Future Update Discussions
How effective would a money sink skill be in the current environment, though? I'm not sure how well such a skill can be balanced with the level of wealth disparity we have today: it seems like you'd have to choose between making it noticeably decrease the amount of money that a "1%" player can have, or make it accessible to the average player.

Sally's Insane Goals and Random RS Blog -350/369 Clue Scroll Items - Item Update!? SHE LIVES?!
...Almost three years on the EP and I never filled out one of those bios. :wall: Would it be right to poke one of the admins about it? I think that's more their territory.

Post all RS Screenshots, Videos, and Sounds here!
Not only does Bandos warpriest look better, but you guys get a literal meatshield. I'm so done with these birds.

Similarly, adding a string to a longbow staff makes a giant metal shield grow from the front.

I'm suggesting something similar to what they did with Balmung: the upgrade turns it into an okay weapon except in certain situations where it becomes a great weapon. ...I'm going to leave efficiency arguments out of this, because (as you might already know) I have such huge problems with the way people use that approach (In every game, not just Scape) that I'd almost certainly get a warning out of it.

I'm not entirely sure I agree with this... what's so bad about it? Making items that come from ports be able to upgrade other weapons etc sounds like a good idea to me. With it coming from ports it means there's nothing really new added into the game as like a drop, and its untradeable so you can only DIY... It's not that much of a "grind" really as all you do is send ships out and then wait for them to come back... plus you could add all sorts of nuances to customize each player's weapons to whatever they like... How would this be bad? It's bad when it involves (tradeable) items that should be useful at lower levels, because they essentially stop being low-level items. Like Dragon -> Ascension crossbows: being used as a component is going to keep them out of the price range of everyone with 60 ranged, they may as well not exist for that tier. So suggesting it was a misstep on my part. While I'm a fan of ensuring that you don't just throw away your old gear when you've outgrown it, the way Runescape's market works makes it more than a bit unfeasible... Would it work better with unique quest items like the Gadderhammer or Shadow Sword?

I think your run got more views than the Vietnamese Crystal posts I made around the same time. And I feel the same way about every post in my own run :-P If random doesn't work, you could try V3 of that hack, or its Emerald counterpart. Changes up the gyms (They all have teams of 6 and don't stick to their type), starters (FR has Mankey/Spoink/Poochyena, Emerald's are Cacnea/Phanpy/Grimer), and wild encounters. That said, random would give you tons of snark bait.

I dunno, ports could have had some cool stuff for the entire level spectrum. 90 works for the stuff they have now, it's just annoying that those are the only rewards Hell, port resources and trade goods to upgrade gear. Use ancient bones, plate, and lacquer to improve Fremmenik armor, chi to upgrade elemental staves, spices to make other fish stew... Could have had something that people could use throughout their entire careers and resurrect some other dead or dying content on the side.

Because high level-only content is a bad thing, right? You mean they haven't made enough updates accessible to everyone yet? That depends. Updates? Yes, we have those. Meaningful updates that actually improve the game experience? No, not at all. It's actually getting kind of catch-22-ish, in that a lot of skill features that would help out earlier in the game come too late to be of use to anyone, like rewarding players with the ability to use T60 weapons for a grandmaster quest, or requiring 80 farming to grow a low-level potion second. Honestly, I get the feeling that they're just slapping these requirements on for the sake of saying there's high level content, and nobody wants that.

Would be even cooler if it could overheal.

The 'You're Banned' Game (over 38,000 banned!)
Banned because that's an invitation to take it out of context.

RuneScape 2014 - Power to the Players
I think when you resort to humor in order to justify your position, it means that it's time to make some changes. I guess I'm the only one who's more than a little bothered by the fact that "buy a bigger/second monitor" is considered a reasonable response to that kind of complaint?

Things that annoy the HELL out of you.
If I could travel across the country, I wouldn't mind helping him disposing of the evidence. I have the exact same relationship with my brother, Alg, so I know where you're coming from. However, my feelings toward him are... slightly different, to say the least. Is there anything you can do about getting yourself distanced from him? He has now reached the point where he both knows that we've hit the bandwidth cap and still tries to play GTA 5 online... Then complains about the lag to his friends. In addition to watching Youtube videos and causing the rest of us to struggle to do anything and such. It wouldn't be so bad if I didn't suspect that he was most of the reason we're past the cap to begin with. I actually envy your ability to subtly troll your brother. Mine has too much of a temper for that. Not much I can do until he leaves in another two weeks. I think at this point, if he uses "#YOLO" unironically I'm legally required to kill him. It's probably in the constitution or something, I don't know. Not like anyone's ever read that thing. :twss:

Yeah its not like f2p gets absolutley nothing they tend to get 2 or 3 updates a year that are actual new content, plus all the graphics and reworks and events that filter through to f2p as well. Heck half their stuff has had more updates and reworks and reskins to it than 90% of the members world has ever seen combined. So what if 1 month has nothing for them? They already have a massive demo to play plus the ongoing world event content. The question then is why I would choose to play a glorified demo of a game that hasn't really changed since 2005, when I could be playing something like League of Legends. I mean, F2P is a ghost town right now. Those "pure f2p 4 lyfe" guys you're complaining about were the community that new players got to see first (Community! That thing that sets MMORPGs apart from the regular kind). If they're gone, what other hooks are there? Hell, the mole would have been perfect for F2P simply because it's designed as an entry level boss. That's how you get players to want more.

What Game(s) Did You Last Get and What Are You Playing?
I bought the first and couldn't get into it at all. Is the second that much of an improvement?

Indeed it is rather shocking how they can't find much dev time at all for updates for people who don't pay their server upkeep, utility or staff costs...it's almost as if they are trying to please the people who earn them profit and afford them continued employment. Because not making sure new players have a good first impression of the game is great for the game's longterm health, am I right? This argument was okay in 2006 when every multiplayer game required a subscription except for Runescape. It isn't now, when subscription MMOs are dying (If not already dead) and the industry standard is freemium.

What Game(s) Did You Last Get and What Are You Playing?
I'm actually thinking that hitting my bandwidth cap this month was a good thing, if only because it ensures that I will still have money once the sales end. Plus, forces me to dig into my backlog. Mirror's Edge is all kinds of fun, while XCOM is, well... While my tactics were sound, my management skills could use a tiny bit of work.

RuneScape 2014 - Power to the Players
My main gripe with it is that the divide essentially locks new players out of the lore. Yes, they'll get the little flashback thing, but they won't understand why it's important that these quests take place in the past and these other ones don't, and unlike every other nonlinear piece of media, they can't go back and replay it once they start to get a sense for how everything fits together.

RuneScape 2014 - Power to the Players
It's strange how something as simple as a time skip makes their options regarding the lore so needlessly complex.
