  1. Consider my support added, everyone. As long as it has the checks to prevent bad layouts, it would all be nice and helpful to users of this fine forum. Heck, I would be very surprised if there was any naysayers. ~D. V. "I really don't think we could go wrong with adding these." Devnull
  2. I like the informative answers, albeit I wish it hadn't resulted in such a long post. ... But, you've really gotta be [bleep] kidding me. A total of 210 Forums and SubForums? ... Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn! <*Sets down a bag of chewy chocolate chip cookies on the nearby table, and then keels over and crashes to the ground, anime-style.*> ~D. V. "Between that and the wall-of-text answer post, I'm overloaded!" Devnull (p.s.: Any "Dead Frontier Online" players out there in the Tip.It Community?)
  3. So... didn't read article #3 (don't normally read fictionals, lol)... As for Articles #1 & #2, I feel that they're both square-on. A lot of the recent changes to RuneScape have appeared in some way or another to be mere half-baked attempts to please the player base. Heck, I can think of a lot of things that Jagex should do that they haven't, and a number of things that they should have never done (and need to direly undo) and were unreasonable to do in the first place. <_< Further, I like a couple of people's ideas in this thread about Display Names. Long-standing friends should be able to see their friend's original IDs. As for how many changes, I'll disagree just slightly and say that 7 per year would be reasonable, with reversals not counting, and only allow activation of one of those 7 changes every 14 days at the closest, with ability to reverse any time that a user likes without issues. ~Mr. D. V. "I get how these ranting Tip.It Times writers feel." Devnull
  4. If you don't have that file right now in your profile directory, then don't put it there. As I noted before, Firefox only creates that file while it is running, and normally wipes it after it is done. Also, as I said before, if you didn't have that file there, then my instructions were completely null and void, because they predicate on the presence of that file. :( ~D. V. "Argh, why does no one listen to me properly?" Devnull
  5. I think I know what's going on here. It sounds like FireFox left behind a rather stupid '0 KB' file named "parent.lock", which you'll find in "C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<user number>.default" ... If that file exists, wipe only that "parent.lock" file out while you find no "firefox(dot)exe" (don't mind my filter dodge) processes running on your computer. That should unstick your issue with FireFox stupidly (and confusingly) thinking it can't launch. If this is not the issue that you're having, then please tell us and disregard this post. :anxious: ~D. V. "I hate a stuck FireFox." Devnull
  6. Sword95, I don't know how (and probably don't want to know how) you got in this mess, but I will lend you some advice. I'm just really nice like that. :shades: I've learned in my time that mining/smithing/crafting/runecrafting are all very useful to have up in the direction of 70, or at least high-60's. I suggest you use that nice pickaxe that you have in your bank, or if you don't have one, grab a free spawn off the Lumby Gatehouse. Further, grab a free smithing hammer from the spawn in falador's furnace building (2nd physical floor) to make items with. Then, go mine and smith some Mithril-based items, and use some of those Nature Runes that I suspect you have in order to high-alch them. Further, you'll probably rack up a good stash gems, which you can either sell or craft into some very nice jewelry that you can either enchant and sell, or just sell to somebody like Grum (Port Sarim Jewelry Shop NPC) to make some gp from. Any which way you go about it, as long as you get out of combat for a bit, you'll make a fine restarters' mint of ~2 million gp minimum. Oh, and I almost forgot about that RuneCrafting. You've got the multipliers to make and sell a ton, and you really ought to, at least, if you're not going to use it on Magic. :) Yeah, I know, you've got a real tooth for combat. Trust me, RuneScape isn't all about combat. So cool off for a while, man! :D ~Mr. D. V. "About time you go skilling, I think." Devnull
  7. Oh ye of little smarts... :P (Just kidding, I know you're rather smart! I've watchlisted some good rants of yours before.) While I won't spill my secrets about my configs, I'll tell you the following as starts of ideas... Sometimes, you don't have to get in your opponents' faces to kill them. Further, targeting isn't always a good solution. Worst case, you might find something equivalent to a melting rain is good. ;) ~D. V. "always around to leave a spare hint" Devnull (p.s.: You might want to show your RS/FunOrb Username, so your fellow Tip.It'ers can try to find you for things like teaming up.) (p.p.s.: Tip.It Forum Mods, sorry about my doing the equivalent of thread necrosis. This thread happened to be sitting on page 1 still, and I forgot to check the date while responding.)
