Now, are we talking about the early ones or the late ones? Both have a case for degration. Star Wars; rather like a Ford Mustang. Once it was the thing, everyone loved it, everyone owned something about it (or the car, if we're still being metaphorical). But later, into the modern day, with consumer interests changing, the makers have ruined it by making it more commercial, more friendly (Jar-Jar and normal sized engines, anyone?) and thus, have ultimately lost its mistique and somewhat tarnished its reputation. In short, it became slow and chunky.
