Is God real post your thoughts!
Seriously, was that necessary? because i cant/dont see how it was. :| No, it was probably not necessary, but really I now side with the people who say that everything that can be said in this topic has been said, and I am sick of seeing it revived about once every week or two only to see people say something that has already been said, get flamed for saying it, possibly come up with something new to say, and then get flamed for saying it. Then the topic dies, and someone feels the need to say that "yep, I believe in God for such and such a reason," starting the whole process over again. "Yes, I believe in God. Here's why." "This is why your why is wrong." "Here's why your why my why is wrong is wrong." "That's an invalid source." "I don't care." Repeat about 500 times and you get this topic. There, better? [/rant] Sorry for that, I've had a bad day. I do actually believe in God, and try not to be such a cynic most days. Carry on.

Why can't this topic just burn in the fiery place of your choice(hell, through Agni, an incinerator, etc)?

10-Feb-2009 Soul Wars Minigame
I had a dream about this minigame last night, or something very similar, except everyone was real rather than playing through their avatar, and no one had any weapons. Everyone glowed with a green or red aura to indicate which team they were on. And there were two by two foot tiles which lit up corresponding to your team colors when you stood on them for a certain period of time. Strange...

Possible Cure for HIV Discovered
Of course you can help to prevent it, but that does not mean it won't ever happen. And there is a difference between following someone into a dark alley, and say, someone slipping a date rape drug into your drink at a party. Rape is NEVER the victim's fault. That's like the number one rule of sexual assualt awareness. I would have stopped the debate, but this is too important for it to go unsaid. Think of it as my closing argument.

Valentines Day (Singles Awareness Day) Will Soon Be Upon Us.
I think my female friend is actually hosting a horror movie fest because she's so anti-valentines day. I'm invited, so it should be fun, considering I have no girlfriend to spend it with. (Though this particular female friend I would love to have as a girlfriend. I'm waiting for a moment which coincides with the right moment and a time I have the courage to do it to ask her out.)

Possible Cure for HIV Discovered
In the parking lot then, as you are loading your grocieries, someone climbs out from under your car, puts a gun to your head and instructs you to drive to a pre arranged location, or more brutally, simply strips you down in the back of the vehicle. If the shop is active, then there are way too many vehicles around for anyone to notice. Besides, most rapes are carried out by someone the victim knows, and often trusts. This is not the place to debate about rape, but you sir need to be educated.

Possible Cure for HIV Discovered
May I mention the four letter word that begins with r and ends with the name of one of our simian friends? Rape? If your smart it wont happen to you. I reject your reality, and replace it with my own. But seriously, intelligence is not protection against rape. Rape can happen under any circumstances, to anybody. Rape can and does happen in marriages, at parties, often when you least expect it to happen. You act like it would be the victim's fault for being raped because they weren't smart enough to avoid it. That's just stupid. Anyway, actually on topic, my immediate thoughts were that causing mutations is a bad thing because if it so happens even one of those random mutations happened in the right combinations, then yes, we could have a super virus on our hands. We also have to remember that even though the probability of such a combination of mutations occuring is extraordinarily low, millions, perhaps billions, of these mutations would be taking place in every patient the "antidote" would be applied to.

Does Religion benefit?
How many freaking times do Barihawk, myself, and others have to say that most, if not all, wars are NOT, repeat NOT, caused by religion. I've never studied the crusades in depth, but from my understanding they were a series of land wars. The only reason they are associated with religion is because (in most cases) the pope was like "Hey, go support the Empire in their because I think their cause is just. Free pass to Heaven if you die while at it!" I don't know about you, but in my book that's motivating the soldiers, not what caused the war. Unfortunately, I can't agree with this statement either. Sure, religion lays down the law(morals) for some people, but for the most part you don't see nonreligious people running around killing everyone, do you? I believe that morals are more of an inherent nature of humans than having a religious context. For the most part at least. As another example, you mentioned the commandments. That statement can only be applied to the western world. What about the Eastern Lands? Were they complete and utter barbarians with no sense of right or wrong? The Americas? I think not. After eliminating the default arguments for both sides, I personally lean toward the idea that religion does, indeed, benefit. I personally have gained much from my spirituality. I practice prayer, which helps me to sort my thoughts, calm myself down, and grant myself comfort in hard times. There are other examples.

Does Religion benefit?
I said it before, and I'll say it again. Religion does NOT cause wars. Justification, yes, possible contributor, maybe. But never underlying cause.
-
Does Religion benefit?
In regards to religion being a bad thing, I think a distinction needs to be made between a justification and a reason. Religion has certainly been used as the justification for violent acts, but it is rarely, if ever, the cause/reason for it.

Basketball coach wins 100-0 and is fired..
I'm one of those people who don't like giving in, but I can also see the ridiculousness of the situation. I would prefer to keep playing the team at their best, because, as they said, I would feel bad if they started just tossing the ball around. Just keep playing, I mean, you can know that not every shot matters, so maybe I would let up and not concentrate as much on each shot, but it seems ridiculous not to take as many shots as I would normally, unless it was already excessive, like I'm trying as hard as possible to take as many shots as possible.

