You're not the police. What makes you think that he's somehow done some public disservice by deliberately allowing himself to get robbed at gunpoint in order to remove himself from danger? Essentially, you've just proven his point about "ego". The second half of that post is purely speculative (particularly the bit about being killed) and should be totally disregarded in the interests of a sensible discussion.

Things that annoy the HELL out of you.
I can fully understand why people are celebrating her death. I think it's something of a false argument to suggest that just because we can't recall her time in office, we shouldn't acknowledge the very deep and lasting damage her policies did to whole families, communities and regions. Furthermore, I think some of the press coverage has sensationalised the issue; certainly there aren't mass parties in the streets, and it certainly isn't happening in most cities. There was, what, 300 people in the whole of Glasgow on the day she died, when feelings were most raw? If you read the Daily Mail's front page headline this morning you'd swear there were huge armies of "anarchists" rioting in ecstasy across the nation. I'm not going to join any of these parties, because as much as I personally loathed her and what she stood for, I respect that there is a family in grieving. But I can't admit to feeling sorry either. When she destroyed entire livelihoods, I don't think she showed much empathy herself, frankly... the last thing she would want is people like me being sorry for the sake of sorry. As an aside, it's exactly sentiments such as death parties which are the reason I have no time for the Socialist Workers Party, despite being quite firmly left-wing.

I'm sorry to hear that. To be honest, I tl;dr'd that post. All my anecdotal evidence is that, while I live in a country where public ownership of firearms is essentially banned, and grew up in a heavily urbanised residential estate on the outskirts of the city centre, I have to yet to come across any time in my 23 years of living where I've required one, or where I'd even have found one useful.

Has any of that actually happened in your life, though?

Things that annoy the HELL out of you.
While we're on the topic: dubstep. Truthfully, it doesn't annoy the HELL out of me, but there's only two or three songs I've listened to where the good parts about dubstep have been effectively used to make an attractive tune with a pertinent meaning. From where I'm sitting, the vast majority of it is congruous to a four-year-old pissing around on a keyboard.

Today...
Today I finished my first placement which has lasted 11 weeks. I love working when I can see that my efforts make a difference and I definitely feel like I've achieved that over the last few months. It feels like leaving a job. We have a week off and then go back to uni, but I'll wake up all next week with a big hole and nothing really to fill it with. :(

How to make the world a better place?
I think the point of the thread was more aimed at helping out at your local community centre, you know, that sort of thing. In other words, not mass genocide.

Xbox One discussion
There was something about it being unveiled in late May. I want to say the 21st, but I'm not sure. Eurogamer are reporting that other reported sources say 21st May: http://www.eurogamer...reports-suggest

The Self-Development Thread
I'm not smart. :P I think I'm more meticulous/perfectionist than anything... How critical have you been of that statement "what's wrong with me?". Why didn't you join them? Think hard about it, there might be legitimate reasons. If there aren't legitimate reasons, promise yourself to say 'yes' next time, even if it makes you feel uncomfortable. I think it was Mel (Goddess) who once said "Speak up, even if your voice trembles"... it's honestly one of the best bits of advice I've ever seen.

Oh [bleep]ing hell, I honestly didn't mean or even want one off-hand post in the "Today..." thread to evolve into (yet another) thread on firearms regulation.

Yeah, this is pretty common high level DG knowledge. Not a bug at all. Shared XP on is very unusual indeed.

Not impressed by PS4
The first half of your post makes sense. The second half does not, so long as Facebook apps and mobile phone games continue to be the real perpetrators of home console gaming's downfall. Neither of which require "average home computers", let alone gaming rigs. Unless you want your game of Candy Crush to run really fast.

Even 2,000 games, which we'll assume takes thirty minutes per game (20 min games, 5 minutes in between, 5 minutes 'wastage' or other activities). Would take 1,000 hours. With some rounding down, that's the equivalent of twenty-five full-time working weeks. That's just for one trimmed cape requirement, and then you want to nudge the other requirements up to match it? I'd suggest certain few people on this thread are approaching the point of ridiculous.

09-Apr-2013 - Castle Wars: Revamped
I've already explained its flaws on several threads over many years, and repeated the claim again on this very page last page (new page started since writing this). My point is that you can have someone who's played 2,000 games of Castle Wars and someone who's played 20 games of Castle Wars. It's entirely plausible for the person who's played twenty games to better at playing Castle Wars than the person who's played 2,000 games of Castle Wars, yet they both receive the same reward after each game. Therefore, we realise that the Castle Wars capes have nothing to do with the player's skill and more to do with the sheer amount of time they've played it; your first game of Castle Wars has the potential to be just as difficult as your 2,000th. The analogy is similar to how ranks of modern day FPSs very seldom indicate anything about the player's skill level, just how much they've played, since pretty much all participants in online MM games receive exactly the same amount of XP per game. The only other statement the cape can say is "This person has played Castle Wars"... well, they've played Castle Wars once, why play it another few thousand times to emphasise that point? What the Castle Wars cape requirement is, is a very cynical attempt at artificially drawing out the game's endgame by making the player repeat the same arduous task over and over and over again for many hundreds of hours. All of this on a minigame which was never designed to provide any substantial reward to the player, it was only ever meant for diversion, but unfortunately like the rest of RuneScape, it appears to have been sucked in to this great treadmill race towards fancy capes and emotes.

Your argument assumes half of us are even going for trimmed comp. I have two 99s... trimmed cape isn't even on my radar, let alone an achievable goal. I don't care for it, but I can still point out its flaws.

09-Apr-2013 - Castle Wars: Revamped
Explain to me, in simple terms, how playing 5,000 castle wars games is any more "harder" than playing, say, 10. Sometimes, there seems to be this pervasive attitude which is almost entirely unique to RuneScape that somehow, the more time you spend on something, the harder it becomes. I could understand if each successive game became harder to win, but it doesn't. There is nothing difficult whatsoever about passing time.

09-Apr-2013 - Castle Wars: Revamped
It was never really the time that bothered most people. It was the principle of having to grind a minigame that was originally conceived as a light-hearted PvP diversion, for hundreds of hours, for the sake of a fancy trim on a cape, via a prerequisite which was completely out of scale with any of the trimmed completionist cape's other prerequisites.

What about level 3 4 defenders? I don't have much sympathy, frankly. Your point seems to fall into a very pure definition of RPG which is "I should be allowed to do whatever I want, whenever I want to". If you're level 4 (post-EoC) and you're playing a combat PvP minigame... what do you expect? How exactly can you be contributing more to the team than, say, a level 200 player wearing PoP armours and turmoil? Assuming both aren't loafing and all other common sense variables, of course.
-
09-Apr-2013 - Castle Wars: Revamped
The armour requirement is still a measure of games won rather than contributions within those games. A better way of combating loafers would have been something similar to the zeal requirement in Pest Control, or to make it so players who deal more damage/score more points receive more tokens.

But weapons of war have no place on our streets. These weapons of mass destruction let you fire streams from the hip! A nuke would take care of the bugs. Are you saying everyone should have nukes? Forgive me if I've got the wrong person but... didn't you one argue against gun control in a previous thread somewhere?
