Today...
In our degree course, we're required to keep reflective diaries as part of NMC pre-registration standards. The idea is that we think about our nursing practice and identify which areas we could improve on, to basically maintain our own high standards without someone else having to tell us to. Today I reflected on how much I've learned in the seven weeks we've been on hospital placement so far. To sum up: before this placement, I'd never worked in a hospital and although I had experience of social care in a community setting, the way it works is completely different in a hospital setting. If patients asked me for something, I had no idea how to get it, if I observed something, I wouldn't have a clue whether what I was looking at was normal or not, or even what to do about it. I had no confidence in my abilities whatsoever and it sadly showed in my practice. My mentor admitted to me last week that in the first couple of weeks, she had serious concerns about me. Fast forward seven weeks and I'm very confident about my role. I've learned to do almost all tasks by myself, or if it's a task that requires more than one person, I feel confident enough leading and asking other people to help me. My observation skills have improved drastically. My mentor largely leaves me to do my own thing because she knows I can organise my own workload, keep on top of it, ask for help when I need it and deliver patient needs when they require me to. Despite a very shaky and underwhelming start, I'm now well on-track to passing this placement and developing professionally. All of this probably means nothing to most people on here, but there's a fundamental point in all of this: Whatever it is, If you throw yourself head first into something (sink or swim), you'd surprise yourself just how quickly you pick up new skills to stop yourself sinking. I think the next time somebody tells me that they can't learn a new skill, I'll probably have very little sympathy for them, and if anyone's sat here thinking that they might want to try something new but they're worried they might not be good enough for it, the best way to avoid not being good enough for it is to just go for it and try your best. I've learned that the worst way of dealing with those worries is to hang back and not bother. If you do that, you're not challenging yourself at all and you can't possibly learn anything.

Why would you do that, when you could sell your body for sex? ...Would that technically count as RWT, I wonder... As you can tell from that anecdote, my social life at the moment means I have the most incredible Friday nights. [hide=To overeager Jagex employees]I'm joking, get a sense of humour[/hide]

Massive increase in bots
He didn't say there were 100 bots in that spot. He claimed there were more than 100 bots across all areas, across all worlds. Furthermore, the first picture contains three bots, not one as you suggest. #logic Although logic presumes you actually read the argument presented to you, rather than use it as an excuse for a very weak attempt at flamebaiting re: EoC.

So long as you're courteous about asking for references, I think it's something that most people, teachers especially, will understand the situation you're in. Is it for a university application? If not, perhaps you should focus on a reference from someone who has seen you working and can comment on how you put your skills into practice, rather than what you're like in a classroom. If you have no such reference, or if you haven't got work experience, volunteer for a while and ask them for one.

Won twelve of twenty Premier League titles since its launch in 1992-93. Only team to have finished in the top three of every Premier League season to date. "Relatively shit team" Meanwhile, Liverpool have won zero of those twenty titles and were last champions 23 years ago. 'coz [bleep] logic.

Special Weapon Attack Ability
Would make redundant the entire concept of EoC, by having certain weapons in each tier more powerful than other weapons of that same tier. If it's only an emote you're talking about, then that's a separate matter.

Minecraft General
Basically, yes. I think because you're using a proper controller, it's a lot easier to manage movements. You can use a bow like you would a rifle in a console FPS meaning you can be accurate and dodge things at the same time. Also, the 360 version doesn't have the improved AI, although the TU9 update coming this month will change that. So you can trap mobs behind walls really, really easily, and of course, in the sunshine they make no attempt to stop themselves burning to death. I've definitely found the PC version much more challenging and I don't think that's completely to do with my lack of working experience with WASD/mouse controls.

Minecraft General
I know I'm far too late to this thread but, oh well... Started a Survival Mode map, using an old favourite seed from the 360 version: "Aubergine". The seed is renowned in the 360 version for spawning right next to pits and caves which lead directly to iron and diamonds in the bedrock layers, meaning the whole game is more or less in your hands from the get go. The terrain doesn't generate in the same way across each version, though, so it was more a good omen than an expectation. After the first 12 hours of gameplay I've progressed further and learned the 360 to PC version differences a lot quicker than I thought I would. There was a spider mob spawner right next to the spawn point--you could literally hear the spiders moving around underground. A small amount of digging and I've got myself a silk/XP farm. Then I discovered a ravine with a mineshaft running straight through it, grabbed a few melon seeds and some free redstone so I can make maps. I've died a good four or five times, but I've always been able to get back in time to gather my stuff because everything is so close in proximity. Focusing on farms at the moment since it's a Survival Mode map and therefore I need to able to produce food quickly. Melons are ridiculously overpowered in this game: Drops five slices, can eat raw without poison, fully renewable, doesn't need to be replanted, can be compacted in the inventory back into a full melon block. I just need some villagers to make the place more lively though.

- How did you hear about Runescape?
I'd have heard about it through a friend I made on the old Nintendo of Europe official forums. I remember thinking he must be professional at the game because he had a rune platebody and a scimitar. I was 16 at the time, to be fair.- High Tier Item Access
They take considerably longer when you're level 80 dungeoneering than when you're level 118 dungeoneering, but the fundamental point remains that relative to other weapons in its tier, chaotics hardly take any time at all. Compare how much time you'd have to spend earning enough wealth for a Virtus Wand, and then how much time dungeoneering for a Chaotic Staff. Not even on the same level.- What. The. ****.
Search says he posted in OT (and its sub-boards) only once in the past six years. I don't feel ignorant any more. :)- What. The. ****.
I've been staring at this for 15 minutes now and I still have no idea who the [bleep] that guy is, unless someone points it out to me.- "I want a girlfriend/boyfriend", and other such relationship advice
And if you've chosen not to take the liberty of having sex outside of a formal relationship (or at least something that's heading that way)? Is the reason still illegitimate then?- Tans - maxed [BPL IS BACK]

- "I want a girlfriend/boyfriend", and other such relationship advice
No. I was making that statement sarcastically. I know if I was in that situation, and let's say I'm her friend, and she offered herself to be FwB with someone else when that's clearly not in her interest because she's still pining away for something more substantial than that, I'd be telling her to get the heck out of that relationship as quickly as possible, because it's only going to bring more pain. In any case, RPG gave no indication in his post that she'd even be willing to go for FwB in the first place, so we're arguing a false point in a purely hypothetical scenario here. - How did you hear about Runescape?
