Alright... Just seemed to me like the thread got a little overtrolled at the beginning. :P I just hope we don't end up with a massive crash like this for at least another 4 years. Seeing this happening almost yearly right now is really disturbing. :-? ~D. V. "Seemed like an overtrolling happened... Just hoping this doesn't come again for some time..." Devnull

In that case, if the card is still under warranty, I suggest RMA'ing it in order to get a working replacement. It sounds like part of the card's physical hardware wasn't properly built, and so it more-or-less shorts out (or something like that...) periodically, causing the flakiness. :( ~D. V. "I hope that card can be replaced..." Devnull

I disagree with the non-quest-based route. There is a very nice mining spot filled with clay rocks that is situated south of Barbarian Village (aka Gunnarsgrunn, I think) with twin options (and musicians on the proper routes) for the banks at Varrock West and Edgeville. Using these two paths would highly extend running time, allowing for more Clay mined per hour. :geek: BTW, I just used one of these two recently to create a ton of urns quickly at the pottery wheels in Barbarian Village. ~D. This, if i lost my primal and stuff due to jagex's fault, i'll be LIVID You, Das? Losing your temper? I honestly can't see that happening. :notalk: On a more serious note, RuneScape is back up and running, so I think this is "[/thread]"... Any Mods/Admins want to lock this lunacy that Ren began? ~D. V. "I think we're done here..." Devnull

Off-Topic, and unloading this from my head: Surprising. In my entire time reading this thread, we peaked at... 415 User(s) are reading this topic 112 members, 295 guests, 8 anonymous users ...all reading at one shot. Good thing I hadn't had breakfast yet, or I would be spitting out my drink right about now. BTW, liked a lot of the crazy piccy choices. ... Sadly, they're all too troll-ish. <_< On-Topic, and venting: It would [bleep] figure, wouldn't it? Just when I wanted to go [bleep] grab some more swordfish, RuneScape would be [bleep] down. Worse, Jagex borked themselves so [bleep] badly that they [bleep] can't even post news to their [bleep] front page. Further, "services.runescape.com" appears to be down, and I can't even get FunOrb's [bleep] pages to actually load to anything resembling an actual [bleep] page at all. Bright side, at least they've got the problem somewhat pinned down. Now for them to go nail the jerks who started this whole [bleep] mess. Ban those [bleep] who messed everything up, Jagex! ~Mr. D. V. "Nice Pics, Nice Trolls... Now if only RuneScape could have avoided going [bleep] down!" Devnull (p.s.: Sheesh, two extra pages of posts before I could get mine posted. This [bleep] sucks!)

You've probably checked this already and/or I may have misread your post, but I've gotta ask anyway. Have you checked the Device Manager to make sure that it isn't powering down the WLAN Card and/or the slot that the aforementioned card is plugged into when it goes into Standby/Hibernate? I'm smelling a "poorly written driver" issue here, that might be possible to work around to an extent for Standby, if not Hibernate. ~D. V. "Notebook expansion cards... Madness..." Devnull

Hi all... While I'm still back on Java 6u6 (and enjoying it) to avoid this "web dev override" nuisance, the following command parameter might lend some help to those of you stuck on the latest (but certainly NOT greatest) versions: -Djavaplugin.maxHeapSize=###m or -Djavaplugin.maxHeapSize=######k (Obviously, replace all those bloody "#"s with actual numbers or it won't work! Oh, and make sure that you don't allocate more than 25% of your actual RAM with this, or that will cause problems as well.) In case you're truly curious, this command is part of the Sun Java platform and I read the manuals back when they were up and well-kept. I admit that I don't know if it works with OpenJDK/IcedTea/etc. or how it will interact with the latest versions, so if you actually try this, please post back if it actually punches that "web dev override" in the face? Like many of the rest of you, I'm personally very sick of companies getting carte-blanche access to take control away from the user who actually owns the computer, so I'm posting this purely to provide a possible option to escape this issue. ~D. V. "It's the user's computer, not the web dev's! Let's return that power, if we can!" Devnull (p.s.: Again, I'm providing this post as "option-class" information only. Please avoid flaming me. If it really doesn't work, post back so that we all learn.)

Suggestion: Old Topic Warning
D. V. Devnull replied to BloodAngel's topic in Forum Updates and Suggestions
I'll support this. Somebody just make sure there's a 3-month minimum limit before it shows up for an "Old Topic", alright? ~D. V. "Good idea, even if it has a caveat..." Devnull -
Hi there... Have you tried clearing your cookies for just forum.tip.it? It sounds like one of them might have gotten stuck, instead of dissolving like they are normally supposed to. Also, have you checked all of your in-forum personal settings? Perhaps one of them is out of whack. :-k ~D. V. "Possible stuck cookie or setting, perhaps?" Devnull

