There is TONS of research done in engineering, I definitely would not exclude it as a possible career/major choice based on that criteria. Go check out the kinds of things that professors at your potential schools do research on. Even though engineering itself is a lot different than science, most engineering research is pretty similar to research done in science fields because in the end you're going back and investigating some sort of physical phenomenon/trying to create something new - although there is a bigger focus on researching topics where the results will be useful, eventually, in some practical way.

Might as well keep the engineering streak going. I'm going into my 4th/final year of mechanical engineering at a top Canadian school. This summer I managed to get an undergraduate student research award, so I'm given some money and get to work full time on a research project under the supervision of a professor. When I graduate next year I will probably go on and do a masters degree (tuition is payed for, and I get a stipend of ~$20000-30000 per year for living expenses and as payment for being a TA). It would be a 2 year program, and ideally I'd be able to make a little bit more when I start actually working in the field. I'm definitely interested in research, but to be entirely honest I don't think I'm ready to go out and start working quite yet - although job prospects and starting salaries are good if I do. I know everyone has said that university is a waste if you're not planning on working in an area where a degree is required, and I don't really disagree, BUT I know that there is no way I would have been ready to start working out of high school. 4 years to mature/learn stuff/have fun isn't the worst decision you can make as long as it won't put you way in debt.
  3. Haha pretty much. I just find in general that when I talk to girls that I'm not interested in (either because I already have a girlfriend or because I'm not attracted to her) that I have girls falling all over me... but when I consider approaching because I'm interested in dating, I'm either too awkward or I just don't approach at all. But really my issue is that I don't meet people. Seriously, now that I think of it, I literally haven't met or even talked to a new female once this summer. So yeah maybe I should get out more.
  4. I can't believe my old post is relevant again.
  5. LOL I got matched up vs 2 pro players (Theoddone and Xpecial from TSM) in a normal game somehow. I laned vs Xpecial in mid... I got slaughtered. Got ganked by Theoddone to give up first blood, and it didn't get much better after that. I did manage to get a 1v1 kill in lane when he got overconfident... but that was my only kill of the game. So yeah, it's almost like they do this for a living or something, whereas I hardly even play ranked. Was a pretty fun experience though.
  6. People have different opinions about stuff? On the internet? Anyway, I watched bits and pieces of the ceremonies online while I did other stuff. Some of it was cool, other parts were meh. It's not something that really bothers me either way. I love watching sports in general though, so I spent most of the weekend flipping between CTV, TSN, OLN, NBC, and Sportsnet to watch whatever caught my interest. Slightly disappointing results for us (Canada), but at least we got 1 medal. The downside is that the next few hours were full of endless recaps and interviews with the (bronze medal) winners... gets annoying pretty fast. Looking forward to when athletics start.
  7. So does the dart kill one of Nex's forms? Or will one dart kill her entirely?
  8. It's really not very grindy. You can play the game fine with free week champs, and there are tons of cheaper champions that are just as good. If you find a champ that you really like during a free week, buy it with real monies. The point of the game is definitely not to farm IP, and you honestly hardly need IP at all until you can buy tier 3 runes at level 20/21. I've currently got like 25k IP, most of the champions, and pretty much all of the runes I need.
  9. Come on, there's really no such thing as a scary game or movie if it doesn't include a jump scare. The only reason a suspenseful atmosphere is even scary is because you're scared that something is going to pop out at you. It should really only take 30 seconds to find your first page, you must have a pretty short attention span. And if you didn't even have an encounter with the Slender Man you didn't even experience the game!
  10. From a fansite: "Slender is a first person horror game created by Parsec Productions where your only goal is to find 8 manuscripts about the Slender Man, a paranormal creature. The more directly you come in contact with the Slender Man, the faster your sanity drains." Basically, you run around a dark forest armed only with a flashlight and try to collect the pages while not being taken by the Slender Man. It only takes a few minutes to play each time and it's really difficult to beat. You will feel like you're being watched the whole time... because you are. This game is very, very good at making you jump. Don't turn around. Has anyone played this before? My record is 6/8 pages and I think you'd need to memorize the whole map if you want to make it to 8. http://www.slenderga...om/download.php There are some download links here, but I haven't tried them out (remember this is just a fansite, so you might want to scan them). Look for a torrent or something if download links aren't working, there have been a lot of people downloading it recently. EDIT: These download links should work: Windows - https://docs.google.com/file/d/0Byttiw8h1WwYUnp4R0FONU0zcE0/edit# Mac - https://docs.google.com/file/d/0Byttiw8h1WwYUEVHbTFKNzVSWGs/edit#
  11. Well the fact that she has cheated already makes the answer incredibly obvious. I wouldn't even give a girl who cheated on me a 2nd glance. But, pretending for a moment that she's alays been faithful, I still don't think what she's doing is okay. Simply because you know that the guy she's hanging out likes her. He IS going to try to win her over, he's going to try to [bleep] up your relationship and make himself look better than you... he's even going to use the fact that you're feeling jealous of him as a tool to do it. I'm not saying you should control who she hangs out with, but in this case I think it's inappropriate of her to do it.