  8. That's because the RS KB is often wrong about their own information <_< Ha ha... It is more than that. All you crewbies of Tip.It, in general, present the information in an easier-to-read format. Further, you all keep it from getting lost in a stream of other things. I must say that I appreciate it a lot. ~D. V. "There's more than one factor that draws me here!" Devnull
  9. I read article #1, about "The Evolution of Weaponry"... IMO, the only thing that can really come next is Range/Mage weaponry that can parallel (and potentially beat, because it would make the fight fair) godswords and other similarly powerful melee weapons. Further, better melee-blocking Mage Armors need to be released to help balance mage vs. melee fights. Until that's done, combat in RuneScape will remain forever unbalanced. 'Nuff said. -.- ~D. V. "Has to be for Range/Mage... Melee's got beyond enough, now." Devnull
  10. <*Walks in, sees headache of a thread, and posts.*> BB49 ... Now you can't say I didn't post here. At least, not without frivolously calling a Mod/Admin who would abuse their powers and frivolously move my perfectly valid post away from this thread. :P BTW, Bier, I also would have instead used hexadecimal mathematical notation if I had began this thread. Why? Just so people could have had the option of a calculator, and no excuse not to use it. Since you began this headache of a thread, you've earned the following... <*Kills Bier for starting the thread, and walks away, never to be seen on this thread again.*> ~D. V. "The joke's on you, punks!" Devnull (p.s.: Madam Hexadecimal is watching the rest of you...)
  11. Questions for you, NiceGuy... What version of Mozilla FireFox are you using? Further, what else can you tell us about things like your Java version, Graphics Card, OpenGL Version, etc.? Answering these can help others diagnose your issue. ~D. V. "The more info, the better." Devnull
  12. ~D. V. "You realize if I was going to ask the staff, I had to include a joke-starter... LOL" Devnull I cannot answer that 'question' as it is not in fact a question. The last point ends with an exclamation mark, and is therefore a statement not a question, but thanks anyway. I will admit, I goofed slightly. As part of that joke, I meant to (and forgot to) implicitly insert the question, "What would you fill into the #3 slot?"... Yeah, I really blew it there. :anxious: :wall: ~D. V. "You caught me with my pants down, metaphorically speaking." Devnull
  13. Okay... two questions... one serious, the other definitely NOT serious... First (and serious) question: When will you guys allow display names that contain spaces/periods? I'd really like to show the fact that my online name has a first, middle, and last. [spoiler=Second (NON-serious) question... Avoid opening if you're not in a joking mood!]Second (and extremely NOT serious) question: Run into absolutely single member of the opposite gender, who happen to also be a Tip.It Admin/Mod/Crewbie... Become mutually in love with aforementioned Admin/Mod/Crewbie of the opposite gender... ????????????? PROFIT!!! Again, I repeat that the second question is intended very much so to only be humorous, NON-serious, and perhaps rhetorical at best. Please, have a laugh Admins/Mods/Crewbies, instead of misinterpreting that question and getting angry at me. And if you do decide to joke back and answer it, please feel free to list off all the answers that each of you might have inserted there, instead of just listing one concensus-type answer. I suspect there are many (both staff and not) who would love to join in on the joke. ~D. V. "You realize if I was going to ask the staff, I had to include a joke-starter... LOL" Devnull (p.s.: If you really have to kill my second question from this post, please accept my sincerest apologies for having made you have to do so. I really am only trying to joke. I had NO other intents.)
  14. I see you... Don't worry, that's a good thing. =)

  15. n_odie, thanks for the heads-up... I'll watch out for a suspicious mail in my inbox, just in case I got one. :shades: @Goon: Nice vid... LOL  ~D. V. "Thanks 4 Info." Devnull
  16. Alright. Sorry to hear that doesn't work for you. :( Anywho, I asked someone else about the problem IRL. You might try disabling jusched(dot)exe from MSConfig during your next install attempt, as it is the executable for the Sun Java Scheduler. (Had to slap the censor in the face for it's stupidity, lol.) Also, don't forget to disable auto-updates in the Java Control Panel. Please let us know if that works. :geek: ~D. V. "Hadn't thought of this myself." Devnull [Author Note: Had a whole different post up before this.]
  17. As I said before, I'm only suggesting this because the new Java versions are incompatible for the reason that eXeDestroy listed with their Vista SP1 system. (Also, I'm using Java 6u6 here with no issues, albeit that I'm also running a FireFox 2.0.0.x-series browser on that same system with WinXP Pro SP2.) I already understand doing this isn't normally a good idea, but when the latest can't be used for one reason or another by someone, what choice is there? At least I'm giving an option that could work, and putting forth the small potential chance that they might be able to get Java working with their browser. IMHO, no one should have to just miss out due to a mere incompatibility. ~D. V. "I already know about this... If this didn't stand a small chance of working, then I would never have suggested it." Devnull
  18. Getting back on-topic... eXeDestroy, have you tried installing one of the pre-6u10 versions of Sun Java, preferably 6u6 or 6u7? It can sometimes be said that if the latest stuff doesn't work, maybe the earlier stuff will. BTW, I'm only suggesting this as a last-resort measure, and only because the latest Sun Java versions are proving themselves incompatible. Personally, I hope this works, but it might not. So, don't get your hopes too high, as you might have to uninstall it as well. :geek: ~D. V. "If new doesn't fit you, try older stuff." Devnull (p.s.: If it were Win7 then my suggestion would have been useless, in which case I wouldn't have posted.)
