Agreed. As much as I don't like what the author was saying, I agree with the general. Just atheists need to learn the same thing. Don't call us crazy for believing what we do, or try to convince us that the Bible is horribly wrong because science says so. We won't believe you, so stop trying. They used the word empath in a different way, in super hero terms empathy is when your power is to take another person's powers. Sylar's empath power at first required him to cut open the head and understand what was going on. Now he can just empathize with someone and gain their power. Yes, I realize this, and I was using the other definition of empathy. I was in no way refering to how Sylar's power is described. I guess I don't know how to better explain what I mean. I'm saying that Sylar's hunger is not a bloodthirst, but a longing to understand. The only way he could do that before was cutting people open, but then he learned how to do it by relating to another person, and that satisfied the hunger. Now, however, he is to distracted by his own conflicting feelings regarding what to believe about his parents to relate to others, and hence he must feed the hunger in the old way.

Before Elle that was the only way he knew how to do it, he couldn't control the hunger (or didn't want to). The hunger definitely exists because Peter got it too when he took Sylar's power. But the hunger was to know, to understand, by any means necessary. Before Elle that meant opening up skulls to see what's going on under the hood. After, the hunger was being satisfied in a different way, through empathy.

I had a nice post typed out with references to definitions of "intercept" and all that, then got a forum error. I'm not typing all that out again. The gist was that I don't think using someone's wireless counts as intercepting it because you are not distrupting the signal and it is, in my opinion, therefore not a federal crime nor should it be. It all depends on interpretation of the law. (I'd make a decent lawyer. :lol: ) (Trust me, just kidding. Please don't smart off to that)

Here's mine: This test puts me much stronger into INFP than the other one I have taken, which put me at, from top to bottom, 59%, 33%, 67%, 39%. Probably cause the mypersonality one was either or and the other had more inbetween options.

You must only read really really extremely good books which have immense plot lines that twine together perfectly if it's the worst you've read. The fiction part is controversal, as it is at least based in history, and you can take it farther if you wish, but regardless, the Bible is an amazing piece of literature whether you agree with what it says or not. The literary expressions used, similies, metaphors, and the way the New Testament intertwines with the Old is amazing.

I'd also think it is lame if Sylar wasn't a Petrelli, that was a good plot and they made a big deal about it (Sylar still thinks he is Peter's brother in the future they are trying to prevent now). Him being a Petrelli would make sense since the other two empaths we know of are both Petrellis (Peter and Dad), and Nathan was nothing before being given his powers. Yah, I completely agree on the idea that Sylar actually is a Petrelli, for those same reasons. I thought there was a bit in one of the previous seasons about Sylar opening up someone's head to see what they are thinking, to "understand" what's going on in there.

You don't have to kill people if you're in the military, dontchaknow. Probably more people inclined to go on a killing spree in prison than the military. Yes (to the not killing people if you're in the military part), but the military by definition is a violent institution. If I were to take on a noncombat role, I would be supporting an institution which destroys lives. Does the place you live in have police? If so, do you pay taxes? If so, you support a violent institution. The military, when employed by a country which values the freedoms of others, by definition is an institution that helps lives. What destroys lives is watching innocent people suffer and doing nothing. This is true for all involved; the suffering for obvious reasons, the people commiting the atrocities (they condemn themselves for when people with a sense of justice find them), and the people watching and doing nothing. In my view, if you don't take action to prevent any act when you are able, you condone it. While some present uses of the military aren't exactly favored (the starting of that Iraq mess, most recently), it is nobody's mistake that the military does good things to try and outbalance it. This is what I support when I say I support the military, because the military will always act when people are suffering, when allowed to. Really, my taxes are not under my control, as they are all automated. I have no choice in the matter. My employer automatically takes them out of my paycheck, everything I pay for the tax is already included in the price. Really, it's my employer paying my taxes, the seller giving my money to the government. As for the rest of your argument, it's not so simple. Who's right is it to decide who's good and who's bad? You can't speak only from a US perspective. Most countries have their own militaries and use them to support their own causes. Everyone has reasons. I'm not saying everyone has the best intentions, but many do, at least in their view. Also, if noone had militaries, a military would not be needed in the first place. If everyone were to lay down their arms, atrocities would not happen. I'm not saying it's ever going to happen, but I'm an idealist, and it's what I do. As it stands, militaries only perpetuate the violence. I will have no part in it.