  12. I think the Eve rework is not as good as they made it sound. She can clear fine (and she could before too), and her ganks are okay. The biggest advantage is definitely that she won't be seen by regular wards when approaching. The range on her stealth only gives her a small advantage when approaching her target. However she lacks CC, so she can't effectively gank a lane where the target has flash up or has an escape skill. That said, her ganking is still her strong point. Where she's lacking is being useful after laning phase. She doesn't do much in a team fight before getting blown up.
  13. One thing that I stick by, and offer as advice for anybody who wants help is 'Everything is situational'. Just because your kickass build worked last game, this game might be different. etc etc. Enemy team has AP champions top, mid and jungle (all with a lot of kills), and their AD (who is Urgot and therefore doesn't really benefit from attack speed) is doing poorly? Better buy frozen heart because it's the "best" item!
  14. Don't really care about the new store thing. Likely won't buy anything, and it's cosmetic for now so who cares. Squeal is worse, but hasn't proven to be the end of the world yet. Not a huge fan of the look/emote of the 10 year cape, but still excited to get it in ~10 months.
  15. That item tier list really isn't in a form where it can be useful. Totally depends on who you're playing, what the other team is doing, etc.
  16. Trust me, LoL's community is just as bad as every other game of this type. You won't see it in bot games, but in pvp (especially ranked), it can be pretty bad. There also 100 champs, so I don't see how none can appeal to you. I've heard that it feels slow paced to some people, but there is actually a ton of stuff you need to be doing/thinking about to play well that isn't immediately obvious. As for the next patch, I'm really excited for Zara. She looks like the type of champ I'd be good with. Also very happy for the Malzahar QOL buffs because he was my first "main" and still one of my best champs. As far as Xin/Eve/Twitch go, I've only ever played Twitch, but I think the reworks look good and they'll probably end up being really strong.
  17. I wouldn't skip/block dark beasts, they're really fast with a cannon. Fire giants are about 40k exp/hour with a steel titan, so really not bad. Then again I haven't slayed for quite a while, so maybe exp/hour standards are higher... I just know that I never had enough points to keep up with all of the tasks that needed to be skipped.
  18. Haha well I already said that in the BTS thread that I have no interest in fighting over kills on slayer tasks, even if it's with a friend, just so we can finish tasks faster (and spend more time banking and getting new tasks). Anyway, what are the rewards for the Gielinor Games Preparation like?
  19. I haven't played him yet, but seen a few weird things happen. Most cc interactions are a little bit glitchy depending on what order they're landed in. Same champ matchups are even more glitchy because you have the same abilities and it's not really clear what happens if you use the same skill at the same time the enemy does. And even with his nerfs to early game damage in this patch, jungle Nautilus is still a monster. You really can't run away from someone with 4 different forms of cc (hook, snare, slow, knockup). Won every game I played with him last night (4 games).
  20. Ashe is the "weakest" late game carry because she doesn't have any auto attack steroids. Her ult is amazing, but needs a coordinated team to follow through. I think Sivir is underrated in general, but they kind of do different things. Sivir can put out some pretty insane aoe damage in a team fight if she lands her boomerang and bouncing blades on a lot of people, and her ult is awesome. As for AD carries in general, it may seem easier to rely on champs with range attacks, but as you get to higher levels you'll see that it's one of the toughest positions to play because you need to really know how to position yourself and kite. Personally, I can play all positions, but prefer playing AP/mid champs - particularly high skillcap champs like Kat/Anivia/Orianna

I still don't get it. Why do people always need to get drunk to have fun? You don't need to get drunk to have fun. But getting drunk often makes things more fun than they would be otherwise.
  22. 1 person per slay spot is enough for me - can't picture myself ever wanting to duo for slower experience. 10 year cape should be cool, can get mine in almost exactly 1 year.
  23. Yep. It's out.
  24. I like a lot of the changes, but I still don't feel they properly addressed the issue of button mashing. Firsty, they referred only to pvp. Secondly, even if you are hitting the buttons in a specific order, it is still button mashing if you need to hit a button every 1.2 seconds to have full effectiveness in combat.
  25. I keep wanting to go to one of these, but they get put at times when I can never go :-P Sounds like fun though
