Yeah... the smithing update really flipped the whole skill on its head. /sarcasm Most of these updates didn't actually change much, they just gave new ways to train. That's not improving a skill, that's improving the leveling of the skill. That's not what I want. I want smithing (my favorite skill, if you couldn't guess), to be what it used to be. It used to be the space-race of RS; it used to be the most amazingly involved and competitive skill around. Now? Now it's a skill you train to get a respected cape and the ability to make some armor if you ever want to downgrade to F2P. Beyond that? Not really that much (read: not much that is very influential on the game. Take away most elements of smithing minus the cannonballs, and, as a member, you wouldn't be hurt that much). Please prove me wrong. I'd love to be wrong in this case, I really would be. At least FM bonfires help boost other stats and helps a good deal with being social and other skills.

That's what I'm thinking. But on the other hand, they have to know they have a huge pure community... they wouldn't want to throw that away so easily. It'll be interesting to see how they change the formula.

Anybody else really interested in how they're going to change pures and their combat levels? I have a defense pure, and this could really mess me up.

Lets see, hundreds of skills to learn, thousands of weapon/armour customizations with said skills, on top of 10+ classes? Runescape: 1 Class. Weapons/Armour are easily obvious in what to use, skills are bluntly strait-forward and the game map doesn't spand for miles like WoW's possibly does. Somehow, I "think" Runescape is far more simpler then WoW and less confusing. (I also think you're the same person who spouted "lol, might as well quit and play WoW now" in updates a few weeks back like it was the god-tier game of everything) OT: My hopes is they re-work defence properly and NOT make it a smouldering annoyance to what it already is. Hundreds of skills? Please, list them all. I would love to see this. There are only 15 skills, and all of them are no more than "collect the resources, and click go." Certainly nothing like RS. Also, the "thousands of weapon/armour customizations?" Yes, there are, but not at any given level. Why would you ever put +5 Intellect on a 2h sword for a Warrior? You are going off of the basis that everything counts at once, and it doesn't. Yes, there are a lot of different choices to make, but that's part of the draw. Why be bottlenecked into one armor, one weapon, one way of doing things? RS has more of that than WoW, and I can't stand it. If you're f2p, you wear rune. Nothing else. Just rune. Go to a clan war and see how many unique people there are. I'm going to guess: full rune armor, rune scimitar, and either leather boots or the Stronghold of Security boots. The only unique thing are those that are super-rich and can afford to lose god armor, or those that choose to go with a random cape if their clan doesn't require them to wear a certain color. So much fun watching characters in rune run around. Yey! Not boring at all. Next, onto your complaining that WoW is too big... how is this a bad thing? You get to run across a WORLD! Not a continent, but a WHOLE WORLD! Teleports ruin things, and so do the major cities. Runescape doesn't have nearly the crowding factor as WoW does because you have to go to different places to skill effectively. With WoW, you can buy most of the stuff needed, or if you're gathering, you have to keep moving. It's not like you can sit at a grouping of trees in, say, Un'goro Crater to level up woodcutting. That's my biggest fault with WoW: the skilling sucks. If you don't want to raid or pvp, there's almost nothing for you to do at max level besides merchant. If you don't want to do that, you're screwed, which is why I quit. I don't have time to raid, and I hate merching, and I'm horribly anti-pvp. I have no real place in WoW. Now, I love the combat system, I just hate doing it all the time. I want to build things, but building in WoW means clicking a single button and waiting. Worse than RS. TL;DR: If you want to hate WoW, do it for the right reasons. Stating false claims isn't the way to go about doing it. Give good reasons, not fake ones. WoW and RS both have their negative aspects, for sure; every game does. Please, think before you try to tear something down. If you do it intelligently, nobody can fault you for it. As sad as it is, this has actually happened before. Way back when, I created a web tool that allowed people to play RS in a frame, and it allowed for quick world switching. I was banned for it. Not a few months later, they allowed it because Swift Kit was doing it, and it was popular. Then they released the World Change screen on the lobby. My character still isn't unbanned. Thankfully they banned the wrong character of mine, and banned the one that the tool was named after, and not my original character, but still. Point stands that they won't unban people they banned for things that were illegal at the time but have since become legal. They don't do retroactive stuff in that regard.