My story comes from the day after that. Some kid reported seeing someone with a gun wandering the halls. The school went into lockdown immediately, with kids being thrown into whatever classroom was closest. We ended up sitting in the school for 3-4 hours as the evacuation location and parking lot were secured and everyone was evacuated from the building, one classroom at a time. Everyone with any authority at all was there: the highway patrol, city police, swat team, even game, fish, and parks officers. They had snipers on the roof and everything. We were led out of the building by four swat team members, one in the front of the line, one in back, and two flanking the lines. We had to hold onto the shoulders of the person in front of us and walk at a fairly brisk pace as we were walked across the street to the city Civic Center, which was apparently somehow easier to secure. Of course, it all turned out to be a fake. :wall: Later that year, the senior valedictorian and a group of his friends decided to build a smoke bomb and set in off after locker cleanout. It apparently malfunctioned and blew up in a mini explosion, damaging a few lockers. I happened to be in another place in the state at the time, I was kinda disappointed I missed the excitement. Of course, they got caught because of video cameras... :wall:

Okay, so I read the first book this weekend, so I can give a little bit more of an opinion now. The book as a whole was alright. It was easy enough to read, and I liked it enough to read it in only about three days, reading off and on. I have to admit character development was not a strength of this book. You would think, as he's a main character, we'd get a bit more about Edward than that he likes to showoff and is amazingly beautiful. There is that aspect of him being tormented by himself as a monster, but really, there is not much else. So the book was okay, but not the greatest I've read. I really don't know. The book wasn't horrible, and they definitely pass the time. I don't know if they deserve as much popularity as they get, but I'll still read the rest, I'm a sucker for love stories :P .

I'm a pacifist, I'd rather go to jail than serve in the military in any sort of role. I don't care what the fighting is about, the thought of the loss of any human life by another's hand disturbs me.

Right now I'm just glad I've been using my penguin points for herblore exp rather than, say construction. Still have 6 lvls to go, as well as 8 farming lvls... On the brightside, I should be able to get all the herbs I need through getting the farming lvls :D

Thanks for those they were quite intersting, although hardly what id call unbiased. And whilst I was aware of 90% of the stuff in there and my considered opinion is that Islam sucks (as opposed to Christianity which is merely completely unbelievable)... ...without someone willing and able to defend the Islamic point of view there is no debate here... ...and it become increasingly likely that this merely turns into Islamobashing. A purely textual reading of the bible can bring up an awful lot of problematic text, and without someone familiar with its use today as part of their actual lifestyle, the context and meaning will not be known to us. So please, lets not go there. I know they're biased, also, to FlyingJj, while yes, some Muslims are open. Just like how some Christians support Evolution, but the 'true' Muslims follow Shari'a law (which has some disgusting sections) hate Christians. And also, I have spoken to Muslims before. Did they hate Christians? I will not give in to the idea that Muslims (excluding extremists) hate anyone until I have experience showing me they do. I would rather we drop the subject unless a Muslim is present to defend their beliefs, but I still won't stand for negative accusations without first hand / reliable accounts. Oh man, I'm starting to sound like an atheist... (no offense)

Very true. I really stopped focusing on academics my senior year and really just enjoyed myself. I still did well in all my classes, though I did get a B in AP English because I practically flunked my final project. I just wasn't motivated. Hmmm...I wonder why :?: :lol: Now in College, I worry less about academics than everyone around me. Everyone is already worried about getting into a good grad school and its only freshman year. I thought this was supposed to be one of the more laid back top schools in the nation. Though I plan on going to grad school, I guess I just tell myself if I don't get into the best, it's really only a name. After all, the academics were supposed to be challenging here, but I just find I have more free time than ever. I guess I have room to talk though, I got As on all my midterms. I do think I got a little lucky and got into relatively easy classes, but definitely not by choice. Next semester I'm looking for a challenge.