RuneScape account hacked - what did I do wrong?
D. V. Devnull replied to ixfd64's topic in Help and Advice
Pardon this blunt expression, but............... DDDDAAAAMMMMMNNNNNNIIIIITTTTT!!! Well, this explains why I was showing as not on your friends list when I last checked your chat channel like yesterday or the day before, and definitely prior to some jerk changing your channel's name. Good thing I came back to Tip.It Forums, or I would never have seen something like this to alert me to what happened. Sorry to hear this happened to you, though. :( However, I'm glad to hear you got your account back from the jerk(s) that stole it from you. If you want to get in touch, I've been bouncing between RuneScape and FunOrb's "Steel Sentinels" off and on. So feel free to add me back on and send a private chat message. I'll look forward to hearing from you, that's for sure. :) ~Mr. D. V. "Unholy Ouch! Glad to hear you got control back!" Devnull (p.s.: One of my F2P stats fell below 2,000,000th place, so my combat's reading low. That should be showing as Cb Lvl 85 in my siggy...) (p.p.s.: I don't believe this... I don't have you added to my buddy list on TIF as well? Adding now!) -
jimmy, could you please be a bit more clear with what your idea intends? I'm still a bit confused here. Are you just wishing for a way to have "Game + Clan - Public", and re-route all your typing to "Clan" without having to use the "/" key? :-s ~D. V. "Trying to make sense of this..." Devnull

Even though I'm F2P, consider this 100% supported. I could see something similar happen to us nuts with that room full of those nasty toxic barriers. ~D. V. "I'm on-board with this!" Devnull

Revision of Policy
D. V. Devnull replied to n_odie's topic in Announcements, Rules and Security Warnings!
<*reads through thread... sees flaming, but doesn't let it get to them*> :shades: Glad to hear we'll be cracking down on those trolling and/or breaking RS rules now. Didn't know about the mass troll job going on in General and/or H&A, though. It's kinda odd news to my ears, given that I had not seen this kind of stuff happening there in the past. However, it looks like I'll have to give time for the dust to settle before I head near those again to help out f2p'er newbies. Good luck flushing them out while I go sit on the sidelines, so I don't accidentally get dinged for my own slightly wacky posting style. ~D. V. "Damn trolls... They're giving better people a bad name who shouldn't get shot..." Devnull -
Trialling a CDN
D. V. Devnull replied to MageUK's topic in Announcements, Rules and Security Warnings!
I'm not seeing that here... Perhaps an Admin needs to check things out for you? ~D. V. "Maybe the forum's having a psychotic moment?" Devnull -
Hi, edde9... It so happens you've run into a problem due to Jagex abandoning support for OpenGL 1.3 and earlier. It is also affecting a Graphics Card which I use on a PC here. Sorry to hear you're having a similar (if not the same) problem. You might be able to fix this by Upgrading your Graphics Card Driver files. I'll admit, however, that's a longshot at best. :???: However, if you don't want to do that, just hold the "S" key on your keyboard during the entire time that the RuneScape Java Applet is launching. That will put you in "Safe Mode" and break out of the mis-rendering in the Hardware-Accelerated Modes. ;) ~D. V. "Sorry to hear your Graphics Card ain't getting along with RuneScape..." Devnull (p.s.: Sending a report to have this possibly moved to Tech&Comp... You might get better help there.)

"Tracker" link up top?
D. V. Devnull replied to D. V. Devnull's topic in Forum Updates and Suggestions
@ Cowman/tripsis/Y_Guy -- Thanks for the heads-up on this, all of you. At least I now know I'm not the only one seeing it and that I'm not part of a mass psychosis either. Y_Guy & tripsis, sorry to hear you don't have better permissions control on it. Perhaps Peter might be able to have a word with the IPB Support about that? Cowman, thanks for showing me how it works as well via direct example from IPB's own stuff. :shades: ~D. V. "Thanks for the learning experience. Glad to know I'm not nuts." Devnull (p.s.: Updating the thread header now... done.) -
A realistic "Preview post"?
D. V. Devnull replied to Howlin0001's topic in Forum Updates and Suggestions
I see what Howlin is talking about, and have wished for something like this myself. Strangely (and coincidentally) it would make previews more along the calibre of the RSOF's. So I'll support this. Heck, TBH, they beat me to posting up this idea. This slight annoyance just hadn't passed my "trouble/difficulty vs. anger/willpower" quotient yet. But now that they've posted it up, I'M JOINING IN! :P ~Mr. D. V. "I also think this Post Preview change would be an improvement!" Devnull -
april fools has been funny already
D. V. Devnull replied to pulli23's topic in Forum Updates and Suggestions
(Off-topic: Hey, pulli, would you PLEASE watch your spelling? Thanks in advance!) I second this, as it has rendered me angry as well from impairing site usability. What's worse is that it happens to offend people like myself that are utterly annoyed by J.B.'s (no, I won't type this idiot's full name) quote-unquote "music" that sounds like annoying junk to us. Hell, this is basically as bad as last year's "Pokémon"-themed junk. I'm now wishing that someone in Tip.It's Forum Staff would get a better sense of humor on their shoulders. When it hits a point where the site becomes hard to use, it is definitely beyond going too far. Tip.It Forum Staff has therefore resulted in receiving an AdBlock Plus blockade against "forum.tip.it/*/jbc.cur" from me (and a Ctrl-F5 after) for doing this. They had better watch what they do next year, or I'll be changing that to "forum*tip.it/*.cur" in order to permanently counteract any further shenanigans like this. :boohoo: ~Mr. D. V. "If I'm pulling out AdBlock Plus on them, they've blown it..." Devnull (p.s.: I'll be happy when the forum goes back to normal tomorrow... Until then, BWAHAHAHAHA!!!) -
Hello, Tip.It Forum Staff... :) So the last few days/weeks, I've been seeing a "Tracker" link at the top of the forums. It also happens to appear while I'm not logged in. I was wondering, why is it up there? (Was it just an 'oops'?) Also, what point does it have? Further, why is it currently empty? ~D. V. "Looking forward to understanding this..." Devnull

