an image editor, slow the transitions, and post up the new version over the old one. That would be how to do it right. BTW, just for reference, I rolled my eyes when I saw this thread. I was thinking "Oh no, not again...", because if you let alone the fact that certain emotes are hard-wired into the IPB Forums, there's also the fact that junking some things is simply bad when they could just be re-worked. Which reminds me... I can think of a few emotes worth adding to our forum's repertoire. :D ~D. V. "Don't junk the rolling eyes, just slow the animation!" Devnull (p.s.: Like Ginger_Warrior, I feel that this thread is somebody else's bad trolling attempt. Let's let the thread die, unless somebody is going to just slow the animation to defray this issue.)
  11. I got just one crazy little question, since I'm only a mere F2P'er. Where the heck was that spot at which you gained your 120th Dungeoneering level? ~D. V. "Wha? Where?" Devnull
  12. Pardon my question, but is the "Microsoft Arc" the new one or the old one? ~D. V. "Just clearing up the confusion..." Devnull
  13. It's worse on single-core systems that are stuck in "Safe Mode", where there's no hardware acceleration to take the graphical weight off of the CPU. Times can go up to an unbearable 10+ seconds, which tends to annoy the hell out of me when I have to get something done fast. :( Personally, I wonder why Jagex doesn't side-stream the map parts alongside the main game link. I would think doing so would prevent and/or lessen these stop-and-start situations, and enable a far more fluid gaming experience, because they could then have seamless transitioning across map sections. Heck, weren't they supposed to be trying to take advantage of the extra RAM Heap that some users have allocated to their Java VMs? Jagex could easily have more of the game map loaded all at one time via the increased heaps, so not as many "Loading - Please Wait" messages are needed. Sure would beat having all this lag with absolutely no good/useful explanation as to why it's happening. For that matter, it's leaving modern systems twiddling their freaking thumbs to not have background processing to do. I can only begin to guess what it's like for multi-core users, as I have only single-core systems to work with here. ~Mr. D. V. "I feel like I've been run over by the long waits. Isn't there a solution?" Devnull
  14. Simple... You've got a shorted keyboard lead and/or a slightly shocked keyboard controller. If your laptop is still under warranty, backup all of your personal data, downloads, etc. and send it in to the manufacturer for repairs. Good luck on having it fixed reasonably fast. :shades: ~D. V. "Dang laptop keyboards!" Devnull
  15. Damn paradoxes... Trust me, you're not alone. Those blasted bots over at the Mining Guild are messing things up as well. :wall: Good old times..hehehe.. I would have liked to have been there to see that. Videos, please? :( ~D. V. "Ugh, paradoxes... Any chance you got the video reel?" Devnull
  16. Figures... Regular Jagex Idiocy... When will they ever learn to not monkey with their own damn login system? Further, did any of the data on it get copied by some black-hat hacker? ~D. V. "I'd like to know, damnit." Devnull
  17. Sponge... Bob... Hate... HATE!!!

  18. Hmm...let the other players throw rocks at the characters convicted of botting and then take their stuff? :-k It would certainly make for some interesting community events. Oh, you two crack me up. :XD: We don't even have to go anywhere near that far. Anyone who has been around since -- and done -- the 2007 Christmas Event that gave us all the "Snow Globe" holiday event item can all shake their Snow Globes, get together, and go pelt bots left and right. Heck, I'm surprised I haven't already done this a lot more. Oh, that's right, I didn't think of it before because I was alone! ~D. V. "No rocks needed... Get your Snow Globes out!" Devnull (p.s.: Maybe meet me in Codguy's "FishScape Chat" channel when I'm not having to deal with advertising bots, and we can discuss a meetup to go enjoy pelting bots with snowballs?)
  19. Hi there, ! Well done on getting into the Tip.It Forum Staff, and their stack of Board-Specific Moderators!!! ... Heck, I even do bolded names better than @Rainy_Day. :P I got just one question, though. Which Board are you helping Moderate? :-s <*Leaves a bag of muffins for and runs off...*> <3: ~D. V. "Nice, but which board? Oh, and Muffins for You!" Devnull
  20. Tch... If Jagex were serious, then they would have a Clan Channel that happened to have J-mods on-hand 24/7 to handle these in-game, advert-spamming, nausea-causing bots. As it stands, these bots are slowly making me sick just about every time I go on RuneScape now. Heck, I wish Jagex had somewhere I could tell them about the nausea that these bots are causing me, so Jagex could go after the RWT'ers in a court with evidence that the RWT'ers are making Jagex's RuneScape players sick. :-X ~D. V. "Can't stand the nausea from the bots..." Devnull
  21. Everyone, I would say this is due to up to three things: Ever-Unavoidable Internet Lag :( Something probably at the server end not sending back whatever TCP/IP and/or HTTP message that keeps the computer and/or browser on the client end willing to wait for more data. <.< Some bozo's router probably blocking packets that were meant to reach you and/or the forum server. :x Any which way you put it, all you can really do is have patience with these forums. If you attempt to keep on pushing against it, you run the risk of a duplicate and/or multiple post(s) plastering along the page. In my opinion, Killerred005 has at least found a trick to check if it posted or not, and the rest of you would find it handy to follow suit for now. ;) Heck, now that I'm aware of it, even though I haven't had it happen to me, I can at least keep my eyes open/watching in-case it does happen. :) ~Mr. D. V. "I wish the internet didn't have these issues..." Devnull
  22. Alright... lol, your reply does indeed answer my question. Sorry to hear we won't get the validation feature. I'll admit I was looking forward to it. :anxious: On other notes, how's the toolbar button for posting QFC's coming? If whoever (Yes, I've forgotten who might be doing this.) is making it happens to be short on ideas, I think I posted an idea back in the previous thread about QFC's. :) <*Leaves a bag of cookies for Tripsis, Rainy, and all the other staff replying to this thread, and runs off...*> ~D. V. "Question answered... how's the button?" Devnull
  23. Support, including Sy's tweak for it in the post above mine. Heck, I would like to link my Random Events to the RNG with a definite minimum of a 7-in-12000 (to 7-in-24000) chance, instead of a fixed exp/time amount. (Yes, Random Events are currently linked to an exp amount, making them not-so-random. Just go check the Dev Blogs and Interviews with Jagex if you don't believe me.) It would probably be a lot more fun (at least for me) once a Random Event did come along. Honestly, I think it could be more hilarious as well. ;) That, and I've been missing Random Events since their frequency was lowered. ~D. V. "Let's change it, and make random madness ensue!" Devnull
  24. There were precursors, I think... ;) I don't think that's possible without a serious server-side modification being added to the forums. :? And on other notes, what finally spurred the early announcement about QFC Tags? Honestly, you've left me insanely curious, confused, scared/disturbed, and puzzled. I was standing back until May 31st before I was going to talk anymore about this, in order to leave time for Tip.It's Forum Admins to get more into place. ~Mr. D. V. "Wishing for a little understanding here..." Devnull (p.s.: Not trying to be annoying or anything like that... The announcement is good... It just seems early to me...)
  25. I wish you had linkified that using the "QFC Tag"... Knowing my luck, you must not have known of that one. :| BTW, if you don't keep up with that thread at least once every 12 to 24 hours, it will die. I had a suggestion thread up in the past on the RSOF, and failure to do so (caused by IRL issues) killed it. :geek: ~D. V. "Darn RSOF Threads..." Devnull
