Yes, you can call it nonsensical, but I don't think you can exactly make the call of whether it was an accident or not. Of course you're going to see this as a cop out, but I really don't think we can accurately depict our designer's rationalizations since they would obviously transcend our own. You wouldn't know what god would do or why unless you were in his shoes. And who knows? Maybe god is not good. Maybe he just wants us to suffer. That is something that's impossible for a human to know, which is why I'm agnostic when it comes to understanding him (but theist when it comes to believing him). That's the problem I have with anti-creationist arguments. It's impossible for us to understand god's intentions even if he did exist.

I'm just saying if perfection is standard when it comes to creationism (which means to skip evolution and go straight to the present [which doesn't make sense anyways because that is ignoring the possibilities of the future] and also means to skip the growth of knowledge) then that would make less sense than having the existence of progress. The self-achievement thing was mainly concerning other situations dealing with progress, not necessarily about evolution specifically. But since you brought up semantics, I decided to play along. Which brings me to my second point: it is a delusion. The fact is, you didn't choose to make that post. The chemicals in your brain and the stimuli that they were exposed to were what caused you to do it. Just a simple understanding of biology suggests that. So why do we feel self-satisfaction when we come up with a piece of music or poetry which wouldn't exist if it weren't for us being inspired and having the brain chemistry to do so? Because it makes us feel good. I don't particularly think so. I guess you can call me agnostic when it comes to this - I was saying you can't make assumptions and try to rationalize things on the level of a being that is higher than you. It's the same as assuming there is a purpose to them. It's a leap of faith.

This is probably my favorite game, more specifically Ocarina of Time. I can't play it anymore though. I know the whole game inside and out from playing it excessively. I wish I somehow could forget everything I know about it that way I could start over fresh and it would be new to me again. I stopped playing it for 5 years, got back to it, and still remembered how to do everything. I hate good memory. :cry: Have you ever played OoT master quest? Too much of anything is a bad thing. In fact, I think your mom probably has more fun than your dad. She's not as accustomed to being drunk as he is so it probably gives her a nicer feeling.

Oh my goodness. :lol: Where to start... That's exactly my point. I'm not the one arguing that "because something has a negative side effect, we should ban it completely". I'm the one arguing against that line of reasoning. You can't hide from death forever - it's inevitable. There are always going to be things that cause death. The proper way of minimizing them is to ensure the proper usage of these things, not to get rid of them completely. For example, a lot of people have died from car accidents. We didn't make cars illegal though. Instead, we introduced seat belts and now it has lessened the death rate from car accidents. There are ways to minimize deaths without denying people the right to use something for its practical uses. Sports are purely recreational and they cause many injuries and deaths. And they might not be able to buy knives, but they can buy other things that are dangerous if they "fall into the wrong hands", such as scissors, metal cans, baseball bats, etc. etc. You always need to rely on the civility of people. They can do something bad with their bare hands without even being intoxicated. And alcohol doesn't always cause people to go out and do crazy things. There are many types of stimuli which do the same exact thing - such as violent television and video games. But these things don't always diminish someone's civility. It comes down to the person - not the stimulus. Knives and machinery aren't needed anymore than alcohol. There has been a point in humanity where we didn't have any of those, but yet we still survived and now we're here. You can rip meat with your hands, you can walk instead of using cars, and you can have a good time without alcohol. These inventions just make it easier for us. PS: Somebody said that there was a party where some kid hit his head and nobody called the cops. You know why nobody called the cops? Because they probably didn't want to get in trouble. Authorities coming to party to save boy = authorities finding out teens are drinking alcohol. If it were to be legalized, kids would have no problem with being around responsible adults. But when you make it illegal, you're doing nothing but isolating them and making them have to be on their own because they don't want to get in trouble for it. Underage drinking will always happen and making it illegal is only causing more problems than there already are. Would you rather have kids drink and be too afraid to tell adults when something bad happens, or would you rather have kids drink and not be afraid to tell adults when something bad happens?

Because a knife still has a use while alcohol still does not. Really? Then why do people pay money for something that serves no purpose?

Yes, but with alcohol people tend to have more fun. You can't necessarily speak for everybody. They wouldn't be buying it if it had no purpose like what you are suggesting.

Practical is subjective. We're going to go in circles if you do that. What I mean by practical is that alcohol can cause people to have good and memorable times - a positive effect, much like knives cutting your food has a positive effect. It only turns impractical once they are abused. People wouldn't buy alcohol if they didn't think it had a practical use.

Unless you mean like combat knives or then yeah... Yes, knives have a practical use, but so does drinking. There are tons of people who do drink responsibly. Just because there are some that don't, I don't see that as an argument to make it unavailable to everybody. It's unfair to those that drink responsibly and use their knives for eating.

Probably not. Of course you need exposure to the ideas of others in order to formulate your own ideas. I try to take a bit from everyone's beliefs and use whatever I think makes the most sense and get rid of whatever doesn't. I don't think there's a person in the world with the same religious point of view as me, and I think that's a great thing. If it weren't for theists, atheists, agnostics, etc. I wouldn't believe what I believe today because the collection of their beliefs shaped my beliefs. My beliefs aren't set in stone. Whenever something new which I think is better comes up, I'll gladly accept that idea to replace the older ones.

As someone who believes in a god, I don't think it is proof. It's just a collection of humans' interpretations of god thousands of years ago. I think it's completely possible to have your own interpretation of a designer without having to follow the interpretations that have already been made. Not to mention, Christianity isn't the only religion that believes in a god.

I think negativity is necessary for positivity to exist.

No, you deal with me not dealing with it. Not all 18-year-old's are that stupid. And saying it should be illegal for everyone is probably just making people laugh at you so I don't know why you would say that... :| Unless maybe you were to back it up with that great logic of yours.

Haha, talk about weak arguments. I want to be able to drink legally, is that better for you? It's not considered a "freedom" if you have to hide from the government in order to do it. The drinking age in England is 18.
