Communism - Yea or Nay?
If you read my post you'll see I was calling myself a douche. Not that mister roll-eyes up there doesn't deserve it when assassin kindly explained things to him. But hey, thanks for the condescending attitude mate. Keep it up, we all really like it. *takes a bow* Thanks, my goal is to please you more and more with each post. I also like how you use the the "we" to imply that you speak for all tip.it.

Communism - Yea or Nay?
Calling somebody a douche because they disagree with your point of view. How very mature.

Global warming - Do you mind it?
We are by definition, in an ice age (because we have Polar Ice Caps).

The Gaza Strip
There isn't enough space, as has been said time and time again in this thread Gaza is extremely densely populated. Also the militants live in Gaza they go back there after firing rockets as that is where there homes are(as is explained in the video that was posted by Magekillr) to expect them to stand and wave Israeli jets to fire upon them is a fantasy, that still doesn't mean they're using civilian shields. That is not to say I agree with attacks on Israeli civilians, it is just the truth of the matter.

The Gaza Strip
They're warning them to leave but where are they supposed to go to? Israel is blockading Gaza so civilians can't leave and they are bombing the whole of Gaza so it's not like there is any safe ground.

Just admit already that you support Hamas in their goal to wipe Israel off the map. Stop trying to bait people. edit - and if that isn't deliberate flame bait then you're just a bit thick.

Lock Thread Please.
You can ask her not to smoke when she is around you but when she isn't smoking around you, quite frankly, it is none of your business. If she wants to smoke she will, giving her a lecture will do no good at all.

The Gaza Strip
2) Hamas wants the land (ie. Israel) as it was under Arab control until 1948 when Israel was established and became a Jewish State. The conflict isn't born out of random anti-semitism (there is an anti-semitic element now but that is a chicken and egg argument) it is born out of the Palestinian desire to have the nation that they once had (albiet under British Mandate) returned to them. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1948_Arab-Israeli_War (There are better sources available online about the topic but Wikipedia is so easy to find). 3) Let me play devil's advocate here. You live in a nation that is walled in (ie. you can't leave it by land, sea or air) and you are fighting what you consider to be a fight for your own nation's independence from people that you consider to be illegal occupiers. How can you attack the enemy in any other way but to fire from what little territory you do have with the little weapons you have? Now I don't condone killing civilians nor do I support Hamas but pragmatically speaking, the rockets are their only option if they want to attack Israel (unless Israel enters Gaza or the West Bank). Now I don't think they should attack as they have been but they feel the need to continue some form of armed struggle. That is the problem though, the bombing hasn't stopped the rockets and neither will the current ground attack. Israel is saying that it will capture sites where rockets are being launched but they still have the range to be fired from even further inside Gaza. Even if they decimate the current Hamas leadership it will only create an atmosphere where young Palestinians will race to join up out of their anger. On top of that, they won't be able to permanently disarm Hamas either, for every tunnel into Egypt they destroy Hamas can just dig another pretty quickly. It just seems a bit redundant to me, it is an unwinnable situation militarily. I personally think outside mediation is the key in the short term, maybe a neutral party stepping into Gaza to prevent rocket attacks. The problem is the lack of neutral force with the capacity to step into such a position, the difficulty in getting Hamas to agree to having foreigners inside Gaza in such a capacity and Israel not wanting to lose face by having outside interference.

Do You Support Capital Punishment?
The costs involved in executing somebody far exceeds the cost of life imprisonment often by 2 or 3 times as much. I know that's counter-intuitive but when you consider all the checks, the cost of trials, the cost of appeals and all the other stages that have to be gone through for a death penalty to be carried out then you realise that the cost add up very quickly.

Israel hasn't given back all the land from 1967 war, in fact Khaled Mashal (Hamas' leader in exile) has been quoted (last year I think) saying that if Israel went back to it's pre-1967 borders it would be a realistic aim [1]. It isn't just Palestinian land that Israel still has from that war either, the Golan Heights is still a big area of disagreement between Israel and Syria. Israeli troops have entered Gaza, things just got worse. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/worldnews/article-1103314/Israeli-ground-forces-invade-Gaza-strip-day-increased-air-strikes.html Kranked - theres been a few protests in Edinburgh, Glasgow as well as a pretty big one in London.

