Return of an Administrator
D. V. Devnull replied to Cowman_133's topic in Announcements, Rules and Security Warnings!
So he's back, is he? Welcome back, n_odie. :) ... I'll have to tip you, and make Cowman have a cow! (j/k, tbh) ~D. V. "Nice to see you again." Devnull -
Okay, it's working again. I guess it was just a brief hiccup or something. ~D. V. "Bah... Danged PC and/or Internet!" Devnull

Hello, all... Maybe one of you can tell me what's wrong? I'm getting the following error from the TIF Java IRC Applet while trying to connect to Tip.It's IRC server... Unable to connect : java.net.ConnectException : Connection refused: connect ... and I'm without any idea of why it is happening. I've tried reloading the browser and everything, so I'm stumped. Can't even tell if the server went down or something. ~D. V. "This time, I need help. I'm totally confused here." Devnull

Have you tried any of the following via the RuneScape Options screen in HD modes? turning off Shadows turning off Fog turning off Flickering Effects turning the brightness up switching to low lighting detail I'll look forward to hearing back on these... I know of one computer where all I had to do was kill shadows because of some kind of pulsing effect I was seeing, and things started behaving nicely. So, I'm at hope that one of these five will work for you. ~D. V. "Do any of the above help?" Devnull

Fake Tip.It e-mail
D. V. Devnull replied to Laikrob's topic in Announcements, Rules and Security Warnings!
Thanks for the heads-up, Laikrob. :D ... Seems like those danged phishers/spammers/black-hats(evil version of hackers) just can't keep the heck away from nice places like Tip.It ... <*leaves a fresh bag of cookies by Laikrob's desk as thanks for the info*> ~D. V. "News like this is helpful." Devnull -
Argh... you didn't get what I meant... What I meant was that Jagex didn't leave any way to enable older graphics cards to display stuff properly, so due to the newer cards having off-the-edge stuff in their drivers, those newer cards are also having trouble because they've got nothing to fall back on in the event that they can't properly render what is being sent to them. :( TBH, I've got no problem with technology trying to move forward. What I do have a problem with is when it moves forward without any thought to the past in terms of compatibility with older things. <_< ~D. V. "Do I make more sense now?!?!?" Devnull
-
This reminds me all too well of what's happened to the Accuracy/Magic/Defense/Strength/Power Amulets... Market prices are just upside-down enough to totally upset the whole economy... If Jagex ever makes it so finished items are always a minimum of the sum of their parts in price, it will heal the economy rather fast... And it might just knock those TT items all into their proper places, too. ;) ~D. V. "I'm just as sick of an upside-down economy as you are." Devnull

This is one of the problems that you get when a company tries to be too "cutting-edge" with their graphics development, and won't maintain proper compatibility with older computers and graphics cards, thereby allowing newer stuff to have something to fall back upon in the event of rendering failures. In short, it's a [bleep] headache and a half. Anywho, we'll need to know the following... Browser and version Java version Graphics Driver Version ...in order to be able to help you better. :geek: ~D. V. "We need more information, sorry." Devnull

Ms. Undo, well done pointing out one group that we need to reform in order to heal the RuneScape community. Put simply, if we can't get them to reform into something better, then they need to GTO (Get The [bleep] Out) until they're willing to reform. :shades: ~D. V. "Time to change those noobs, IMO." Devnull (p.s.: Hey, wth? Star_In_The_Sky?!?!? OMG... STALKER!!!)

+1 to this thread... Those danged reputation systems are pure evil. <_< <*Leaves a fresh bag of Chocolate Chip Cookies for Ms. 'Undo' and walks off elsewhere*> ~D. V. "TIF = better w/o reputation system" Devnull (p.s.: In case anyone's curious, I'm passing cookies out at random to people... maybe you'll be next?)

I think it would be interesting if at least 87.5% of those concept designs all became a part of RuneScape. They definitely would add attractiveness to the game in the Graphics Department. :shades: ~D. V. "Mmmmm... Graphical Candy!" Devnull

doodlebug86, don't even worry about crafting them. Just sell them at the G.E. low-end prices, and crash them back down to where it would repair profits for everyone. Some bunch of nuts manipulated those prices some time back, and Jagex never fixed it. :( ~D. V. "I got [bleep]ed over by the jewelry market being flipped upside-down." Devnull

(Note to all: I skipped 7 pages of replies in dropping my post here quickly... I'll be back to check them later.) FINALLY! FINALLY! Jagex's people got their heads on straight and put a flaming disclaimer on the BTS in order to make people stop flaming them for ridiculous and untrue things! =D> Hmm... "Ability to gain 10 additional bank spaces"... Perhaps a hint for the Lumbridge Hard/Advanced Diary? I wonder... ~D. V. "Some things gone right, and some to look ahead for..." Devnull