Meat lovers vs. Vegetarians
Like I said, it's not even really that that's holding me back. I'm not even sure. I just don't want to eat meat. I don't know why.

Meat lovers vs. Vegetarians
I would like you to explain, just because it sounds interesting. Do you mean you don't think you could kill a cow yourself or something? Because it's very, very easy. You could likely be (well, you could attempt to) breaking a cow's neck before it even noticed you. Not couldn't as in physically able to do so, but couldn't as in I could not bring myself to do it. Maybe not even the act of killing it, but more the processing of it, what with all the blood and stuff. Not that I have a severe problem with blood, but, oh I don't know how to say this, maybe the less blood shed the better.

Meat lovers vs. Vegetarians
I've never liked bacon. I actually became a vegetarian(I prefer to say that I no longer eat meat) just this past Saturday. I'm not really sure why I did, which isn't much of a reason at all, but sometime around Christmas, I suddenly felt empathy for animals. It really is quite strange. I don't mind that animals are killed for food, but I just don't think I should eat something that was once alive that I know I couldn't kill myself. (Mind you, I come from a family of hunters and have been hunting myself, and this could lead to a whole other tangent). I'm carrying out a bit of cognitive dissonance at the moment to keep this going somehow. Right now I know I like the taste of meat, but thinking about eating it causes unpleasant emotions, so I don't. It's all very strange... I could also care less what other people do, as long as they don't harm others, so I'm not going to argue for one side or the other.

Is it possible -
Well, I would say no for SiO2 as its a metalloid, and I would guess that most elements would encounter a problem with having the proper oxidation states for the binding reaction to occur, as well as size of atoms being an issue. Iron and copper obviously have the proper oxidation states, and are relatively small atoms. That being said, one of the wikipedia articles you posted stated that there was one type of metal oxygen carrier thing that is hypothesized to use some rare metal.

Is God real post your thoughts!
AUGH. THANK YOU. I've been trying to figure out the right way to say this for AGES. But I could never just, do it. Thank you. Logic, is, quite simply, our only system of thought that works. It's the only thing that can make accurate predictions, it's the only thing that can test the likelihood of a concept or idea. Logic is the principle behind the scientific method, which is entirely responsible for our current high quality of life. Logic is that which allows us to contemplate metaphysics. Logic is important so others can follow your train of thinking. Otherwise, without logic, you have nothing but a collection of random thoughts that cannot be tied together. Some logic is erroneous, or a logical fallacy, but even bad logic is still a cohesive grouping of thoughts that leads to a specific conclusion. Logic allows us to draw on the wisdom of those who came before us and build upon it. Positing that something cannot be defined by logic and reason immediately removes it from discussion. I can just as easily claim whatever I want is true, and when you claim it's illogical and contradictory and unreasonable, I scream "Faith" and it's just as valid as your concept. There's no reason to discuss something not understandable by definition; it's full of hogwash. Can god create a square circle? http://www.triviumpursuit.com/articles/ ... _logic.php *sigh* I know that is what logic is and what its purpose is, I'm saying that that is not all of life. Logic is certainly the way to go if you want to, how do I say this, solve a problem in the most likely way(?). Logic is limited by logic. There is room for no other in a purely logical thinking system. A square circle is a paradox created solely on the basis of human definitions. I think God could create one outside the bounds of logic, which is the whole point I'm trying to make. The way I see it, there are two kinds of people in this world: those who believe in the word impossible and those who don't. I don't.

You logical people think you are so smart, don't you? :P (Just trying to lighten the mood a bit with that statement, in case my internet tone can't be read properly) Frankly, I find discussing God based on classical logical principles to be a little pointless. I've never considered belief in God logical, but that doesn't stop me from believing. Logic is simply one system of thought, and it has its limits.

Oo, oo! I know! A circle begins where its parametric equation defines it to begin. Not to say that you aren't trying to make a joke, but parametric equations don't define a beginning for functions. Okay, so technically they don't define a beginning, but in most cases you assume a t>=0 case. But then I guess you don't have an end. How about polar then, where you have a domain of angles to graph. Your start is given as an angle, as is your end. I really have nothing to say about the current discussion of God, as there is not much that can be said. Neither side has evidence to support "where everything came from."

Oo, oo! I know! A circle begins where its parametric equation defines it to begin. The geographic northpole is north of the magnetic north pole, and nothing is north of the geographic northpole. Dang, you got me on the last one... :P

An epiphany that needs disproving
No way! That's totally it! I've had my own epiphany, but it's nothing I care to share, considering the reception this one's being given. Though the original poster did ask for people to poke holes through his.

Really, it's not. If you want to believe in him, go ahead. But nobody really cares. I only take offense when people start calling believers delusional. It is my belief that everyone is delusional to somebody, but nobody should attack someone for what they believe. And I'm sick of the attacks on Christianity. Yes, it has been used for bad things, but so has science. It's a problem with religious institutions, not religion, so don't make it out to be.