Yes, the IDF even warned the people in the same building as him to get out, but he didn't let them... Or something like that :-k . It was a Hamas 'commander' (well one a few days ago and one yesterday as far as I recall) it wasn't Ismail Haniya or Khaled Mashal (the two major forces in Hamas). edit - I just wanted to post this article from BBC website. I think it makes an interesting point regarding the coverage of this incident (particularly on the ban on foreign journalists in Gaza). http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/middle ... 809371.stm

[ Scrubs ]-Best T.V series of all time?
Scrubs is okay but nothing remarkable, I'd watch it if nothing else is on but I wouldn't seek it out. In my opinion the greatest tv series of all time is The Sopranos, no other series that I've seen comes close.

Just because you can see reasons behind what they're doing doesn't mean you agree with what they are doing. Just because people criticise Israel's tactics doesn't make you an anti-semitic either. That being said, yes, many members of Hamas are bigoted, I don't agree with that and I don't think anyone would try to justify anti-semitism nor should anyone support the hardliners in Israel who despise Arabs and Muslims. I find racism intolerable on all fronts. I think you need to strike a better balance between what you consider racism with a criticism of tactics and governmental actions.

I assume all the Hamas-supporters on here agree with his goal of completing the "Final Solution"? I don't remember anyone saying that they supported Hamas.

What movie(s) did you last see?
I just caught this on tv last night, I only watched on the basis of a vague memory of your post. I enjoyed the film although it does go off on a tangent at times and there is a bit too much narration. The plot was enough to keep me interested throughout and the b&w visuals are pretty good. My real problem in appreciating this was my tiredness, it started at 2:30am and ended at 4am this morning so I was pretty exhausted, I think if it had been on earlier I would have been a much sharper viewer. Also, was it just me or is that last line of narration (the "8 million stories in The Naked City, this is just one of them." line) homaged in Summer of Sam (Jimmy Breslin's bit).

Which is worse?
Ignorant people can be educated but there is little you can do for the apathetic.

What movie(s) did you last see?
I am Cuba (Soy Cuba) (1964) - I didn't have much of an idea about this film before it was advertised as part of Film 4's 'Films To See Before You Die' season but I'm so glad I did. It's a propaganda film that shows some of the events in the build up to the Cuban revolution through 4 separate stories. The cinematography is absolutely astounding, it's hard to do it justice with words if you haven't seen it. It is a propaganda film in the tradition of the Soviet films of the era(it was directed by Mikhail Kalatozov and a Russian crew) so of course there is a clear message behind the film but that really doesn't take away from the film at all. It is a tragedy that this wasn't seen by many people for almost 30 years until it was rediscovered during the 90's.

Could it be that it really wouldn't matter where they put their bases if they'd stop stupidly firing rockets into Israel? Outgoing rockets attract incoming military attention. ...and the blockade of aid, food and medical supplies causes rockets. If you sign an agreement and then don't abide by it as Israel has by not ending the blockade then why should Hamas abide by their side of the agreement? It is hypocritical. [/hide] Well, see, every time Israel open it's borders to allow said things, someone thinks it'd be fun to blow themselves up while on a bus or in a mall. ...And Egypt also has a blockade against Gaza, but has only recently started allowing limited passage to and fro the country. But you don't see Hamas firing rockets at them, do you? Your first point is irrelevant, Israel signed the agreement voluntarily and then went back on it. If you don't want to follow the terms then why sign the agreement in the first place? If you make an agreement and then don't follow through with your side of the deal it is absolutely unreasonable to expect the other side to follow through with their side of the deal regardless. Why would Hamas target Egypt? Egypt didn't break agreements to end the blockage (as they never made one) and Egypt hasn't occupied Palestinian land. On top of that, Egypt's blockade is only in place due to the deal they made with Israel over Israel's disengagement from the Philadelphi route in 2005.

Are you really prepared to take this down the religious fundamentalist route? That argument (from both sides) is what has gotten this to where we are today - "our book says it's our land" "but our book says that it's ours." On the subject of rockets, maybe they would have stopped if Israel had ended the blockade of Gaza as it promised in the ceasefire agreement that ran out in October.

I was looking for that organisation last night but I couldn't remember its name. I totally agree though that we should be clear when talking about Israel and Jewish people, not all Jews are or support what Israel has done or is doing. I think for my part in this post I have been very deliberate to say Israel and Israeli's, so lets all keep it that way as BlueLancer has said. I mean not even all Israeli's support what their government is doing.