Just because they made you able to enter without the quest does not mean they have removed the quest as a requirement on things like desert treasure. Pretty sure it does, as it was only the fact you couldnt get into the place for the last diamond that was stopping you completing the quest. I would beg to differ. You still need Priest in Peril. It isn't just about getting to the last diamond. It is a requirement in-game, let alone on all the websites.

I just want to add a few things to this topic, but I feel that people will judge me before they read what I say. So know this: I do not bot, I have never botted, and I don't like bots either. That said, I do frequently read many cheating websites so that I can get a feel for the underworld culture of Runescape and why they do what they do, where they're training, how they're training, and other things. Here's what I've learned: People that bot are generally running between 1-3 bots at a time, with some running upwards of 5 or 6. While this whole mass ban at SW has been a major hit to the morale of the botting community, they are now back at it with the supposed "news" that the images posted on the PMod forums were fake. Popular bots include Thieving, Sorc Garden, Hunting, Fishing, Mining, Essence Mining, of course, Soul Wars. There are only a few main bots: kMiner is the current most popular mining bot, AutoFighter (including all NX products), RSBots, OEMBots, Perfect, and Power-bot. These few bots are the most widely used, and aren't that good. To be fair, Jagex has some faults, such as allowing appeals for randomly generated replies. The botters include a few keywords in whatever order they want, add some flavor text, and they get unbanned automatically. One botting site is coming out with a Quest bot. It's in beta now, but it will be able to complete all F2P quests automatically. It will even be buying stuff from the GE if you need it to. This is scary on many levels. Gold selling and junk trading are bigger issues than botting, believe me. If you hate botting, don't go to LRC, either. There are tons there, including high level mains. I would link to several sites, but I feel that the mods wouldn't like that. As it is, I'm worried of being yelled at because I posted the names of common bots, but I feel that if I don't out them to the public that didn't already know of them, Jagex will be more likely to see it and stop it. Think of botters as cockroaches: turn on the lights, and they scatter. This is information for people to use so that they can fight autoers and so they can report them more easily. You will see common patterns amongst the bots, like pausing at doors, or if you close a door just before the bot gets to it they will stop for a while. We need greater protections against these, and Jagex needs to make the fight more public. Botters aren't afraid, and that's a major disadvantage for Jagex. If people are afraid, like they were with the mass bans at Soul Wars, botting will decline greatly. There were people that said "Jagex does it manually and they do it once every couple of months, so basically if you bot between those periods, you're fine." That's not good for anybody. Stay vigilant, and report bots. Just one person reporting a bot can get the bot banned for life.

Hello everyone, I'm Lt Wolfe. I've been playing RuneScape on various characters ever since June of 2003. When I was playing the game, partyhats were in the single digit millions, santa hats were just 200,000gp, and masks were under half a million gold coins. No one had hit the max overall yet, and the overwhelming majority of players were below level 90 combat, if not below 80 combat. Needless to say, times were different. Everybody knows about the nostalgia of yesteryear, but I'm not here to talk about that. I'm here to talk about what we came to RuneScape for, and what we are now doing. I don't know about all of you, but when I came to RuneScape I was looking for a game that would give me something to do every single time I logged in. I wanted something immersive, something I could really get into. I wanted something that would be exciting and new, challenging and bold. I met great people, and never was very good at all of the skills, but I liked training them because it was what I liked to do. It was different, as all games are when they first start out. What did you expect from the game those first few weeks? As well, it was more about the adventure of it all, and the excitement. I didn't know everything, and I was glad that I didn't. I wanted to explore it all myself. I wanted to do everything I could and still know that I had only explored half of the world. Now, that feeling is gone. Regardless of the community, that feeling of freshness is gone. Now, it seems that the game is about money and exploiting things in order to get ahead. To succeed, you need to level. To level, you need to make money. I understand, it could all be avoided by doing everything by myself and avoiding trade, but even back when rares were only 200,000, it seemed like it wasn't all that terrible. Have we met that evolutionary split in the road that all games must face? When did it become about money more than anything else? How can we get that "new car smell" back into the game? What can we do to not only stop the experience from becoming boring, but what can we do to bring back that feeling we first had when we logged in? So here's the real discussion: what did you expect of the game when you first started out? What did you want, what did you think, what was fun for you? Now compare that to today. What are you doing on a normal day today? What feelings do you have for the game now, and what feelings do you have when logging in? How does that compare to when you were first starting your adventures in RuneScape?