Tip.it IP address? - solved thanks to D V pls close
D. V. Devnull replied to TheLad1's topic in Tech and Computers
The IP Addresses I get for Tip.It's Servers are as follows... www.tip.it & sign.tip.it --> 209.160.73.125 forum.tip.it --> 208.43.229.199 So as long as you don't have either of those blocked, then you're fine. ... If you did block either of those, however, then you will need to unblock it in order to gain access. ~D. V. "Blocked one of those? Might wanna unblock it." Devnull -
Missing Image for Tip.It Theme?
D. V. Devnull replied to D. V. Devnull's topic in Forum Updates and Suggestions
Image has returned for me after ordering a cache bypass with a different command combo (Ctrl+F5)... Lock thread, please... Sorry for any and all trouble. :( ~D. V. "Argh... I guess Shift+Reload Button doesn't work." Devnull -
Hello, Tip.It Staff... Tonight, while browsing the forums, the big Watch/Reply/New buttons in threads, and the New Thread button on the board's various sections are all failing to load their background images. BTW, I'm on the Tip.It Theme, which made it hard to see where I needed to click to create this thread. Even after bypassing my cache and attempting direct loads of the single background-type image, I still receive the following error... So... could someone please tell me what is going on that is causing it to not load? Any and all information (and a severe lack of flaming me) about what is happening would be very much appreciated. |^_^| ~D. V. "Won't load? Why? Someone, anyone, please tell me?" Devnull ============================ UPDATE: Just found out that the "Report Member" button is also missing its' background image. :( ~D. V. "A hair worse than I thought..." Devnull

Fell right into it, didn't you, Saradomin_Mage? =P
Look at the bright side... At least you don't feel like Wongtong is stalking you. =$

This ^ And BTW, given my track record with 'Mod Chris E', we can expect something that will be beyond seriously broken for all older Java users. He still hasn't cleaned up for old video cards (and old directx/opengl levels) and how it will interact with File I/O. Really, do they lack the ability to realize that not everyone can upgrade Java for any one of many reasons, and is therefore stuck using the older Java level?!?!? One more thing: Well said, Miokie... ~D. V. "We're gonna regret a graphics update, count on it." Devnull

Why did this never happen Andrew..?
D. V. Devnull replied to FooK-A-Ji's topic in General Discussion
English wasn't Silverion's first language, so don't be too hard on him! I'll personally second what ixfd64 said. Get the [bleep] off Silverion's back about his English language usage! As for the idea of making Camels capable of carrying stuff, I will support only if there is a lesser version (non-summoning) for F2P to go with a stronger version (either summoning or non-summoning) for P2P. Heck, it could even be made into a quest reward. As for the fact that this never happened back when it was originally supposed to be 'in the air' as a possibility, take a freaking good look at Jagex's track record for things. Notice how it always stinks/blows/sucks/<insert-your-choice-of-insult-here> even when the group was much smaller. Personally, I can only see such a track record persisting, so I think we can expect this to never happen. :( ~D. V. "I'm doubtful as the blazes..." Devnull -
Unless the PC in question happens to have one of those custom motherboards with custom cases, like what computer-building companies such as Dell and a few others do. I don't know if that's the case, but I figured I would suggest based on worst-case for a situation like this because of how the posts came off sounding to me. :-? Personally, I would like to think I'm wrong, and any ol' motherboard that can be bought should be possible to put in place of the old one that's already there. ;) ~D. V. "Damnit, I had better NOT be right on this one!" Devnull

Arrrrrrgh, I hate being right about doomsday-equivalent issues like this... :wall: Alright, best I can suggest to prolong the life of your computer is to disable the on-board sound system in the BIOS, then add a sound card into a free slot. (and install drivers for that sound card, lol...) Hopefully, that would give your computer the ability to reproduce sounds once again for you, assuming it doesn't hit a major issue with the highly-aged motherboard. Of course, don't do this unless you're sure you can actually risk a sound card, as I can't warranty that such an offside attempt like this would actually work, let alone work well. Personally, if I were you, I would just play it safe and build a new PC or buy a good pre-built. After which, you would want to trick out the system's features, and also transfer all your data over to the new system. Whichever way you decide to go, I wish you well on the outcome. ;) ~D. V. "Even I don't think my crazy idea is a good idea." Devnull

Dark_Aura, I suggest that you check the warranty on your motherboard. If you're still under warranty, you could at least get the motherboard replaced with an equal or better one. For you to be having an insane problem with an integrated sound system, it would tend to suggest that something is physically already about gone. Worse, it could end up taking something else with it, and that would be rather horrific. :( On the other hand, if I've made an oops and the sound system is on a card plugged into a slot, then check the warranty on the sound card itself. Again, if still within warranty, you might be able to get it replaced with equal or better. Of course, all the above assumes you're having a similar problem to one that I've had in the past where a sound card simply decided to die on me. (However, in my case, the parts were outside warranty... Go figure.) If this isn't the case, disregard my whole post (except the comment at Paw_Claw below) and laugh it off like a bad joke. Personally, I hope I'm NOT right, as an issue like this is NOT user-serviceable. :| @Paw_Claw --- For it to even recognize the sound system, there would have to be drivers already installed. That checks #1 off, and leads me to think it's the hardware. ;) ~D. V. "I really hope you don't have bad hardware." Devnull
