  1. I think you just gotta find your niche. Some prefer sports. Some prefer art. If they liked those things better, they have no need to decrease their lifespan by doing drugs because they'd just be losing out on football time. Like I just said on another thread - to each his own. Personally though, I think drug experiences are enlightening.
  2. Here's a question for you guys. Are delusions that you don't act on harmful in any way at all? I don't see why there is so much hubbub about having to have proof for your beliefs. The thing is, there is no proof! Either way you look at it, there really is nothing suggesting that God does exist or that God does not exist. If you ask me, it's nothing but a 50/50. If you think life is better with a God to watch over you, then why not believe it? If you think life is better knowing that mankind is the most powerful group of beings in the universe, then why not believe it? Now, if you are going to act on your belief then that's a different story - but when it comes to just believing I don't see any harm done either way. For instance, not accepting medical help because you think it should be up to "God's will" then that's the wrong move to make. You don't know that he exists so why act on it? Same goes for atheists. Committing sins regularly because you don't think that you will be divinely punished is also a bad move. When it comes to your actions, you should only make choices based on what you do know. Main point: To each his own.
  3. No, it's not the only reason but it's a big one.
  4. The schools have to say that. Can you imagine how many lawsuits there would be if the school condoned fighting bullies back?

We're strict when it comes to some things. Not strict when it comes to others. For example, freedom of speech. Other nations see some of the things we say everyday as inappropriate in terms of social etiquette. I hope you're not saying he is unjustified on the basis of ethnocentrism. Just because other countries are that way it doesn't mean that's the only way things should be done.
  6. Umm... yeah? They'd no longer be a threat to society so I would be satisfied. What is your point though? I was just responding to the argument, "They fear life sentences more than death." I don't want the satisfaction of having them die in the name of justice if that's what you think. I just want them gone. And also, not all of them kill themselves. Just the ones who think that a life in prison is worse than death.
  7. That looks like a Webster definition of the word "teenager" to me. :P What is the point of that? If you just wanted advice without the side effect of Tip.It'ers discussing things about the thread (in Off-Topic) then I don't think this was the right place to come to.

So by your logic, looking away is the solve-all solution to any problem dealing with people getting uncomfortable when they see a certain thing? Then why isn't sex in public legal since people can just look away?
  9. It looks like you were trying to mimic his behavior of "acting like a douche" so you tried to "out-douche" him (hence the "How's that for being a douche?" [And it's appropriate since you used an analogy about trying to outdo someone.]) which still means you're calling him a douche. That's just how I read it though.
  10. How would that make it a better deterrent? If anything, I'd say that makes it a worse one. If they feared life in prison more than death then they could easily remedy that by committing suicide. Why would a life sentence deter you if you could just kill yourself for an easy way out of the punishment?
  11. The effect they left behind isn't gone, but they can no longer do anything else to effect society anymore (murder). I'll admit I should have been more specific about that though. Then why don't they just kill themselves? :-k

How exactly does one make themselves feel uncomfortable?
  15. Well, I finished the Falador Diary and the shield seems pretty useless to me. :notalk: Now I'm trying to complete the Fremennik one but it seems so much harder.

A restaurant is for the purpose of paying customers to dine and enjoy their meal. Is the baby a paying customer?
  17. If they are alive, they will still always have the potential ability to cause more harm (unless they are physically disabled of course but that is more inhumane than death). Death is the only way to ensure that they won't escape or get out of jail. Death is the only way to ensure that they won't be a threat to society any longer. I see them as people who fail to control their emotions so much that they take it to sickening extremes. Sure, whatever triggered them to go off the rail is nothing more than random stimuli. Not everyone goes off the rail though. Not everyone who was abused by their parents grows up to be a serial killer. This suggests that it isn't only nurture that effects their decisions but nature too. If it's in their nature to do something horrendous then why would you want to give them a chance to go off the rail again? Isn't it true that people who get out of jail usually wind back up in there again? --- 'Powerful' as in preventing them from harming society any further you mean? I don't see why they'd favor a death sentence over life sentence anyways. If they are given a life sentence they can still commit suicide if they really did think death is a better option.
  18. I think it's the mentality of it rather than the physical outcomes. I want a drink because it will fix my daily problems VS I want a drink because it will make this party more fun. Yes, binge drinking takes a much worse toll on your body but what about state of mind? If you ask me, drinking to get rid of problems is worse than drinking to have fun - unless you count trying to have fun as a daily stress problem. Is that so? I'd be interested in seeing a link. :)
  19. But that's like saying there is an average for the amount of Farming Xp you can gain in an hour. Sure, it's technically true but it doesn't hold much weight since it's nothing we can really go by. It's there, but it's very very very intangible.
  20. The average smoker has about 14 cigs daily. [1] That's just over 250 packs a year. Mlbfan said they are $6 a pack (20 in a pack). That means the average smoker will spend $1500 on cigarettes per year. Pretty expensive for what they're worth if you ask me.
  21. Are you trying to be as unspecific and vague as possible, so that I'll argue and you'll say, "Try understanding my argument better next time."? Good tactic. Heckle at what you think is my inability to comprehend all you want. Go ahead, but your heckles are coming from someone who sees "killing is bad" as the big picture rather than the fact that letting them live only causes more potential killings. By bringing up the big picture, you're telling me that we should be open to all of the points in the argument - not overlooking the fact that keeping those people around causes more harm than good. Tell me, what is your rationale for keeping these psychos around? That should be the first step in wanting to envisioning the big picture you speak of.

Someone sees where I'm coming from. I never said breastfeeding was bad. Just that indifference to the comfort of others is a bit selfish if you ask me. You can't control what makes you feel uncomfortable. You can control whether you try to cover yourself or not.
  23. I love Slayer because it adds more variety into the game, you get a wide range of different drops, and you get to train more than one skill at a time. I hate Crafting because I can't find a single fun method of training it and it is also costly.
  24. Alright, then what is his argument if it is not about his opposition of personal retribution nor killing to prevent more killing? What am I missing here? I have a feeling that it might be you who doesn't understand my argument. So yeah, you're right. It is ridiculous when people do that. ;) Oh and that "Protip:" meme is quite possibly even more lame than "epic fail".