So what does the cape do? On a side note: why do you guys keep posting with spoiler tags? Who would come into this topic expecting things to not be revealed?
-
How is it not a pure? The very definition of the word "pure" is that it contains nothing. As related to Runescape it means that it contains nothing else other than the one area the pure is named after (e.g. 'Mage pure' has very high Magic, and a 'Defense pure' has very high Defense). I think you're just upset because you're not special.

Trust me when I tell you this: you aren't missing much. Though I would suggest moving somewhere else, that's just because Southern California is the armpit of America. But from up here in New York, snow sucks, the cold sucks, and we have to live with it.

The highest level requirement for the Diary is what, 65 Magic? Followed by 55 Fishing and 55 Hunter. Not bad at all.

The RS homepage won't even show me the updates from the 11th. How did you post this so quickly? And it looks like a great quest, can't wait to see the rewards.
-
Can you show us where you're getting that from? Otherwise it's not credible. Please cite your sources.
-
1. It's "their". 2. It's "merchanted". Marketing is a very noble profession in which one tries to make others aware of products and services in order to better allow open trade and competition. Do not get marketing confused with merchanting. Those of us in the marketing profession are offended by your ignorance.

Since when has content ever been mandatory? It's stuff for people to do. I can't do a lot of things yet, but I'm glad they're there. If I could do them all, this game would seem too easy. Oh, and someone can be ranked in the top 1,000 people in the game and not be able to do this content, so don't think your "top 2%" means anything. It doesn't correlate. If you don't have the stats, just don't do the elite content yet. Nobody said you had the right to do everything in the game, or else we wouldn't have levels at all. It would be a FPS, and nobody wants another Counter Strike.

Does the Halberd have a defensive option on it?
Lt_Wolfe replied to Lt_Wolfe's topic in Help and Advice
Touche, thank you very much, didn't see that. Thank you all very much. Topic closed. -
I am just wondering, for research purposes, does any typical halberd (aka bronze-rune) have a defensive option? I mean defensive as in it only trains defense and hitpoints, not attack or strength. Thank you for the response ahead of time.

What, no wisecracks about how it's impossible to fight and win battles while French?

I find it humorous and ironic that it is in the spot of September, the month that schools reopen.

I will say this once, and once only: any game where you can find this... [hide=][/hide] Is fine by me. Also some more cool pictures: [hide=] "Here's a random cluster of Blizzard employees. There were a bunch of people from the DVD department flitting around where we were partying, I couldn't get pictures of them all. But they were real, live Blizzard employees!"[/hide] EDIT: Oh and yes, I do play WoW. 72 Human Paladin atm. Leveling is slow for me, but a lot of fun in Northrend. I plan on becoming my guild's main tank, which is more fun than RuneScape could ever be. Not because it's a stupid game, but because it's quicker, more action, more controllable by me. I don't click places, I run places.

Runescape is dying. Topic is back after a few months -LooK-
Lt_Wolfe replied to Rarex's topic in General Discussion
"Topic is back after a few months" No really guys, it's really dying this time! Believe me!