  19. I just noticed something else with this update, something awesome. The post-login redirect is now working in FireFox 2.0.0.x-series browsers. Well done, Tip.It Staff! ~D. V. "Liking the working redirect!" Devnull (p.s.: Still waiting on spaces & periods for Display Names. LOL :P ...)
  20. I will state the following in advance of whatever happens: Should Tip.It decide to build a Stellar Dawn guide set and pull together a crew for maintaining it, then I will most gladly welcome it. I find it far more easy reading a lot of Tip.It's guides than I do reading ones on the RS Official Knowledge Base. :shades: ~D. V. "Tip.It building their own guides would be a plus." Devnull
  21. <*Looks at Tripsis post after his previous one, and gives up even though it will mean more trouble.*> I guess I'm going to have to do something totally organization-blowing with it inside of my PhotoBucket, then. *facepalm* :wall: ~D. V. "Why is there always a dead wall I run into?" Devnull =============================================== Late Note: 71 characters... best I can do... <*heads for avatar changer to fix the issue*>
  22. You can always save your avatar to your computer and upload it to another image hosting site. :) Just rechecked my avatar's image URL after coming to see your reply... 94 Characters. I wonder why PhotoBucket temporarily added a 16 character time stamp parameter... :-k Anyway, now that I've seen that, I could settle with an increase to a limit of 120. (I felt like 255 was far too ridiculous anyway.) This brings me to my next thought, which is... "Why should I have to upload to another site, when I already have a PhotoBucket account? Why effectively snub ALL registered PhotoBucket users in this regard?" ...and I'm rather sure was never your intent? Can it really be that much of a problem to adjust a limit number in order to accommodate everyone who has a registered (and/or well-organized) PhotoBucket account? I can't see any reason to leave anyone out, and a field of reason to change it to include everyone. IMHO, it would honestly take a lot more work to upload to another service and re-link from them, than it would to just change a single solitary URL character limit number, because each person who would have to do that would also have to track their image for a myriad of reasons. For that matter, I don't see any good reason that someone who has an account with one image host should ever have to get an image hosting account with another. It would be overkill, to be honest. ~D. V. "All you have to do is change one thing to save everyone a lot of pain." Devnull (p.s.: I didn't mean for this post to come out sounding so scathing and/or adversarial. Sorry.) ====================================================================== Since the following was posted, I guess I have to reply to it as well... Kaur, all that solution happens to do is cause an insane issue with tracking. What if, unlike PhotoBucket, they go down? Or just flat stop hosting the image for some reason I'm unaware of? For me, it isn't even a matter of loyalty to one image host. As you should be able to see, the mere tracking issues are a nightmare on their own. And don't even make me go into personal data issues with what you've just done. <_< ~D. V. "Do you like being a pain or something?" Devnull
  23. Glad to hear new stuff is up and running. Sadly, I won't be able to get in on TeamSpeak, so I'll wish you all the best of fun on that. ;) As for Polls, I'm glad to hear they're available, but I don't know when I'll actually have major need of it. Now, I'm additionally glad to hear also that file size limits (and dimension limits for signatures) have been increased on avatars and signatures. However, the number of characters for an Avatar Image URL needs to be upped from 80 to 120. (At a dead minimum... I'd personally recommend 160, or even as much as a 255 absolute maximum for what it should be increased to.) I am currently unable to change my avatar without permanent loss of ability to use my current avatar at a later time, as the current URL is upwards of 100 characters. (And I don't even remember how I got it in there the first time!) :( Finally, there's the Display Names. Unluckily, you're not allowing spaces/periods, so I can't make my "D_V_Devnull" look like a nicer-feeling "D. V. Devnull"... I really hope you'll add spaces/periods to the allowed characters sometime soon. Here's to looking forward to a bright future for Tip.It Forums! |^_^| ~Mr. D. V. "You've just about got the formula right... Two mere technical issues to fix, IMO." Devnull
  24. I'm just gonna be happy that F2P even has normal unrated achievements to earn now. Used to be that we didn't. :| ~D. V. "It's better than it used to be, if nothing else." Devnull
  25. is being stalked by fellow Tip.It'ers, so he's definitely hiding.