Hi there, ItsASpork... I hate to say it, but you stepped in something awful there. Please refer to [qfc]25-26-234-62581928[/qfc] as it so happens that Jagex wasn't ready for people upgrading to FireFox 4 yet. I'll wish you well on reverting to FireFox 3.6-series, or whatever you were running prior to the upgrade. :wall: ~D. V. "You upgraded too soon... IMO, that's the problem..." Devnull

Trialling a CDN
D. V. Devnull replied to MageUK's topic in Announcements, Rules and Security Warnings!
I can understand hosting the background images, rank images, and button images for the themes out on some content delivery network. But, doesn't hosting profile photos out there sound a little ludicrous, and doesn't it also carry the risk of that CDN possibly spilling out stuff (thereby causing privacy violations) to unwanted 3rd/4th parties? I trust you and the rest of the Tip.It Staff to not go spilling out stuff. But if there's one thing I've learned, it's to never trust a CDN with Profile-specific stuff. (I've even ABP'd a few CDNs due to their linkage to bad tracking-loaded advertising. My web history is mine, and not for Advertisers to be poking in.) So, I seriously recommend keeping the Profile Photo functions retained on the Forums themselves. Well, unless you wouldn't mind letting people link those in from their PhotoBucket/ImageShack/etc. Accounts finally? ~D. V. "Really, there's privacy concerns to be considered here..." Devnull (p.s.: Right now, I'm severely tilted towards pulling down my Profile Photo during this test...) -
I'm rather glad to hear of this. I thought certain os-related things in Windows 7 blocked usage of that old a Java version. :o (Sadly, anyone running FireFox 3.6.4+ definitely can't use anything before Java 6u10... Dang Mozilla. -.- ...) From what I remember (albeit my memory might be faulty) the RuneScape Jmods saying, if it thinks your local Java install is working, it will try to use that. Otherwise, it uses the OpenJDK Java distro that comes as part of the RS Client's own package. :-s ~D. V. "Grr... Java headaches..." Devnull

A few thoughts: First off, this only appears to be happening to users who are on the New-Generation Java Plugin, as provided by Oracle/Sun. I'm sitting back on Java 6u6 with FF2-series, and I do not have this happening to me. Unluckily, Windows 7 means you can't go back that far, thanks to compatibility issues. (And neither would I normally suggest trying, but RuneScape tends to take exception due to somebody's failure at Jagex and/or Oracle/Sun, and only if someone is running Windows XP or earlier... so nobody try yelling at me about that... Yell at Jagex and/or Oracle/Sun, please.) Yeah, the RuneScape applet appears to be doing something that the New-Generation Java Plugin doesn't like, and so Java just up and goes AWOL... I agree, it's a nightmare. :wall: Second, and getting to something a bit more reasonable... Did you reboot between the deinstall/reinstall, as well as once after in order to make sure that files/registry/etc. were all in place? As memory serves, Oracle/Sun Java tends to have files/registry/etc. which it can only deal with while Windows isn't fully running. (This might have changed, but I really doubt it...) Third, could you please post up your system's specs here? I really hate the idea of having to go near Sony's site after all the bad things they've done. (Again, no going bonkers... Just my personal thoughts because of memories.) Heck, just a few screenshots from your DirectX Diagnostic Utility would help. Preferably the first tab, as well as the Display and Sound tabs. ;) Finally, if you've been getting any "hs_err_pid" files (possibly with numbers on the right end) after these black/white-screen issues, could you post up one or two of them as well? They normally tend to point as to where the initial fault is at, or at least point to one of the possible problems as a result of RuneScape trying to run with the recent Java versions. :-? ~D. V. "Ugh... Newer Java Versions, why do you plague us?!?" Devnull (p.s.: Noticing that you're in the UK, you could just go to Jagex's HQ and have some words with them... ...)

I keep getting OpinionMart Survey' 's
D. V. Devnull replied to Runecrafts's topic in Tech and Computers
Hey... have you conducted anti-spyware scans recently? Sounds like it could be spyware, if it isn't something you only need to add a rule to 'AdBlock Plus' for. ~D. V. "Just had to ask..." Devnull
